There are some players clearly not fit ......... but largely they are the players who did not get a full pre season in due to injury, not being here, or been injured since the start of the season. However the lack of fitness in the most part is not physical it is mental.
We have a bunch of players who give it a go, give what they think is 100% but when the going gets tough do not have as a group a collective mental toughness to get through. One or two like McGoldrick know they can push that extra bit, are confident from past experiences, have desire to be better and it shows.
The more senior players seem to be accustomed to failure, have become too comfortable with it, have a mind set of "whats the point we will lose any way" and it is rubbing off on the rest of the squad. Their mental weakness drains the other players and puts extra pressure & frustration on the newer or younger players
Our leaders (such as they are) in the squad are not strong vocal or confident, they work but dont believe, but that lack of belief drains all desire to do better when there is a knock back ........ it looks like they are not working hard when in actual fact physically they are ...... but mentally they have given up. Top sportsmen win games by being mentally fit ..... there is no great difference in physical fitness.
If your mind isnt at it then doesnt matter who trained you pre season, or what extra work you put in ...... you will fail against opposition that are mentally better focussed and confident
Robins has to change the mind set, and my guess is that in the not too distant future there are going to be some casualties amongst the more senior players from the decisions he makes......... not before time either.
The whole malaise has taken months even years to get to...... in that time all the players, coaches, management have contributed to it (including but not only AT).......... MR has a very tough job to turn it around and it wont be done in a couple of weeks
