This popped up today, remember it being a great night with Celtic bringing 6k I think, definitely gave him the send off he deserved. Also remember a streaker appearing in the second half then disappearing into the north stand, turned out it was someone my Dad knew.

Richard Shaw. Always had mixed feelings about him. He was one of Strachan's favourites (along with Paul Williams, and Paul Telfer). However Strachan's loyalty to Williams & Shaw cost us our Premier League place. They weren't good enough. He should of found a top CB to partner Breen in that last season (00/01) and we would of stayed up. Shaw at least stayed on into the Championship with us, where he never looked a class above to be honest. Hard worker, committed, but limited and his lack of height was a real weakness.

I remember one pissed up c**t walking down the stairs of the North Stand babbling some shit and giving it loads only to be met with a head butt from one of our lot.

I don’t really give a fuck about Celtic/Rangers but they were a horrible bunch that night and plenty of IRA songs were being sang.

How amazingly ‘horrible’ that 6000 of them turned up to pay at a testimonial for a coventry player… terrible bunch, every last one of them 🙄

They turned up to watch their club playing an English side. Let's not try and paint this as some form of altruism in support of Richard Shaw.

Not sure what you would classify as good and bad but I found pissed up people trying to pick fights with home supporters in the home end and singing pro-IRA songs in a city that had been targeted twice by the IRA kind of put me off that jovial bunch from north of the border.

You obviously regard someone headbutting a stranger as some sort of hero, so I think we can see where your moral compass is.
Let’s not paint 6000 who turn up to a mess about friendly testimonial as a uniform ‘horrible bunch’ eh. I’m sure Richard Shaw was happy enough.
I suspect this is more about your politics than anything else.

Alright Joe Biden let's not make this political as you know fuck all about me and a number of people on here who do know me personally will know how laughable that comment is.

I'm not sure those poor 6000 souls are going to get too upset about one mans observation on their fanbase on a message board about a game that happened 17 years ago. You regularly get called a c**t on here and you still post so stop taking offence on others behalf.

I thought Liam Davis was going to be a superstar after his goal. Pretty sure he beat 2 or 3 defenders before scoring.
Thornton also scored and looked the same. Disappeared soon after.
Plenty of Celtic fans around us but no issues whatsoever.

He had a reputation as one of the best man markers ..he used to do a good job on bergkamp...his pace in his early days was his real asset. It was quite a coup when he signed. He was a big step up from his predecessors imo.

Remember Wise’s goal being a FK or long range shot deflecting into the air off a Celtic player and looping over the keeper.

I wonder what sort of crowd we'd get if we played Celtic or Rangers these days. I think we could give them 10k and they'd sell it.

What was frustrating was playing Rangers during Covid when we couldn't go. I think we'd take shit tons to either Rangers or Celtic in a preseason game. 5k+

Totally agree. I despise them. I know where I was sat there was a loud rendition of Fuck the IRA thankfully.

Would much rather have swapped that testimonial for the preseason friendly at Ibrox that was behind closed doors because of Covid.

I’m all for helping out grassroots football but both sets of fans are as bad as each other with their sectarianism.

I do remember some Celts looking a bit inebriated outside singing….’ Who the fuck is Richard Shaw’ …..very disrespectful.
On another note I do agree though that he was a liability in our relegation season. Always standing around with his hands on his hips after every goal conceded looking to blame others.

Get the Black and Tans back to sort it out
