Sure he scored all 4 against Sunderland in League Cup game? Though a bit hazy about that myself now.

Barton is a good player, he is clearly lacking fitness and as Torchy said, he is playing in a team that has been poor overall.

I rate the lad and think he will be good for us.

We've got enough players to be wary about, Barton isn't one of them, he'll end up being a good signing.

Barton's had some good games, he's just faded along with the rest of the team. Lacking a pre-season is an issue, and it's going to take some time for him to get into his stride after that nasty injury.

It's a bit early to write of the guy who has scored the best City goal at The Ricoh for about 3 seasons!

I wouldn't be at all surprised to see Barton dropped.

He has all the ability but as the Preston fans warned us, he is lazy and doesn't track back. Apparently the very case in point at Shrewsbury on Tuesday. We can't afford passengers and this seems to be in his make-up. I really don't think Robins will be as accommodating as Andy Thorn and I think he won't stand for players not pulling their weight.

Don't think this has anything to do with fitness as he was exactly the same at Preston, drifting out of games and failing to track back.

He's a great player to have when you are 4 nil up and coasting, but when you need players to roll up their sleeves and fight to get back into games it would appear that he's not the man.

You also need good footballers, and he is potentially a very good footballer. He has good touch and technique. We don't want a team of cloggers-it's about getting a mix, getting the balance right.

Rooney, carrick, scholes, beckham, Xavi, iniesta, Messi, etc, etc are all good footballers but they also work dry hard for the team and do the dirty work.

Tbf I think deegan would have been ok at this level and it's far too soon to bigging up Fleck.

Other than the goal scored he looks awful. Stu mentioning Thornton is interesting as Barton is similar but Thornton had more natural talent.

Yes but Barton is nowhere near good enough quality wise to consider himself above doing the hard work as Taarabt was at QPR in the championship. CM is a position where you need to work hard regardless of quality anyway
