Brilliant news. Unless he gets injured, it's an easily forseeable waste of valuable funds then.
He really has defied the usual pattern by getting so much better into his mid-30s. I do hope we can bring someone in soon that can act as a successor though, he can't go on forever....surely?

I don't. Not because he doesn't deserve a decent way but because we've got a low enough budget as it is and we need to stretch that as far as possible.
Really happy he's staying but we need to make sure we're going to have enough budget left to properly plan his succession. At some point he's not going to be able to do it anymore and we've been incredibly poor at getting ready for that day.

He’s genuinely improved year on year and the benefits of his experience are clear to see. I think we all feel more confident with him at the back.

Playing non-league up until mid/late 20’s might have extended his career. Not sure if
Alfreton were full time (think not) so might not have trained as hard at 20-23/24 as he might otherwise have done so.
Sometimes happens like that. May have had less wear & tear on joints and such.
Also, might have grounded him to not take things for granted.
Anyway, he’s a superb example to the younger pros and it’s a well deserved extension.

Great news and a boost for morale, the skipper virtually fit and committed to the cause. He's getting on a bit in football terms but he can still do a job and hopefully will marshal and motivate the youngsters.

I think we were still playing 4 at the back at this point and I certainly remember not being too impressed with McFadzean's start for us, where he seemed to overdo the playing out from the back, and where he often seemed to leave the defence exposed in doing so. Looking back now Fadz and the team were obviously adapting to each other and this change in style, which when we then went to play 3 centre backs produced our league winning team. A lesson in jumping the gun, which we could all perhaps learn from at times.
If anything, McFadzean has belied his years and actually improved each season to the extent that his recent absence proved that he is currently invaluable to us. His influence on the defenders around him is also profound, as they are all infinitely better players when playing alongside him. The new contract is well deserved.

I reckon the likes of Doyle will be very appreciative of what he's learnt from the likes of Fadz as his career goes on. Teaching him a lot about communication and how vital it is in defending.

Well he has 12 months left on his existing contract, he will command top dollar wages, that doesn’t mean he’ll never be sold but ups his value, all sorts of things can be put in a contract regards transfers etc. it’s how it works.

I’d be amazed (and delighted) if he agreed to sign one but not signing one gives him greater leverage this summer.

I’m sure if offered he will, money talks and he’s the main man striker here, up to to Mark Robins to get a good strike partner to play with him, again we saw yesterday poor support up top for Vik and I know he can be a big greedy but at times he has to be.
To be serious challengers for promotion we need him, very difficult to replace and just as costly wage wise.

Agreed-We play differently without Callum O’Hare.
Less support up top but more solid defensively.
I really feel that we are missing pace. Someone with the ability to take on players and go past them. Take the emphasis away from Vic.
To those saying we should sell him-you’re bloody crazy. Strikers like Gyo are like gold dust-don’t know any player Championship and lower that could replace him and if we went abroad on a gamble we wouldn’t get like-for-like.
Need to move heaven and earth to keep him.

Absolutely spot on. I know we could sneak the play-offs this season but I’m assuming we won’t, but Vik next season with better players as promised around him will frighten the opposition to death. He terrorised Millwall last night whose strength is their defence.

of course we'd love to keep him, but if we do will we just be in the same position as now where we're ruing him not having much support, or a defence/keeper that looks shaky at times?
There's going to be a lot of squad turnover this summer and it would be great if we could invest those wages in the right players while also keeping hold of the likes of Gyo, CoH, Palmer, Sheaf, Hamer and Fadz next season. But even if we got every signing right we'd still have a small squad and injuries would eventually bite and our back-ups won't be anywhere near the same level. It'd be even better if Doug gave us a bit of a transfer budget as well but the noises that are being made I'm not expecting that.
The fee we could get for Gyokeres could allow us to bring in 4,5,6 players to improve the team. Decent players that may also allow us to change things more often so we don't get so many injuries. No-one else in the squad is going to allow us to do that if we sold them.
So while keeping Gyokeres would be great, if we didn't it wouldn't automatically mean we'd be rubbish.
