I live in Sheffield and the bid is credible The stumbling block could be his wages United are notably tight fisted and owners want to sell the club.

He’ll be back in this division in a season but if £15 million would be on the table then take it and strengthen the squad further still.

Unless he goes there, plays well and brings himself to the attention of even bigger clubs here and abroad, getting himself another lucrative transfer and wage hike if they do.

Either way if we also put in a decent sell on clause there’d be a pretty good chance we see the proceeds of it in a year’s time. Time would be short to replace him but if this interest is correct and serious, let’s not mess about. Disappointing that it’s had to drag into August mind you.

It would make sense to sell if he won't sign but imo he is the most influential player we have had for 2 seasons and Sunday, when he went off, we were noticeably less assured.

I hope Dean Austin is watching videos of top class box to box midfielders we can sign for around 5 million as I type!!

I'm sure that there will be a list of alternatives in place . If the selling price is close to £15M those coming in should be of real quality .

Still prefer to keep Gus for the season.
Doesn’t look likely though as this Sheff Utd rumour might be a credible move and would make sense for him and his Premier League ambitions (Leeds Utd never on for Gus IMO)
IF and it’s a big IF someone offers even close to £15m then we have to sell. We can’t let him leave next summer on a free.

He'd genuinely be better off going to Leeds or Leicester than Sheffield Utd. He'll have no chance to shine there, they are in for a disastrous season.

I’m sure he and his scouting team have done but if equivalent players are out there for bargain money why aren’t your Sheffield Uniteds, Leeds etc signing them and if even armed with a large part of any Hamer fee we spend big on a replacement we would probably have to pay them big wages too. With Hamer we know what we have, what we get, his influence on the team AND I’ll add the fans, if it’s just down to wage demands, pay him, let all this speculation settle down and we in my opinion be a real force in this league this season.
Hamer will still be sellable at a later date.

But if it is Hamers intention to run his contract down there’s sweet f/a we can do about it.

Agreeed.

if he runs it down and we don’t get promoted it will spoil his legacy and reputation with most supporters. It certainly will for me.

Club before player, every time.

Could ask the question why they didn't sign him when we did, then.

He won't be sellable if he's out of contract!

Never, well I’m blowed.

Read what I’ve said IF it is Hamers intention is to run his contract down there is nothing we can do about it is there, other than play him.
Read what you said? "Hamer well still be sellable at a later date," that bit?

The one thing I will say about the comments about him 'not wanting' to sign a new contract...often players in such positions would throw their toys out the pram, would likely be benched, wouldn't be great to have around the place.

Gus seems the polar opposite. If he wants to move, he seems pretty relaxed about and MR does as well as he still in the squads and being picked.

Strange one.

Westwood and best never had any intention of resigning but they carried on - it puts you in the shop window

Let’s see his reaction if a club shows real intent to sign him for big wages

Ship him off to Sheff U if that is true. £15m is a great deal and way overpriced given his current contract status.
