A complete performance, aside from the pot shot at the end Birmingham had nothing all game. Only criticism is 2-0 flattered them.

Wilson 6 - didn't do anything wrong, nothing really to do either, so resolutely average! Not his fault, but would rather the keeper ended up with an average mark for just needing to turn up.
Norton-Cuffy 8 - his best defensive performance for us by far. Stuck to his man, was a decent roadblock, and tried to offer an outlet too.Up front didn't work so well, but...
McNally 7 - OK, bit casual at times.
McFadzean 8 - dominant first half, a little less second, but a proper captain's performance.
Doyle 8 - he's come on strong recently, at exactly the right time. More aggressive today, asserted himself and didn't let himself get dominated.
Bidwell 8 - always an outlet, a couple of decent shots, burst forward well, solid in defence.
Hamer 7 - passing on point in the main, couple of times again I can see why he goes for the quick pass to try and set us on the break, it does mean when it goes wrong it comes straight back at us.
Eccles 8 - forget the goal (not really his anyway was it!) but the best performance I've seen from him. Aggressive in the tackle, and his passing was a lot better than lately.
Kelly 7 - solid, been a bonus him coming back and just when a spot of experience to carry us over the line could be crucial. Who knew he had it in him still!
Godden 7 - (awaits the wrath of Evo!).Sometimes good, a couple of lovely turns, a beautiful break and ball to gyokeres who was offside. he and Gyokeres still don't gel though, do they? It's so hard to mark him on a day like today because I can fully see why some might give him higher today. I dunno, maybe I should abstain on giving him a mark! Do think that forget anything else, the first choice, and most reliable penalty taker at the club should be allowed to take the penalty when it comes!
Gyokeres 8 - he does have the uncanny knack of seeming to lose the ball, then come away with it! Brave /selfish / confident to demand the penalty, but it was a really good one at least. He's super-driven isn't he.

MOTM a toss-up between Eccles and Norton-Cuffy, mainly for general involvement in the game. Proper team performance today, though. Even Gyokeres looked to pass!

Everyone played their part. Fadz MOM for me. Was everywhere. Put his head on every ball that came near him. Eccles a close second. Great finish for his first goal. Nobody less than a 7.

You scared me enought to mark his original rating up from 6! I just find it very difficult when it's a thankless task really, so it's hard to know if he's dipping out the game because of himself, or because Gyokeres is monopolising, or because we're just not very good at getting the ball to him. We won't get many strikers ever who can do what Gyokeres can and make something from nothing, so he spoils us atm too.

Everyone was decent but surprised I'm the only one who thinks Hamer was motm. Expected it to be echoing everyone else's view, personally thought he ran the show.

Most pleasing was the workrate from the entire side and Ben Wilson shithousing on that orrible fkr Hannibal.

Forgot to add mine in, I’d agree with that.

The last few weeks Eccles has really come on and looking a really decent player at this level. His best game today, regardless of the goal.

Godden, BNC and Bidwell didn’t seem to stop pressing all game. Kelly really tidy.

Everyone clearly understood what they needed to do and carried it out pretty much perfectly. We didn’t look tired even on 90 minutes, Brum looked out on their arses.

I don't think we even got out of first gear so I'm not going to rate them today, everyone had a solid game and hopefully saved enough energy for Middlesbrough

Nobody froze, really happy with that professional performance.

Norton-Cuffy was great today, he is growing into a good player.

Could have been a mauling if a few things went out way. That move where Godden dummies and let the ball run through his legs was great. Bidwells shot would have been special too

Side note, is a long throw something you can coach a player? Once again this season the opposition were using them. Seems logical to add it to our arsenal

Great professional team performance, thought we still had another gear available if we needed it. I'd give m.o.m to Norton- Cuffy, but there were 3 or 4 who could of had it.

I wish Godden had taken the shot on after his clever turn. An unselfish performance again. Thought Fadz or Norton-Cuffy were motm. Liam Kelly put in a great shift again. Two full games back to back after so long out and looking like he has never been away is a real credit to him.
Gyokeres looked like he was really struggling with an ankle injury. I thought he might not have come out second half. Hopefully nothing serious.

Wilson 7 Elite-tier game management

BNC 7 Definitely his best game for us
McNally 7 Did a good job scrapping with Juke
McFadzean 7 Did all the usual McFadz stuff…are we about to see his last few games for us?!
Doyle 8 Getting better and better, such a talented player
Bidwell 8 Oozed confidence from the start, he was excellent

Kelly 7 May not have the legs anymore but his experience is what we need in this kind of game
Hamer 7 Comparatively low-key performance by his recent standards
Eccles 8 Scored a goal and won a penalty…needs some more bite in his game but he’s a key part of the squad now

Gyokeres 8 MOTM Two types of teams in this league - the ones who make a plan to contain him and the ones who don’t. Birmingham the latter - whoops.
Godden 7 Showed maturity with the penalty shenanigans and even released Vik for the offside goal

Allen N/A

All in all one of the most complete performances of the season. Once again Robins has tweaked the way we play mid-season and we’re hitting our stride at the right time of the year. What a guy.

Teams that have a long throw specialist tend to over do it though, and seem to end up relying on it as their main attacking tactic. That's certainly the case with Birmingham. I'm also not sure its good for the development of players like Bellingham jnr, when the sole attacking aim is to play it long down the flanks hoping the opposition put it out for a throw, followed then by a long wait for the centre half to over before launching it in, and killing the momentum of the game in the process.

Some are naturally better than others, but look at Gunnarson, came from a background of playing "handball" in Iceland. Perhaps get down the local athletic clubs and recruit some javelin throwers!

Sure I read blues have only scored once this season from one of their long throws so if that's correct it's hardly the potent weapon some are making it out to be
