Wilson 6 - didn't have a great deal to do, made 1 good save
Dabo 5 - switched off for their goal and that ultimately cost us the game
Rose 8 - MOTM very solid today, has stepped up as the most senior defensive player
Doyle 6 - Has looked more shaky in the last couple of weeks
Bidwell 6 - He's a defensive left back not a LWB, not what we need in that position
Sheaf 7 - Him and Hamer generally had a solid grip of the midfield
Hamer 7 - see above
Allen 5 - Dreadful, 2 guilt edge changes, lightweight and out of his depth
Palmer 6 - Had his moments but lacks the energy that we have with O'hare in the pockets, doesn't find space in the same way, missed a sitter
Norton Cuffy 7 - Very solid performance given the little time he's had to settle, 2 balls in that were better than anything Dabo has put into the box all season
Viktor 6 - Some might see this as harsh but hes so frustrating, holds the ball up well, bullies defenders, looks a handful but he's so wasteful in possession and in front of goal, he can create something from nothing but the lad could be on 20 goals already this season if he had more composure

Robins 7 - With very limited resources I thought he got it spot on, wasn't expecting much from the game and we more than held our own. Had nothing to bring off the bench so hands were entirely tied

Do you realise how daft this sou

Not really no, Dabo gets battered on here for a lack of final ball and creativity and Bidwell seems to get off free because it's not his natural skillset, it's stating a fact

We didn't play wing backs today. We played a flat back 4 with Dabo and Bidwell as fullbacks

You can play a flat back 4 and still have your right and left back operate as wing backs... Liverpool played a back 4 today with TAA and Robertson occupying those positions and they still operated as wingbacks

Suggest you do some reading pal

"While wing-backs are commonly used in 3-5-2 or 3-4-3 formations, such as those used by Antonio Conte, they can also be a feature of teams playing with a back four, in a 4-4-2 or 4-3-3 for example."

We aren't Liverpool and we weren't set up that way. We were set up to be defensively sound.

Wilson 7

There is no doubt at all now that he is our best keeper after Moore’s madness this season. Today he made a couple of great saves, distribution was ok, ran out well and wound everyone up. That’s Ben Wilson.

Dabo 6

Better than of late but still some crazy craziness when it came to pass selection. Someone said he was at fault for the goal since it was his man that scored. Only seems to want to throw to Palmer.

Doyle 5

Was ok first half but then made some poor decisions. Developing so understandable but seems to miss Fadz at the back.

Rose 7

Solid display and was immense first half. Can’t remember any errors.

Bidwell 7

Decent performance.

Norton-Cuffy 5

Young. Debut. Birthday etc but doesn’t excuse the fact he had the first touch of a drunk and was lucky to stay on. Didn’t seem to be on wavelength of the team yet. Hopefully will improve.

Hamer 7

Quiet on the face of it but stayed back and covered in front of defenders. Stifled a lot of movement and hit some good balls.

Sheaf 7

Great first 60 mins then faded. Odd Sheaf brain fade but in general ok.

Palmer 6

Should have hit his shot early. Good movement but I wish he closed down a bit quicker.

Allen 4

His positioning and thought process of where to be on the pitch is good. He’s too lightweight and slow for this division. We play 1 up front and as such our attacking midfielders need to be shadow-strikers and be nearing 10 goals a season. Bottom line is he is no good at shooting and basically not good enough. Missed three decent chances - someone in that position needs to get 1 on target absolute minimum

Gyok 7

He’s à brilliant player having to play with the knowledge that the AM’s can’t score. That’s why he goes himself. Looked like he got clipped by their GK when clean through. Should have gone down. Pen and keeper maybe off.

which speaks to my point exactly, we played that way because Bidwell is a left back, he's never been able to play effectively as LWB even when we play a 5 hence me saying he's not the player we really need there if we want to have impactful wing backs which Robins clearly likes

I’m not disputing that a full back can be a wing back in a 4. It’s irrelevant. It’s not how we were set up. Bidwell is the best player in the club to play as a defensive full back. And it’s exactly what we needed away at Burnley when we were playing a 4231/4411.

It's not what we need in 99% of our games where MR clearly wants more contribution from attacking wing backs. Dabo and Bidwell have 2 assists between them all season

Disagree with Robins assessment. He got it spot on for 65-70 then failed to do anything we you could see we were on the ropes. At 65 we dropped 10 yards. Our right hand side was out on their feet. Could have brought Kelly on in the middle pushed Hamer to the right. Put Burroughs on for Dabo and Brooke to keep the energy going.

