I agree with you. Something isn’t adding up. We are paying big fees for players and somehow we can’t offer him a brilliant contract. He is keeping his options open till the end of the window.

If he can attract some PL interest he would get £40k a week - we are not offering that and neither should we

As much as I don’t want Gus to leave, if he does then I’m not worried. You can now all see the calibre of player and the our ability to pay for really good talent.
A note of caution: We won't sell a player for 20m every year.

Agree but then we've not spent 40m back so should be some left in the pot. Add in all of other recent income plus potential swll on for Vik and we'll be nicely set up if we don't. Having said that, if Simms has a great season with his age and potential them no reason he couldn't be a £20m sale next year.

Ok let’s get some perspective.

Daly was a great player at Man Utd but was significantly slowing down by the time he came to us.

Yorath was an old style enforcer. Truth be told he was a one dimensional Souness-type; he lacked the Souness skill and finesse but could do the robust stuff. A great signing for us but he’d be sent off in every single game these days.

Carr was a lovely player but hardly won us many games. Mortimer was sold far too early to be considered a great for us. He should have been capped for England but didn’t make it.

Blair wouldn’t get into today’s starting side very often. I look forward to people speaking of Josh Eccles in the same way in 15 years time. Powell was an effective player and quite skilful but again his influence on games was not at the level of someone who could be considered a great.

McAllister and Hadji were sublime in terms of skill and influence but the former only turned up for one of his three seasons with us (his final one) and in our best year in the Prem his injury-enforced absence (and replacement by Boateng - who himself had as many poor games as outstanding ones- made us a better team.

I liked Stewart Robson at City but he was injured every fourth game and hardly scored win his time with us. We can’t compare Hamer to players like Daly and Robson winding down their careers.

Thompson loved his time at Cov (I know this for a fact) but was injury prone and unfit when he arrived. His season for us at the level we are now at was brilliant but he’d been ineffective at the level above.

Whether Hamer can be properly compared to players from the 1970s/80s is a moot point but few of those mentioned had the influence at both ends of the pitch as he has in almost every game he plays in the championship.

When he moves on, we will suddenly noticed how effective he is I suspect.
Some fair comments. But the context is the claim that Hamer is the best City player in over 50 years (and in terms of midfield players, “by a long mile”). Surely an exaggeration.

I think he really wants to go to Feyenoord but they obviously can't afford to throw 16m our way so he'll just run his contract down and move over there to finally play for them again.

Seems like a humble guy who just wants to live out his dream.

Fair play if he does. It’s a valid option for a player to take. Wouldn’t get in the way of a player wanting to play for his boyhood club. And means we get a full season out of him to get promoted and make any fee irrelevant.

Hamer is so influential and important you have to pay him what he wants. He wants to stay you can tell he loves it here. If we loose him it could set us back years. I get the pay cap thing but it makes no sense to bite your nose to spite your face. I’d imagine all the other players want him to stay too.
Thanks Gus… shouldn’t you be getting ready for training rather than coming on here 😎
PS just sign the fecking contract man!!!

Got a Hamer update from my insider

The amount offered is what Gus was asking for. Its purely down to Gus now the reason he hasnt commited is due to the recent upheaval and changes he had with his child moving abroad etc.

He was best mates with Dabo and with Fanky and his kid now moving away hes unsure about committing himself to years at Cov, especially with his little one now hundreds of miles away hes just torn.

Loves it here, loves the club, fans, the moneys sound, just doesnt know what he wants 🤷

Cant really blame him can we. I personally can see him signing a year extension, doesnt tie him down massively and still leaves the option of going next year

Fucking hell maybe we should have kept Dabo on as Hamers mascot then.

Very odd reasoning. Guessing his preference would be to move back to Holland then if he was to move?

One year extension with a cheap release clause (say £5 million) which can only be triggered if Feyenoord bid

Lol that reminds me of when Robbie Savage said he had to leave Birmingham to be nearer to his elderly parents - and ended up moving further - but a better club (co-incidence of course)

Or John "I am staying at Coventry even if Man U come in for me" Hartson - but...but..."You can't turn down Celtic they are as big as it gets"
