To add insult to injury, currently very sunny here. Would obviously have been a minimal crowd but a reserve day would have helped in this instance.

I think it’s time to talk about Tests as a fixed number of overs (450/500) and plan reserve days. Only if you get to the end of the overs can you declare it a draw.

More needs to be done about over rate and ensuring 90 overs are bowled in a day. All countries are guilty of this.
Let's be honest, if the rain had saved England we wouldn't care about extra days, over rates etc.

The ICC or whoever is in charge should make teams bowl 90 overs in a day no matter what bowling attack is picked. The over rate can also be slowed down by the batting team and has on many occasions. Extra time should also be allocated when there is a review.

You get a 1 or 2 hour window to play, then mess about, call lunch etc.

Yes, I don't know every intricate rule, but they've got plenty of time for rest/breaks in the time it's pissing down.

Just seems backwards for a game that relies on good weather to even take place.

So they built roofs on courts to allow play...

Obviously Cricket may not be physically possible to have a roof, but extra days if a day hasn't been played etc would make sense surely? Today at OT was sunshine by all accounts.

It's not traditional, but at least the game gets played how it's meant to be if you want to do 5 day tests in England.

I'm sure crowds would turn up to see a potential outcome, draw or win, than nearly 2 ultimately key days out of 5 stopped because of rain, resulting in a draw for the test not being played in full.

A big reason is scheduling, trying to fit all levels and formats in. The Hundred starts next week so they've crammed this series in, and playing today wouldn't give them enough rest before the next test on Wednesday. Plus Lancashire have a 4 day county game starting at OT tomorrow so they'll have needed to work on the pitch.

I agree with the overall point though, if you make reserve days the norm then they will be factored into the scheduling.

Before they had roofs I've never seen them say, you know what it's raining Saturday and Sunday so we're not gonna bother finishing the match. Wimbledon has been extended into a third week plenty of times before due to Weather

Yeah stuck at it and got their rewards in afternoon session. Very good control, they’ve only got 120 over two sessions…new ball in five overs. Let’s hope we can make this count

Maybe a bit harsh on Bairstow. He’s trying to get as close to the ball coming in to minimise movement to get bails off. If he’d held gloves back the movement to get bails off mightve given smith enough time to get bat in anyway. Annoying though and will no doubt be costly
