Normal home Saturday is big breakfast at Cassilex cafe in Holbrooks with my lad, then up to the Craftsman for opening at 12, several beers and games of pool later, get the coach down to the CBS.
This Saturday lad is in Rotterdam/Amsterdam with his Mrs, so it looks like I'm going it alone

Change of routine for us tomorrow, partly as expecting big queues, but more so as we usually eat/drink 25/30 minutes walk from the ground so drinking closer tomorrow to enjoy the atmosphere.

Dhillons is probably best for that, it’s where I’ve been going for the odd change of routine, but my Dad doesn’t fancy it due to how rammed it’ll be.

So we’re all heading to Byatts tomorrow, which tbf has much better ale.

It’s also my Dads first game and beer since a successful Cancer Op, so even more reason for us to enjoy the day tomorrow.

flying in from isle of man to liverpool, then train down saturday morning. Have booked straight through to arena, but thinking that may be aggro if full of blue noses? any other singletons flying in fancy meeting up in SBT perhaps?
If you want to avoid blues go direct to Nuneaton from liverpool (think it normally works out faster) then train to the arena.

Driving up from the South Coast with the (Arsenal supporting) boy in tow. He's borrowing a shirt... I'll keep working on him... Can't wait. Might get up there early doors for a bit of Dhillons or maybe Byatts as mentioned. Not been out in Cov for years. So.... where after for a damn fine curry?

The food at Dhillons or the Sky Blue Tavern in town is pretty decent to be fair

Dhillons really need to sort the service out. think it’s fab pre match but not enough staff Serving.

they should have someone pre-pouring, they’ll only be sat there on the side for literally 2 minutes.

It was heaving last week and took no longer than 10 mins for a pint.

It's been fine the past few months. They have about 5 bars now.
It wasn't the other week. Took ages.

Plus the beer is getting worse and worse. Dead as a dodo.

I do like the place, really like the sky blue tavern too.

Took a lot longer than 10 minutes in the Anecdote for a midweek game and about the same in the casino on Saturday.

10mins for a pint at 2pm is standard for football

It was about a minute, two max, in the concourse at 2pm. And about 5 minutes wait at 2.30pm.

And yeah the concourse isn't as good as being in a pub, I get that.

I had a very good Brooklyn Pilsner in there last week. Madri was standard, no different to the ground.

The bar outside that just serves Madri is the quickest by some way.

They have about 15 bar staff now, but some games can still be a challenge. Tomorrow I'm stocking up early. Think they are applying to extend further for next season.

Beer is ok, depends what you have. Camden Pale is ok usually. I think the quality does suffer when they are so busy.

When did the engine close? I noticed it started to be closed in the week but didn't know it was all the time.

Edit: new management in may. Looks like same owners as park gate...
That’s correct. Closing for a couple of weeks. Bad timing for sure.

Be a laugh seeing them trying to squeeze on those two carriages on that little train if there’s a few of them😃
