I think one of world cup quarter finals are on at 3pm GMT same time as our match with Reading.

If England were to playing then, what would you lot be doing (i will be at the Reading game) watching our game on ifollow or watching a world cup quarter final with country at a stand still.

Both! Loving Cov and England is not mutually exclusive.

Find it so funny people romance about how watching England was so much better in Italia 90... You were younger FFS, your first tournaments will always burn birghtest... And in reality England were dull AF in that tournament:

Eng 1 Ireland 1

Eng 0 Holland 0

Eng 1 Egypt 0

Eng 1 Belgium 0

Eng 3 Cameroon 2

Eng 1 W. Germany 1 (lost on pens)

Eng 1 Italy 2 4th place

Admittedly it's harder to get up for a November WC in a desert but try telling that to my 10yr old who been chewing my ear off about his predictions and has walked me through every permutation on his wall planner.

City by a country mile.
Only interested in England at tournaments, and really get behind them then, but the minute they go out, I'm over it.
One thing that drives me mad though is when England set up so negatively. Annoys me as the manager always seems so reluctant to 'have a go' and tries to play in a manner that the players rarely play at club level.

This.

How England set up pisses me off. We have players used to playing high energy attacking pressing football in the best league in the world. Use it.

Could be wrong but I don’t think England can be playing in that game can they?

I think a winter world cup in Qatar will do to the World cup, what the World club championship did to the FA cup

I have absolutely zero interest at the moment - it may change next week, but usually a week before I know everything about it
Seems like FIFA killed the goose that laid the golden egg

It was an absolute disgrace. Bad enough Qatar winning in the first place, the fact they couldn’t then deliver a summer World Cup by magicking up a load of air conditioned stadia, as promised, shouldve meant it reverted to USA or whoever came second

The dodgy, greedy fuckers at FIFA (and UEFA etc) are killing the game

Ps tough call…England winning the World Cup would be massive for the whole country though. As someone mentioned I’ve seen City winning the FA Cup and play off final, England haven’t won anything in my lifetime. City winning the Prem would maybe be a different story

We have internet, running water and tarmac roads. And the blissful absence of a lot of the shite surrounding England being in a World Cup.

And to counter that we have just about everyone who isn't English wanting anyone but England to win, which is fair enough, and they will constantly go on about the BBC or England fans talking about 1966 when it is them who invariably bring it up. I want England to do well because I live in Scotland.

I worry about this. I'm usually buzzing about a WC, but don't feel it this time.

Can we rename ther these sort of threads the 'Biennial Ultimate Mega Fan Of Cov Awards' (BUMFOCA for short)

Same before every international tournament, people tripping overthemselves to show how hard they bleed sky blue and want England to fail

City promotion to the Premiership or England World Cup win choice of one, which ?
World Cup obviously. Because over two World Cups, that would be 8 chances for the City to go up and I think we would take one of those.

World Cup is obviously only every 4 years.

Have a bit more faith in your football club. 🤪

At least the decision for those in charge of the sky blues trust is a lot easier now they don't have to choose between England and the insects!!

From what I can see England will be the 3pm game on the day we're at Reading if they win their group.

Could be wrong but I’m reading it as:

Group B winners -> Match 4
Group B runners up -> Match 1

QF at 3pm on the 10th -> Winners of matches 7&8

Even if you have no attachment to international football and don’t even watch the games, England winning the WC would mean an almighty piss-up with all your mates, a huge outpouring of national celebration/pride, and quite possibly a day off. Do you honestly think a Carabao Cup first round outdoes that? Even most City ST holders don’t even turn up for them.

A Cov win of any kind gives me more joy than any England win, simple

If England win their group and beat whoever in the last 16 they would play Dec 10th at 7pm

Come 2nd and they play Friday 9th in the Quarters

Now that would be a day, Cov smash Reading in the afternoon then England dominate France in the evening.

Ohhhh, there's a new question conjured up right there isn't there.

Would you take a City win over England dominating France and I am not just talking sport, I mean in all every day walks of life? 👍

Cov matter to me more than England, but will still watch every match I can once the World Cup starts. This World Cup does seem slightly weird having it mid season but I hope England can win, even more so if Maddison & Wilson get to play more than a bit part.

What I like about the World Cup is that money can't guarantee winning like it can in club football, so the competition is a much fairer sporting one. The fact it is still every 4 years also makes it that much more special and important.

What I don't like is the corporate bullshit around the tournament that effectively prices ordinary people out of getting a ticket without being exhorbitantly ripped off. I also hate the jingoism around England and their followers. Only ever been to one England game - the match was really good, but the occasion was spoiled by the 'no surrender' brigade.
