Too slow. Contributed zero. Promotion is not achieved by a popularity poll.Robin needs to play the best available

Godden should be finished here, injury after injury after injury have taken their toll and he is not contributing enough, hate to say it but I would rather keep Walker
Since when has acute appendicitis been an injury? Can happen to anyone. The foot aside his injuries have been the sort that anyone gets. I doubt there's a manager in the Championship or in L1 who would take Walker over Godden.

The thing with Godden is, for about 12 months now it's generally been agreed on here he doesn't offer much in the game but if he gets a chance, he's the man you want on the end of it.

Now he's missing those chances.
Let's not forget that he had more goals than Vik at the start of the season and would have had quite a few more if Vik had squared the ball a bit more often.

He used to get a few with his head too but we can't seem to cross the ball anymore

Based on the last few months, he'd miss it if Gyok passed to him

This

I stuck up for him a lot and he was the best finisher at the club by a long way. Its all he had really. Now that seems to have escaped him i wouldn't say hes good enough even for this league anymore

And his foot injury at the time was described by Robins as rare something to do with the sole of the foot and the only real treatment was time.

But you claimed he would miss based on the last few months. The same period where he has scored. Fail to see your justification if im honest

One goal at Blackpool with a a dreadful attempt to save it does not justify his performances.

Vik, O'Hare and Allen have all missed tons of chances playing for us, but they have multiple other assets to offer to the team. Godden offers nothing besides scoring. It's always been the way at this level and isn't a problem.

The issue now is that he's having good chances and missing them.

Goddens goals to points gained ratio

Millwall away 1 goals 0 points
Hull away 2 goals 0 points (1x pen)
Luton home 1 goals 1 point (1x pen)
Hull home 1 goal 1 point
Blackpool 1 goals 0 points (already 3-1 up)

6 goals = 2 points

so how many games has he missed since he has been here with injuries? I said they have taken their toll

Godden was/is a great natural finisher and alongside a different strike partner or in a different formation might have more goals.

Injuries and that thing, age, which catches up with everyone, have taken their toll.

His support play and all round game isn’t top Champ level.

His goals helped us out of L1 and for that he’ll always be remembered for.

I know it’s would’d should’a could’a but turning down good money from daft Huddersfield in the summer seems a mistake.

IMO we’d be top 6 now if we didn’t have to sell Hyam.

Anyway. Hindsight.

Assume Walker must be poor in training or something as everytime he's contributes in games, he then gets frozen out in subsequent matches

Took a while to get home from Swansea and still cannot understand how Walker didn't get any minutes today.
The only explanation is , is that Robins is wrong and you are correct 🤷‍♂️

We've a player in godden who , according to about 7 on this forum is missing sitters ( not really true when based on the XG ) , who is playing SHIT every week and yet there is our manager who still plays him almost at every given chance ?

Tell me , what is it that this forum know that they don't, I'm massively curious 🤔

Confused by this angle. Are you trying to say it’s Godden’s fault that we’ve not won many points in games he’s scored in?

Anyway , il leave this thread here .. enjoy , and shows that this argument has been rumbling for a long time from some fans ...

Some of the opinions in there are being echoed here today still , by the same people which proves some have always had it in for him ..
I'm done arguing with you

He was pivotal in helping us get to where we are but if we’re serious about progression he should either be backup as 4th choice or moved on.

No, just that he hasn't scored many match winning goals when we've needed them, there's a lack of big goals at key times. He's made 24 appearances and scored in just 5 of them. Yes some of those are short appearances, but we've seen in the last few games he's missed some good chances at key times.

May as well keep him on for his final year, he’s been a great servant and knows how things are done under Robins which we need. I’d be looking at ideally signing two strikers and loaning another and Godden can be fourth choice.

Read the thread you've been like it with him for 3 years .. you even made a chart showing his open play goals .. just move on , you've never liked him 😂

Atleast the stats I show mean something rather than " when godden scored from a 45 degree angle we've picked up one point in the last 5 games "

How's our form stu ?

He is underperforming his xG more than any other player tbf.
He is but the XG isn't large to begin with , per 90 he's under performing by 0.13 or so .. it's minimal stuff

They aren't huge sitters basically

I'd argue that yeah, robins is wrong on this one given Goddens recent performances

I’m not up is to speed with XG and how it works but given that Godden’s main strength is finishing rather than creating or pressing I’d hope he’d have a good goals to chances ratio?

Fair enough , so what's goddens role then ? We all know if he wasn't playing to instructuctions he'd be pulled out , as we've seen with others in the past

It's the quality of chances basically , we are 10th in the league for xg we are underperforming slightly on it Screenshot_20230408_170614_Chrome.jpg

Yes but single shot xG or single game xG isn't much use, the whole point of xG is over a large dataset. That said, he has the highest xG & npxG per 90 in our team, which is encouraging that he's getting into good positions, but simply put he's not taking the chances.

He actually ranks in the top 5 players in the league for npxG per Shot so these are really good chances but he is actually in the bottom 10 for npG:xG ratio.
