Crossing, shooting, passing, carries, touches (and variations thereof).

I'll gladly do a comparison if you want to see the proof

Good let’s see Dabos as well

So I have compared Bidwell with JWE (his competition), Alfie Doughty (the LWB for the next team above us that plays wing backs) and Ryan Manning (the LWB for the next team below us that plays wing backs – and of course Bidwell's replacement at Swansea).

(all for Championship games only, on a per 90 basis)

xAG
Manning - 0.26
Doughty - 0.20
JWE - 0.20
Bidwell - 0.07

Key passes:
Manning – 2.51
Doughty – 2.21
JWE – 2.14
Bidwell – 0.93

Shot creating actions:
JWE – 4.28
Manning – 4.18
Doughty – 4.03
Bidwell – 1.87

Crosses per game:
Doughty – 9.52
Manning – 8.90
JWE – 3.93
Bidwell – 3.74

Shots per game:
Manning – 1.41
JWE – 1.25
Doughty – 1.20
Bidwell – 0.59

Touches in attacking penalty area:
Manning – 2.32
JWE – 2.32
Doughty – 1.78
Bidwell – 1.27

Successful take ons:

Bidwell – 0.08 (lol)

Progressive carries per game:
JWE – 5.18
Doughty – 3.17
Manning – 2.46
Bidwell – 0.82

Totally carrying distance (m):

JWE – 1.25
Doughty – 0.72
Manning – 0.64
Bidwell – 0.08 (lol)

Bottom in every single stat. Some of them are only marginal tbf, but some are just miles off.

So yes he takes up forward positions a lot, but he doesn’t do much with those positions, and Robins is clearly looking for more.

If Robins only looked at the assist column as some on here seem to think he does then he wouldn’t be looking to bin him off for a more attacking alternative.

I will gladly engage in a discussion about this with anyone willing because it's an interesting topic, but I'm sure it will just be met by laughing emojis from Grendel and Boosh.

Look at the number of LWBs we’ve had who have gone on to a much better second Championship season McCallum, Giles, Maatsen. Those stats are very impressive. Obviously the other side of the coin would be his defensive stats, but I maintain a decent back three and a GK upgrade and we can use the WBs in a more attacking role more often.

Bidwell's ball retention is excellent, he very rarely gives it away.
Slight headache is that quite often it slows the attack down by going backwards.
He's not one for beating his man, but he's pretty much a 7 out 10 every week.
Personally I'd put him on set pieces, great shape and delivery.
I believe Gus wastes alot of our set plays.
He's an old fashioned full back, more overlaps and final product. The two lads on loan will beat a man or at least try to, it looks exiting and attacking but hasn't got us much. Not always their fault, when they got to the byline on occasion there's not been a cut back on so they just spank it into the box

Do you have DaSilvas? Dunno why I’m being brought into this I half agree with everyone. I think Bidwell is a good defender who’s attacking ability isn’t as bad as his detractors make out. I also don’t think he’s great going forward because he’s 3rd in our assist list.

I’d be disappointed to lose him and replace him with JWE and Dasilva but happy to be proven wrong with the latter. I don’t believe Dasilva is as good defensively as Bidwell and I don’t believe Bidwell’s attacking deficiency is bad enough to merit the swap.

Dasilva plays more like Dabo from what I have seen.

Hes a fullback and it will show the relevance of these stats

Errr... I've just compared him to three other wing backs. Including one that plays for us (that you said is dreadful, a joke, a disaster).

Most on here agree Dabo should be backup next season (some would happily let him go), so wanting to compare Bidwell against a guy most don't think is good enough isn't really the gotcha you think it is.

I have no idea what Dabos attacking stats are - you clearly spend a lot of time forensically analysing such things so what are they

Can't be arsed to type it all out but yeah you're not too far off with that.

Better than Bidwell in just about every attacking category, but not by much in some cases.

So he's perhaps a bit of a middle ground between Bidwell and JWE.

Better than Bidwell in some and worse in some.

What on earth is your point?

But of course Bidwell is comfortable in the air and DaSilva has an obvious limitation there.

I would just like to point out there is something to work with with esbrand , he's played just over 500 minutes here in his first loan move away , and I think had shown glimpses of what he can do .

He's played 2x in the champions league for man city albeit only 45 minutes .

I'd be happy to see him back
The main complaint of signing both wing backs, but especially Esbrand-Wilson, is they were starting from scratch where we needed instant impact. If they come back next season that's mitigated somewhat, as at least we benefit a bit from their growing pains.

Yes quite a big difference there.

If you rank them offensively it's: JWE, Dasilva, Bidwell
If you rank them defensively it's the other way round: Bidwell, Dasilva, JWE

So Dasilva perhaps slightly more balanced

Rumours suggest that DaSilva is nailed on, and Bidwell will be off. It nearly happened in January. I guess JWE will be competing with Dasilva for LWB next season then. I like Bidwell but if we're playing with wing backs we need a more offensively minded player
Do we think Dasilva is that more offensively minded player though?

I wouldn't be against signing him, he played well offensively on Monday, but would be very worried if we were left with just him and didn't either keep Bidwell or bring in an experienced player to be first choice. I'd be very concerned about his defensive capabilities if he was coming as first choice.

It would make signing him this season feel better.

Can see him going to a Lower league sorta Rotherham Esque

he’s not a bad player and he’s defensively solid

think robins wants to move him on and it would be controversial but I’d support it, I’d sacrifice his defensive work for someone who can threaten when he crosses the half way line

I think we should sign this guy up. He sounds perfect for the 'inverted fullback' role.

It is but that stat nonsense is a bit too much

How so? It was a discussion about Bidwells stats, people were making an argument which I said was wrong and I posted the stats to back it up. And it took like 2 mins.

It doesn't prove that Bidwell is bad at going forward though, does it?

Somebody could complete a million passes a game but do nothing with it.

He has created goals and scored one. Other fullbacks haven't regardless of how many touches they have.

I’m sure up until recently Bidwell has played in every game this season, yet apparently Robins doesn’t rate him.
