He’s currently training with Bristol Rovers so he might need to get used to a lower salary. Whenever I have seen him play on tv he’s all hair and no action.

The next few months will be pivotal for the recruitment team. They have started scouting areas we have not traditionally been associated with. They could all be at the level and the model could be about to really take off. But there is a pessimistic part of me that thinks without Hamer and the spine with Vik and McFadz being a year older there needs to be a fluidity found quite quickly as the games will keep coming and most weeks is a big game if you want to be the right end of the table. I am really excited and I hope the new lads will hit the ground running but Gus is huge as he binds it all together and I really hope the club can agree a one year extension with a huge promotion bonus to keep it inside the wage structure.

I think the new wingbacks will end up picking up a lot of the slack if Gus leaves. And then you’d need your defensive midfielders to be a little more defensive minded if the wingbacks have a greater freedom to attack.

You're not going to find a player to replace Gus, I believe, especially not without time to develop. But you can play in a different style, where you don't necessarily need him. Worth bearing in mind that most teams play without him.

Personally as a bottom line I don’t see a problem with that. It gives us at least another 12 months with him here that’s a positive imo & and it isn’t just his ability it’s what that AND what his infectious character brings us.
If he remains adamant he wants to go elsewhere now we know the price seems to me at the moment it hasn’t been met.
As for a replacement well that’s down to our new recruitment team I could put a list on here of very good midfielders I’ve seen in the championship over last season.
If we realise a fee of around £15million we replace him, sell big, buy big if necessary
I would be very surprised if MR hasn’t got options there.

Let’s face it for 4-5m you can get a fantastic midfielder to replace Hamer. Especially if we get 12m in which I would take.

The problem is he won’t be Hamer who was the best statistically in the division last season and universally adored by cov fans.

I just dont see the logic of him signing an extension. In 6 months he can negotiate a deal as a free agent.

Hamer was the lynchpin for the team and arguably, more important than Gyokeres. What has clearly held other teams back from buying him is his temperament; that certainly affected Rangers’ interest.
It looks as if Hamer has made an unaffordable pay demand, possibly as part of an attempt to force to move, which is a pity.

Tom Davies would be an intriguing signing and add a little bit of PL experience to a Coventry squad that looks exciting but unproven. His wages would definitely be a problem. If we could afford Davies, then we should be able to afford Hamer’s demands.
