Saw this mentioned on another thread, but I was watching a replay of a game the other day, and was struck by the chasing back that Hamer does, and the amount of times that he reads players trying to cut back. He regularly gets a foot in to disrupt the opposition attacks. I think a lot of this is down to his ability to read what a player is trying to do, coupled with his low centre of gravity, enabling him to twist and turn better than most. Add in his natural competitiveness, and ability with the ball, I think he is more important to the team going forward than any other player. The first player that I think we need to tie down to a new contract if we can.

Absolutely. His work rate and impact every match is phenomenal. That's why he is our most important player. His absences early on were a large part if the reason for our bad start. We would be a weak side if you took Hamer out of the team.

It's the area he's made by far the biggest improvement in. Previously he lacked discipline positionally, frequently caught out pressing high & leaving massive gaps behind. That's when he'd make daft, cynical fouls because he was out of the game. Last season he averaged far more fouls per game than successful tackles.
Since his suspension though he's made incredible strides & it's no coincidence that he now gets far less yellow cards. It's literally like a switch flicked in his head.

Anyone advocating him playing in a more forward role needs sin binning till they come to their senses.

Absolute quality in every respect. Top players always want the ball and he really wants the ball. Just as importantly his team mates trust him to give it to him in really tight spaces. He must be on other teams’ radars. Unbelievable energy

Seems fitter and more motivated.

Around Christmas time he was sluggish and tired easily.

He's the most gifted player we've had since the Premier League. Gyökeres is a monster but Hamer is a natural.

Having given it a coat of looking at, Hamer played box-to-box midfielder today in a 3-5-2.

I’m sure you know this.

He could, if required, play as an attacking midfielder very ably.

I’m sure you know this too.

For those that understand these things, no explanation is needed. For those that don’t understand, no explanation is possible.

I'm more impressed with him cleaning up his discipline.

That for me was the reason why other clubs didn't go after him, could guarantee he'll miss 5x games a season at least just from suspension

Now he is a much more attractive prospect and we should tie him down to a new deal ASAP!

He no doubt was a very good player, but he used to frustrate the hell out of me, he was too greedy, and as he had a shot like a rocket, decided to use it even when it was the worst option… Not a good team player in my opinion.

I think he's f*kin brilliant.

He's got an element of seniority in that midfield now as well, and he's thriving off it. It was more or less a captain inspiring performance yesterday the way he led by example with all the younger players around him. Not just on the pitch physically with his whereabouts and commitment, but the way he was always the first to talk to the ref in any situation and take charge of things.

Very impressed with him.
