Unsure if you get it? Don’t judge people by your own standards… Leave it at that hey?

TBF Simms and Sakamoto basically came out of nowhere. There’s been a bit about a swap deal a couple of weeks back for Simms, but basically until it was essentially done we didn’t hear anything.

I wouldn’t be surprised if a couple of our next few signings are the same.

Apart from latibeaudiere. Even Andy Turner has picked up on it now

Probably hear some news when the squad return from Portugal, until then we have to make do with rumours, gossip and forum members arranging fights.

I hate this time of year.

Is he really going to reject Luton for us?
Possibly. I don't think Luton are even going to make a fist of staying in the league tbh and i doubt they'll be chucking wages about either.

Should find put fairly soon with the gold cup ending. Also boddy did say we had 2 very close and we only announced 1 so far

Was hoping he meant 2 on top of the 1 that everyone clearly already knew about.

If we really want a guy who’s mostly famous for scoring loads at the lower levels to be one of our main strikers this season, why not just wait for Tavares to come back?

He hasn’t scored loads of goals anywhere

Not sure if this is bait, but because Tavares hasn’t scored loads at lower levels?

The U23s league is a lower level for me

Either way - it shows that he “knows where the goal is”. Does it mean he’s good enough to be one of the main men in the Championship?

Are we seriously comparing the U23s to the Dutch second division?

We aren’t going to pick up a 20 striker from a top division, they cost €24m

Have you ever been to watch our U23s? It’s like regional non-league level
yeh we need to be loaning out more. If for example we start playing Di Trolio in our U23s after bringing him in from St Albans, he's essentially going to be playing at a worse level this year than last.

We need to get better at finding decent loans for our young players, we’ve had some shocking ones over the last few years that have been a complete waste of time.

Like which ones?

I’d say more than anything it’s the quality of the young players themselves, and our squad depth that’s the issue. Anyone even remotely promising in our youth sides has been needed to fill spots on the bench. Eccles and Tyler are the only players who’ve been afforded proper development loans in the past ten years, everything else is just crowd control.

What level would we say the Dutch second division is? The only Netherlands-based poster on here said it was comparable to the English non-league.
Difficult to say isn't it, scanning through i'd recognise most those names as having being in the Dutch top division at some point, guessing its one of those where teams near bottom of top division and top of second division are pretty similar. Guess its around League 2 level with the crapper teams at the bottom being non league. Regardless his record looks impressive, especially when you consider he's playing for a team that performs poorly, the kind of player you're looking when attempting to unearth a gem for fairly cheap i suppose.
Away from that its probably not worth arguing about as its likely just a bollocks rumour but will be interesting to see where he ends up and how he gets on now we've discussed him in such length.

He's right though, towards the back end of the season it just seemed like we were turfing young players out to anywhere without any kind of plan.

Would it? We've just got 20m for Vik. If it's less than 10 million then it's worth keeping him for a season imo, he's that influential

Dangerous game, there is no guarantee a players heart will be 100% in it. It would be in the back of their minds that an injury could scupper any free move at the end of the season and leave them open to being unemployed for a period.

Sort of akin to getting a player back on a loan after a big sale (like Maddison) if their head is even slightly focused elsewhere it can lead to a big drop off in form.

As I said that isn't guaranteed, and I actually think Hamers on pitch temperament would probably mean he'd handle the pressure better than most... but it's a risk especially if the other option is generating a large fee and reinvesting in new players here for the long haul.

I might be tempted to have taken the hit and kept him if the league wasn't so stacked next season, but I think it's going to be incredibly difficult to be one of the 3 promoted teams however much investment we make. The odds aren't in our favour so unless he signs I'd have to cash in and build for the future.

None of the players we loaned out last season (apart from maybe Rus, I guess?) have any chance of bothering our first team and no loan spell is going to change that. We’re not loaning these guys out to hone them into superstars, we’re doing it to manage numbers - it doesn’t matter where they go.

Different story if we’re talking about young players who actually have a future here (Howley, Burroughs), but our squad is so small that we need to keep them around.
