No, Grendel brought goals up in post #32
I simply replied to that post. I hadn't mentioned goals at all except in response to #32

I measure a player on his impact on the game and overall contribution.
As I've said on here, I can't fault Allen for his work rate, he's simply not good enough for the championship imo, and we need better if we want to progress.

you said 7 goals is poor for an attacking midfielder over 100 games!

And it is.
I said that in response to your post (post #32)
After YOU bought his strike rate up.

Now can we accept that we need a better player and all move along.

Can’t believe the two best thread titles of the season were both about Jamie Allen being good - lovely stuff.

Seems to be you are either Team Allen or Team Palmer atm. I don't have a massive problem with either whilst also hoping we can improve to a point that they are considered to be more squad players.

7 goals in 100 appearances for an AM is not impressive. (at least 1 was against a non league side)
He's the obvious player we need to replace if we want to progress.

But in the interest of balance and fairness I will say that he gives 100% I can't fault him for that.
He's just not top 6 championship standard, and if that's where we want to be, we need someone better.
Only 4 of our players are top 6 Championship standard.

I think Kelly will go in the summer and Allen will be part of a better bench than we've so far had. Like O'Hare he has to often not been able to find the net but unlike him Callum moves players out of position and makes them uncomfortable, Championship defenders aren't scared of what he might do to them. Its a building process and coupled with new recruitment in the summer unless he ups his game I just think he will be a bit part player as the quality improves. As for the original post the sentiment was Ok but the comedy was lacking.

You cant just say he’s guilty of war crimes, you can say you think a player isnt that good but you’ve gone over the top for no reason, we won our last game its fine. He’s scored 4 goals and got 2 assists this season, he’s been alright but in my opinion should only be a squad player. Not his fault he’s fallen into being picked regularly

I'd add Fadz and maybe Bidwell who looks solid enough defensively to your 4 which gives us 6.

And potentially Mcnally and Doyle may prove to be good enough. But that still leaves us short.

We are still in need of a keeper, RWB, AM and another striker.

Allen is the only other player in the team who gives us the same energy and work rate as O'Hare imo.
Agree he could work on his finishing, but at least he gets himself into the positions where he can have a chance on goal

Ultiately if all the midfielders chipped in with half a dozen goals a season, we'd have a decent base.

So a 36 year old would be a too 6 championship player, 1 guy whose been given to is by a top 6 club as not good enough for them and Bidwell who gets pelters on here

I like Fadz and he has done well this season but at 37 in a couple of weeks there is no way he would walk into a top 6 teams starting line up, I don't believe Bidwell would either.

It's a real shame we couldn't have got fadz 3 or 4 years younger
He's been a late developer though so who knows if we'd have seen the same one we actually got only younger, or if we'd have bombed him out after a season.

Just a reminder to people that don't play football that "running around a lot" is actually a massive attribute in football.

Jamie Allen has his flaws and as someone else has mentioned - the tempo he plays at will have an effect on his final product. A team full of Jamie Allen's would beat a team full of most of our other players.

Well, that's how it feels. Lets look at his rap sheet.

Can't pass
Can't tackle
Can't shoot
Not quick enough to get onto otherwise excellent passes

Half of this is nonsense.

He's had a funny run here in the Championship years. First season it was decided he was useless, and he was indeed often anonymous. That was often because we couldn't impose ourselves on games, and he's not a midfielder to take the game by the scruff of the neck. The following season it was decided around here he was good, and then this season (despite often being one of our more effective players) he's now responsible for Brexit, Covid, the cost of living crisis, and the revival of Donald Trump. It's odd because we've actually had incremental progression where he settles more.

This is by no means to suggest he's a footballing God - he has flaws like any player at this level, but he's by no means a waste of space, and has shown himself deserving of a regular place in our midfield.

The can't pass? if we like stats then the last game, where supposedly he was awful, he had the highest pass accuracy rate of the starting 11. He can pass, he often makes lovely through balls to Gyokeres in particular. What he does do however is try and increase the tempo - it's often said we look pondorous and only look better when we speed up our passing, this is true. Often, it's Allen who's trying the first time plays to get us moving. That increases the likelihood of it not looking so assured. It should also be noted his role in the team, which is clearly to keep the midfield ticking, play simply, allow Hamer to be the creative force (which, incidentally, excuses Hamer's low pass completion rate as he's trying the ambitious much of the time. it's worth noting if Allen had that percentage he'd be slaughtered). Robins himself has also noted that Allen is a good technician. Add in the corner challenge they did years ago and, while none of them excelled particularly, beyond Hamer Allen was a notable runner up in his ability to bend the ball towards goal. He *can* pass, but his role isn't given to be stood on the ball and dictate and it would be silly for it to be so, because Hamer does that bloody well.

Can't tackle? More of a case on the surface as he certainly doesn't dove in. However, it also looks obvious that's not his role. his role is to harry, be a barrier in front of the opposition player, and slow them up so the team as a whole can get into position. he does that effectively. That also means that the team is more ready to knock back opposition attacks. Defending from the front is as much why we had that great defensive record before Christmas as the role of the defenders - the reason the defenders could be in a difficult to break down block is as much because of this tactic. Without O'Hare, that's solely down to Allen, and it's a role he does well - don't look to the lack of tackling in isolation.

Can't shoot? Undoubtedly times he scuffs shots, but who doesn't? What he does have is five goals already this season. There have been a couple of bludgeoned shots charged down. It's fair to say shooting could be better, but... he has taken to scoring goals this season, and is currently at about par of what you'd expect for a midfielder. Also worth noting his role is to break the lines, run beyond the striker, which he often does but isn't picked up by our players either... or we have the ludicrous suggestion there are brilliant passes, but it's Allen's fault for not being quick enough to get onto them. Much as with us, the solid defensive line of the opposition can be difficult to break down - going beyond the forwards is something few of our players do, and even if the ball doesn't get to Allen it can stretch the opposition back line, throw them out of shape a little.

It is however true that he has been responsible for genocides in both Rwanda and Cambodia, and was also Hitler's chauffeur.

Just been reading through the responses to what I thought was an excellent post and was surprised at the vitriol you received from some. I’m not sure if that was because of the satirical nature of what you said or that they really dislike Jamie Allen so much.
For what it’s worth, I think Allen is a good player, who for all of the reasons you state, has a positive impact on the way we play. His passing is generally good and as on Saturday with his first time ball to Vik, he can set us on the attack really effectively. He isn’t Hamer. O’Hare or Sheaf but he is still a player we miss on the rare occasions he isn’t in the team. (Wrexham a case in point).
The fact that Robins continually picks him, and this after a season when we were first promoted where he couldn’t get near the team, shows that he values what Allen does.
As one of the most vocal opposition voices on this thread is someone who thinks it’s a good idea to boo and abuse our own players (hopefully he listens to Robins comments on support after Saturday’s game) I think his opinion is mainly null and void.
