Transfers 22/23 summer for first team:

In:

21st June - Kasey Palmer
11th July - Callum Doyle loan
13th July - Jonathan Panzo loan
27 July - Tayo Adaramola loan

Out:

28 Aug - Dom Hyam out

Transfers 23/24 summer:

Released players who were perm members of the first team squad till the end of season:

Rose
Dabo
Maguire
Walker

Loan players returned to parent clubs:

Panzo
Doyle
McNally
BNC
JWE

In:

1st July - Jay Dasilva

——————————

From the 1st team squad we have lost 9 players since the season finished. Out of the 9 players we had 5 loan signings.

So far in this summer window we’ve signed 1 perm signing. Suspect 3 will be loans (leaving maybe 2 for Jan window). So another 4/5 perms signing at least needed.

So 8 players at least we still needed to match the first team squad from last season end.

Well we will almost certainly sign three more defenders maybe four & possibly a keeper, think we have six decent midfielders including Hamer hopefully plus COH to come back and what happens with strikers depends on the Gyokeres situation. Not too worried month to go yet.

Yup. I’m not worried either plus Premiership clubs sometimes take a little while to approve their players moving out on loan.

What's the point of this thread apart from telling us what we already know ?

I haven't got the details in front of me but I know Dom hyam didn't leave in July he started the season with us and certainly played in the first match

So at this point last summer we had signed one permanent player, just as we have this summer. Ok the squad wasn't as thin last year but the players we've released with the possible exception of Rose wouldn't have been in MRs plans anyway.

Gyokeres is staying isn’t he @slowpoke

agreed though, think we’ll get the right players in the positions mentioned

Exactly. Possibly Dabo in the plans with Rose, but really some are making such an overreaction to dealings so far. I’m pretty confident we will have overall better quality.

For example, Tayo was shockingly shit and JWE wasn’t great either as loan players. We’ve resolved the LWB situation with Jay Dasilva as perm.

We massively over achieved last season given the squad depth and injuries .
We've cleared out players who aren't good enough to move us forward and I'm confident that the players incoming will improve us further
And also fully expect more loan signings especially in more advanced areas of the pitch

You would hope that we are a more attractive destination for prem loans now as well given the continued growth under MR.

Callum Doyle a case in point, had a great loan spell with us and is now attracting serious bids from the likes of Leicester (boooo 😭)

All of our loan signings last year were for defence/wbs which is crazy really. You make a good point, in that it would be good to get some loan talent in the attacking field. Just shows how stretched our budget was last season.

I think we have a reputation for being one of the best destinations for young loan players from the Premiership.

I don't claim to know finances but you would hope that we have moved on some big earners .
Also given the game time and success we had with BNC and Doyle big clubs will send us young players with huge potential knowing Robins will give them a chance

The moment Gyok leaves, the floodgates open for players to come in.

It's clear as day we are waiting to assess the fee.

Tbf I'd spend some budget on a top loan striker as the one area we're unlikely to be able to match up last season is Vik. I remember Villa having Tammy Abraham on loan in the champ, no reason we can't get a top top young player from a big side as I'm sure they'll trust Robins and Adi after what they've done.

I'd imagine it will be unpopular given everyone will be moaning at Doug for not spending the entire Vik fee, but I'd buy some permanent defenders, give Gus a decent contract get O’Hare and Palmer fit and add a bit of magic to complete the jigsaw. Operation Premiership back on!

Or backwards if you’re one of this people who think linear dates in the future are farther away.

And we had play offs so really a couple of weeks not knowing which league or tapping up others whilst concentrating on final. I know they'll have had plans for both scenarios, but without the same intensity early on when others were already looking at options.

Up front I would like one marquee perm signing and a top young talent from a Prem club on loan alongside Godden.

We need to make sure we have more permanent solutions in defence, as last season we had 5 on loan which is crazy.

We want to have a better spread of loan talent in various positions.

Ultimately with the Vik cash we want to invest in talent we can nurture and make into valuable assets.

The loan signings in general have been good over the last few seasons but I'd much rather see us actually having a squad of our own, Robins is having to replace half a team every season

To be fair every club does the same , okay not the same extent that we had last season but probably 3-4 loanees

I think at the level you need loans just because so much talent is hoovered up by the big clubs. I’d rather we don’t have an entire area of the pitch loaned in like with five defenders last season.

Villa had to pay something like £50k a week for Abraham, which was one of the reasons their play off final against Derby was shit or bust. Derby also had expensive loanees, including Mason Mount. If Villa had lost they would have breached FFP & could easily have gone the same way as Derby.

£2.5m out of a reported £20m for Vik seems like a gamble I'd take to get someone in of Abraham's quality.

I don’t think there’s a convincing argument for keeping any of the players released based on their championship performances. Dabo regressed after injuries, Rose never really grabbed his opportunities and put himself in a position where his performances forced him to get picked and Walker was largely unpopular with both the fan base and seemingly Robins.
We’ve upgraded JWE with a permanent Championship ready replacement, and if our ITKs are correct, extended Hamers contract and signed a versatile international to play at the back. We’d all like a couple of our loanees back from last season but if it doesn’t happen it at least shows our loan system is working well and in the main can be trusted.

We’re also being linked with signings like Kitching that everyone seems to be in universal favour of. Gyokeres will soon be sold for our record transfer fee and that will open up further opportunities.
Some of the timings might not be ideal, and of course it would be nice to have our entire squad ready for Portugal but it’s not as critical as people are making out - Don’t remember too many comments about McNally not looking ready, after he fitted seamlessly into our defence in the middle of the season despite not playing for 6 months.

At least we've got a pitch we can play on. If you consider the start we had last season its a miracle we finished where we did.

Robins should have an increased budget at his disposal now thanks to price hikes record S/TS and vik fee an added bonus when it comes in,so think we must have the targets supplied by the new recruitment team.Just a matter of time.

You would have thought with
a) Money off the wage bill for released players
b) Money for record season ticket sales
c) Money for play off run/final

We should be able to bring players in without having to wait for the Vik money, or is MR waiting to see what extra he gets from DK when Vik goes and aims for better players. It's the not knowing and the waiting that kills you
