Not a bad draw playing 90 minutes with 10 men

Edit: scrap that, just seen we had Godden playing too.

Eccles had a good game.

No idea why we didn't make changes after they did and it was obvious we had players shattered and we were under pressure.
Robins again losing points not managing the game. It was so obvious we neede fresh legs at 75 minutes yet he again has his head in the sand. Godden was so poor 5 good chances missed the lot. If Walker had done that he would have been hung drawn and quartered.

Andy Turner really hates Sheaf doesn't he? Has he ever given him a high rating? 6.5 tonight 😂

Don't think we should be damning Godden so much. He hasn't played great since his layoff but has a goal and an assist. His finishing wasn't his normal standard but there is no question he is a good finisher. He works his socks off too. For me, Robins should have taken him off for Walker, but that's not Godden's fault.

Wilson 5 - Nearly threw it away by coming out and punching thin air.
Burroughs - 6 Much better than Cuffy.
Fadz - 6
McNally - 6
Doyle - 6.5 Some outrageous play on the ground.
Bidwell - 6 Great cross.
Hamer - 6 Odd bit of brilliance but not his best. Big chance at the end.
Eccles - 8 Last two games have shown he is ready to start in a Championship midfield.
Maguire - 6 Thought he looked alright again. Nice composure for the chance when he rounded the keeper. Don't think Godden or Vik make that kind of run.
Godden - 3. Was poor for 80 minutes. Truly dreadful last 10.
Vik - 6 Would have been a lot lower without the goal.

Sheaf - 6.5. Joy to have him back.
Cuffy - 4. Dreadful crosser of the ball.

Robins - Screaming out for a sub 15 minutes to go. Feel sorry for Walker once again.

Referee - Great for the most part but poor towards the end. Vik got nothing. Didn't book the striker screaming at him every few minutes.

Wigan were better than a lot we played this season. Thought they did well in the first half and decent fight to claw a point.

Have to disagree. Take his 2 penalties out he’s scored 3 in 1300 minutes. 1 goal every 7 hours is hardly good.

Wigan were playing for their lives and well up for it. MR H/T subs swung it our way.
Went a goal up, then started to sit back a bit more.

Wigan made attacking subs and came at us again but did not look like scoring.

Our players started to tire, MR should have made some more changes (i love Godden, but since he came back from his last injury he has not been the same player (let's hope he just needs match fitness(could the black eye have effected his vision slightly?))).

Walker should have come on for him, by not giving him a go with Godden in such poor form will only knock Walkers confidence even more.

You can't blame Fadz for the OG.

Season is still not over, we still have a chance but other results have to go our way and many teams above us have to play each other so they will all drop points.

Also, even if we don't make the play-offs plays like Eccles, Burroughs and Howley can and will learn a lot from the rest of this season if selected to play.

Close season will see lot's of new players arrive, let's just hope the new recruitment team are up to it.

PUSB, MR, AV and the recruitment team :)

Wilson 6
Burroughs 5 - just not his night
McNally 7 - pretty solid
McFadzean 6 - poor opening half an hour but better after that
Doyle 7
Bidwell 6 - gets a point for his good cross but he was pretty poor otherwise, hesitant defensively and offensively
Eccles 7 - played well in spells, frustratingly had a shot when an easy ball to slip Vik in was on
Hamer 6 - usually high energy but gave the ball away through bad decisions, sometimes the obvious pass is the right one!
Maguire 5 - not a midfielder to be fair, unlucky when he went round the keeper
Godden 6 - should have buried the first half chance, and later on. Not clinical enough.
Gyokeres 6 - good goal but another game where he's struggled to get involved, looks tired and is getting no help from his manager

Subs
Sheaf 8 - we looked a million times better when he came on
BNC 5 - poor decision making, final ball (bar one excellent one which neither striker attacked - probably through shock)

Robins 5 - selection wrong from the start, some credit for changing it but again it was obvious that we'd dropped 10-15 yards and it seems like he had no answer but to wait for their goal

Agree with almost every word of this except I'll give Robins a 6 for the HT changes.

For me it’s another game where most the team were equal performance wise, McNally good again but a bit at fault for their goal, Wilson kept well but certainly flapped and got a bit lucky with one cross, Hamer a bit hot and cold. two games now he’s looks jaded to me after half-time. Sheaf did well when he came on but faded hopefully should be better Saturday, over the lot I’d put Doyle m.o.m, but not a lot in.