I don’t doubt he probably wants more when we are in the 352 in terms of width and delivery. But to post it about Bidwell after a game when he did exactly what he needed to do and has probably been our most consistent player this season is a bid strange “pal” people are getting brainwashed watching the likes of City and Liverpool over the last few years thinking it’s easy playing wing backs with the best in the world at it. I’m afraid it doesn’t work like that for 99% of teams. Letting Bidwell and Dabo throw caution to the wind going forward and leaving Doyle and Rose at home against Zaourey, Tella, Benson, Rodriguez is suicide.

Good point about Gus being able to go out right.

Originally a right back wasn’t he?

If we ever get short on RB and Eccles and all the other mids are fit then it might be an experiment- Gus out wide hitting fizzy crosses over.

Yes some of my negativity on him comes from a whole season view rather than just today but to say Bidwell has been one of our most consistent players all season speaks to the exact point I am trying to make. Consistent at what? Consistent at being a bang average defensive left back and offering almost nothing going forwards? Over the past few years we've really benefitted from having attacking left backs - Maatsen, Mccallum etc. People giving him credit for being 'consistent' for me is consistently bang average. Who scored have given him an average of a 6.6 for games in the championship, I've given him a 6 for his performance today, not sure what the argument is.

Have to agree on Allen. So many times a fluid attack breaks down when he gets it and is tackled easily. Any pass he makes that connects is usually sideways. His attempted through balls usually go to the oppo. Rarely hits the target and tackles like a school kid playing against men. Works hard and would be a decent signing for a top half league one side but if we want to progress to the next level and realistically challenge for top six he needs to be upgraded.

Typical for this forum.
“Kelly should never get near the first team”

Wilson - 6 - good stop from Tella’s header, didn’t have much else to do. No chance with the goal. Kicking not great.

Dabo - 6 - thought he played really well today on the whole, but marked down for the weak marking which led to their goal.
Rose - 7 - impressive today, won everything and rarely looked troubled.
Doyle - 7 - great range of passing, very solid until the last 20 minutes or so.
Bidwell - 7 - thought he looked decent at both ends today.

Norton-Cuffy - 6 - flashes of quality but seemed that he hasn’t really had time to gel and took the wrong option. It’ll come.
Hamer - 7 - for 55-60 minutes he bossed the game. Lack of outlets after that.
Sheaf - 6 - good but more stray passes today than we’ve become used to.
Allen - 6 - meh. Covered a lot of ground, some tidy stuff, should have hit the target with his first half effort.

Palmer - 6 - some good, some bad. Again, should have scored if he had killer instinct.
Gyokeres - 7 - worked their defenders all game, outstanding. However, when you’re presented with a clear cut chance just bloody shoot.

I get your point, but on the ratings for the match you say he’s a left back so not what we need in the position. He was playing left back.

McCallum wasn't even that attacking. He only started creating problems in the final third when he discovered his long throw.

there was no one on that bench who could really have made a difference today, and certainly not Kelly.

Wow so Dado gets marked down because someone said it was his fault for the goal!
Really dont know people on here expect thought we were really good first half, yes we ran out of steam but with players like Dabo who never stopped btw and not long back from injury thought did really well.
Our squad is so poor not sure who we could have brought on to make a differance if I'm honest definatly not Kelly.
There subs would get 8nto our first team.
All in All thought we were unlucky.
Bring on Norwich PUSB.

Yes, should be 8s.
10 if he'd put his chance away.
As usual he single handedly carried the attacking threat until those behind him tired.
Excellent in the first 45.

Bidwelll still gets forward, puts better crosses in than Dabo. Plus he has put more shots in the penalty than Dabo. I can only draw off home games but Bidwell has had at least 3 really good goal bound shots blocked at home.

Wilson 7 Distribution was better than of late. Reacted well with one save. Otherwise not really tested

Dabo 7 Haven't had chance to review whether he was at fault. Thought it was his best game for a while. Some great touches

Rose 8 motm. Rodrigues didn't get a sniff and then marshalled Barnes well

Doyle 6 Some good moments but got turned too easily by Tella a couple of times and some sloppy passing

Bidwell 6 Sloppy start but defended okay. Crossing should be better

Sheaf 7 One error almost costly but intercepted well and controlled midfield first half, along with Hamer

Hamer 7 His positioning has improved. Much more disciplined in this area which reduces gaps

Norton-Cuffy 6 Some decent crosses and one lovely turn on the sideline. At times his touch wasn't great and I thought he tired after an hour and should have been replaced then by Burroughs

Allen 6 Worked hard as usual, got into some good positions but his final quality was lacking

Palmer 7 He was pretty instrumental in anything creative and was our key presser first half. I think he will soon be one of our star players. He is so strong in possession running with the ball

Gyokeres 7 Very good first half but tried to repeat his Swansea goal rather than hit his one on one early

Robins 7 Tactically brilliant first half. Just wished he had brought Burroughs on for Norton-Cuffy on the hour. I think the added energy at that point would have made a difference and I think the position would have suited Burroughs
