Correct. We had low number of points but the start cost us 10 points. Keep hamer get o hare fit and some good work with recruitment and we won’t be far away!!

Such a shame about O'hare, realistically how long is it going to be before he's playing at previous level.

I'll say it now and ready to be shot at if we can't keep Gus, relegation battle ahead. We are not going out and buying top players so need to keep the ones we have. Our big chance of promotion was last season when all the so called top sides of the division were shit ( bit like when Fester won Premier league)Fingers crossed I'm totally wrong but this season will be really tough as all the other sides will strengthen.
To be fair how do you know the players we sign won’t be good

He’s missed a lot of football and 2 major injuries. Don’t think he’ll be back to previous levels for a long while and he may need to change his game style to prevent future injuries.

I don't just what I think like I said I want to be up there again we all do just think last year was a season that was far better than anyone would of thought just can't see the likes of Norwich, Watford, Leeds,Leicester and a few of the so called bigger clubs having a poor season.

So on the one hand Gyokeres shouldn't be under valued,on the other some fans (hopefully the minority) decide he's not that good anyway?!?

@SlowerThanPlatt and @HuckerbyDublinWhelan both make decent points, McNair played well and is a good player. I would argue however that on the balance of play across both legs Gyökeres came out on top. He certainly did better against the Boro defence than Archer and Akpom did against ours.

As was mentioned above in this thread, let’s not pretend that he wasn’t the best centre forward we’ve had since Regis and that we aren’t going to miss him.

Yes this is also true (he’s a v goods player). Who did he get booked for fouling?
I think it was Vik. The point I was making that he was brilliant against Vik and kept him quiet for 150mins? Think he got booked around 60 mins in

of course Vik became free he started to get more involved and eventually set up Gus but for 150 out of 180, Vik was largely quiet. That was down to McNair

I am not the only person to say this but the last time we sold our top two goal scorers was selling Keane and McAllister. That fragmented a talented team, with catastrophic results.
If Hamer wants to go, the club can do little to stop it. Don’t forget McNultys recent jibe about leaving and earning 5xwages he was on at Cov. Put simply, Cov cannot compete with some other clubs for wages and breaking the wage structure is unlikely to be a tactic Doug King will do.
This is a dangerous moment, with high expectations and the potential for a weaker squad than last year.

We did have Strachan in charge though.

Don't get me wrong, it's a massive task to replace them, but we are a level lower, and our money would in theory go further in this division, along with having a half-competent manager!

What we're never going to do is be consistently successful as long as we rely on a couple of players maintaining top form with a cast of loanees who then bog off elsewhere the next season.

If hamer goes the squad will be better in terms of depth in quality

but I’d rather keep Gus and sacrifice depth in a position or two

I think the concern is about how we replace two critical players, assuming Hamer goes, as well as bolstering the defence to replace last year’s loan players

That is a good point to be fair

if We’d have had a normal start to the season I reckon we’d have got minimum 6 more points

Well of course it's a concern, only a mentalist would deny it's going to hurt.

But we are where we are, there might have to be a spot of short term pain for long term gain.

Our subsequent relegations in 2012 and 2017 both involved not having the previous season's top scorer(s)

The last one was exactly why relying on loans is bad as when they sod off, there's no compensation to fund replacements so you're hoping for lightning to strike twice.

For Thorn, read Strachan!
