When you look at the Newcastle team they are miles away from a team that would seriously challenge at the top, players like Willock Murphy and others are just lower table players at the best, they are going to have to spend serious money.

Defensively they are rubbish - had towering CB’s like Vertonghen and Aulderwiereld previously but have never really replaced them. Midfield isn’t really that great (personally don’t see the hype in Hojbjerg)

Yea, they're just not that good (Kane aside). It feels like they genuinely need manager that can get results on a shoestring budget (relatively speaking). For me Conte never felt like the right fit.
For what it's worth like Hojberg, he strikes me as the sort of player that would excel in a top team doing all that unsung hero work.

This is by deliberate design, the Champions League is the shadow European Super League to which teams are promoted every season. Sadly, the UK media embraces this ridiculous tournament whilst it squeezes the life out of its domestic competitions.

The champions league is shite until the quarters. I have no idea how anyone can bother with the group stages, it's all so tedious!
As for the FA cup, I think supporters of clubs outside the big guns love it, the 3rd round draw is magic. I can't wait for next seasons for example and I couldn't give a fishes tits about the European draws (if they have them at all)
