Hamer and Sheaf (1 Viewer)

most people who don’t want Allen want Palmer as he’s a flair player. Allen to say the least exceeds expectation and works ideally with Sheaf o hare and Hamer

Palmer hasn’t the capability to cover the range of ground Allen has. Of course he’s more skilful but needs the ball to feet

ive feuded Allen last season but this season he’s fitted ideally into our formation.
Allen played just as well last year. You just couldn't see it.

Hes not any different this year.

Cool , at the end of the day , the Allen vendetta is extraordinarily boring.. the manager picks him even when they are all fit .. like we said he would .. you ever ask why ? A shit player ? A player that as you say , does nothing with a football
I think we have only had two games when all five have been fit and Allen played one of those and not the other. It's a squad game but Allen would not be first choice if all of Sheaf, Hamer, O'Hare and Palmer were fully fit.

How did a thread with the subject Hamer and Sheaf end up being Allen and Palmer?

Kasey palmer has been here since the start of the season , are we actually going to suggest he's still not fully fit ? In 4 / 5 months .. to say Allen is only starting because all our midfielders arent fit isn't true

Yeah, if Robins was given the funds I’d back him to find those players. Though maybe not in the Jan window, so I do think a Jan sale might scupper us. But generally if we sold Vik for an eight figure sum and gave most of it to Robins I’d back him to fill out the squad. I really don’t think we’ll find another Vik though. So may have to reconfigure the style a bit. A younger Godden with pace (potentially Walker but looking less likely) being fed by O’Hare and Palmer could be interesting. Unless we can find another prolific battering ram.
Hopefully Vik will stay until the end of the season. I would like to see what Tavares can do, but he never gets a look in.

I said it at the start of the season and still believe it that Sheaf will be our player of the season (if Gyok stays then he's going to have to play like Makelele :ROFLMAO: ).

In terms of Allen, if I was going to pick our strongest team on paper, he wouldn't be in it.

Squad & team dynamics are more complicated than that. Robins has a certain method and expectation of what he needs from each player & role. Allens performances have definitely been a factor in this good run we are on.

I've been very impressed by Palmer and he is/will be a very important player for us. it's not a negative on him to say that Allen is deserving his starting place in the team over him.

If you were picking the midfield solely on ability you'd have Sheaf, Hamer, Palmer and O'Hare.

However, O'Hare and Palmer, despite their clear technical ability, as a pair may not offer the same amount of energy and tactical discipline that we need, so one of those two drops out of the starting XI to accommodate Allen and his running.

That's not to say that O'Hare and Palmer don't contribute in that sense - of course they do. O'Hare can run all day and will press. Palmer has shown he's not afraid to get stuck in with a tackle at times either.

MR clearly feels that playing Allen will help fulfil his games plans better than pairing up O'Hare and Palmer, even though they're better players overall.

I agree , Robins likes Allen, I don't see how people can't see that 🤔 the lad was captain a couple weeks ago

I think he's playing because Robins likes him , call me crazy
It’s all about how much a manager trusts the player. He knows Allen will follow instructions and do what’s best for the team. I don’t know why people are struggling to grasp this lol

It's not always about putting out our strongest team on paper, sometimes it's about putting out the best team that counteracts the opposition. The fact we've got options in that regard is really encouraging

Out of interest, when is Palmer going to be fully fit? He's been in the squad (start, sub used or sub unused) in 19 of a possible 20 games in all competitions this season. Thats virtually half a season of games.

I think Palmer is fit. I just don't think he has the natural fitness to play 90 minutes at the pace the team are set up when we play at our best like Allen or O'Hare do. That doesn't mean that he doesn't contribute or won't contribute, but with the increasing use of subs across football, there isn't an absolute neccessity for him to play 90 minutes at the moment. If he can impact games in shorter bursts it can still work for us.