It was just poor in the end

The goal was always coming and we should have put new bodies on the pitch to get momentum back

Tame surrender in the end

Vik last 3 games looks knackered, Godden utter shite again, Walker must have killed Robins cat or goldfish or something. They looked the better passing side all we done most of the game was win the ball and promptly gave it back to them...a frustrating game ! I liked Bidwells cross and he done another one not long after but the players were still in utter disbelief about the first one lol so nobody went for it

Not sure what people are referring to with Eccles. Struggled like everyone with the shape in the first half, however some of his passing was pretty woeful. He did ok, but certainly wouldn’t have him as the stand out.

Gyok look frustrated after 5 minutes. They were manhandling him, and did a bit of a job on him.

Godden struggled massively on the ball, just didn’t seem strong enough to keep hold of it.

Norton-Cuffy was good when he came on. Played on the front foot, direct, pinned them back.

Sheaf absolutely brilliant, totally changed the game.

Back 3 were all pretty tidy. Doyle going for an ambitious through ball a bit too often, but he was v good on the ball otherwise. McNally won everything.

Too tired to give the players any ratings.

People who organise roadworks, closures and diversions - 1/10

Think that might be the last time I put myself through the turmoil of an M6 midweek away day.

Wigan didn't look or play like a team in the bottom three...and they could have nicked it. Not the bad result some think...still on unbeaten run.

Wilson 6

No clean sheet. Some good clearances and saves but also rushed out and made a hash of a couple of things. Improving all the time. With Moore likely off in the summer it’ll be interesting to see who we bring in - backup or competition?

Burroughs 5

Young kid, was expected to cover areas which were exposed by our lack of bodies in midfield and did his best. Looked a bit uncertain going forward. Chalk it down to another learning session under his belt.

McNally 8

Proper defender, seemed to do his job and even got forward well on occasion.

Fadz 6

Poor by his standards, own goal never welcome. Would like him to get in the refs face early on in games to protest about the holding and kicking of Vik - that’s a skippers job.

Doyle 7

Tidy enough. Played well short from the back and a couple of lovely long balls.

Bidwell 7

Got a great cross in for the goal but needs to be more decisive sometimes. Often takes an extra touch before hitting a cross which gives the defenders time to regroup. Get it in the danger area earlier.

Hamer 7

Trying to be two players at a time. Covered a lot of ground, got forward, covered back, class above. Missed an easy chance at the end which might prove pivotal.

Eccles 6

Ok but not spectacular like some have suggested. Made some rookie mistakes in pass selection which put pressure on us. Needs to be rotated out for a short while. Got shoved hard by one of their players right in front of the Ref near the end. If he’d have gone down and made a meal then the opponent would have been in trouble. Needs to learn some dark arts.

McDire 5

Not suited to our high tempo constant midfield press and it left a big Jamie Allen sized gap in the centre field (ok. Much bigger than Jamie Allen). For all his faults, Allen will run back and press. McDire did on occasion but often just trotted back. He doesn’t fit in IMHO to our way of play. Needed to be hooked off and was.

Godden 6

Godden isn’t a brilliant footballer but is a brilliant finisher. Normally. Ran channels but hitting a great pass or dribbling in from wide isn’t his party trick. Missed 2 good chances.

Gyok 7

Got grabbed, kicked, scored. M Doyle wouldn’t have let the opposition get away with the opposition roughing up and would have been in the Refs ear all game. Fadz is are the skipper now, it’s unlikely Kelly will be back on the pitch soon. Next time I see him in Crystal Peaks I’ll tell him (partly satire) that he needs to get a bit more involved with that side.

Subs

Not on Coffee ?

Don’t know how to rate him. “Totally unique” is a polite way of describing. Incredible athlete but….f*** knows. Added something when he came on. Confusion, mainly.

Sheaf 8

Huge impact. Used to have a touch of the dithers but seems to have conquered that. Missed him

Robins 7

Set up was wrong to start but read the match thread, saw my post on 25 mins suggesting BNC for Burroughs and Sheaf for McDire at half time (satire but true) Can’t remember him subbing at half time before.

Seems we had the chances to score at least 3 (again), but the reluctance of MR to go with Walker AND make changes at critical points has contributed to this draw. Their goal was just bad luck really, as it was heading well wide. Gus was unlucky at the death, but who’s to say Walker wouldn’t have put away those chances that Godden had? I’m just mystified at his continual inclusion despite all of these wasted chances!

When we’re firing, we’re a match for anyone, but when there are weak links in the chain, and when MR doesn’t change it up when is required, we end up looking distinctly average. But still, another point, the run continues, and if we finish 9th I’d be over the moon. Great platform to improve next season, with some decent signings.
