Another one for the recruitment team hall of fame.

He's probably going to become the new punch line of that long running joke about the time we all foolishly thought Gray had gone.

Can people please stop doing this. No recruitment team in the world only signs successes.

They don't, but when they have a small budget, the room for error is much smaller.

Given how fucked our squad has been this season, and how many players need to be moved on, they've been responsible for signing some absolute dross. It's only fair to call that out alongside championing the good signings.

Surly he was worth a contract extension? He would have been like a new signing in the summer.

That’s nonsense. The less a recruitment team is working with the more gambles they have to take and obviously will have a higher failure rate. The trick is the few success say turn into £25m players.

Madness.

You cannot just give them a free ride because Joy had a tight arse. It's part of the job to work within a budget. They've signed some absolute disasters and should be called out on it.

With Hillsner gone, and Cashman loaned out, could we be making funds available for a last minute signing?
Hopefully someone exciting rather than a WB please.

I think they have been called out for it, which is why they are no longer here.

But the Hilssners, Dacostas, Kastaneers etc are the price you have to pay for the Gyokeres, Hamers, Sheafs and O'Hares.

It's just the nature of the beast.

For an outlay of less than £10m we’ve produced over £30m of talent. That’s a success whatever way you put it.

What is the 30million? As far as I'm aware we haven't sold anyone recently.

There have been some good signings, but I don't see how anyone can say that they were outrageous risks at the time. There have been some really odd acquisitions however, and it has seen our small squad inflated with ineffective players using up wages. We are in need of a massive clear out, that isn't because the recruitment team have done overwhelmingly well, is it?

Hamer, Sheaf, O'hare and Gyokeres for a combined fee of less than £3m ain't bad.
Fadz was a great acquisition too, Dabo was good before injuries, and some of the loans look good.

Yes we've signed some less succeful players, too many to list in fact, but with a bottom 6 budget we can't complain too much if we're still in sight of the playoff places.

You can’t split it out like that really. Some come off, some don’t. You hope that overall more do than don’t. The only real “big money” failure is Walker.

We can all be happy in the knowledge that at least he hasn't committed any war crimes.

On the other hand, he is German isn't he. 🤔

Looks like our only target is this Jay Silva lad from Bristol. I would have thought MR was going for a striker but I guess with Godden and Walker due back he might not need one?

And Waghorn, not for the fee, but for the fact that he's the highest paid player, and hasn't given value for money.
I don't blame Waghorn for signing the contract, but surely we must of known that he was well past his best.

Exactly. And as we've moved up from L2 to the Championship, they can't have too badly overall!

Constantly pointing the failures is like moaning about a striker that scored a hattrick but missed a chance for a fourth.
