Carl Baker believes Mark Robins has had a positive impact at Coventry City..

Coventry City midfielder Carl Baker believes new manager Mark Robins has ‘made the players smile again’ ahead of the visit of Bournemouth at the weekend.

The former Southport midfielder has been the City skipper over the last two games and has been in good form this season having already scored two goals, and claimed two assists.

With the side claiming four points from the last six, Baker hopes Coventry can claim their first home league win of the season against the Cherries.

Baker said: “The confidence has really been lifted around the place as we are beginning to pick up points and we are also getting closer to where we feel we need to be.

“I think there was a confidence issue in the previous matches but since the gaffer has come in, people are walking around the training ground with smiles on their faces.

“He has changed it around really as he has got lads smiling and enjoying training again. With the confidence lifted, the lads are going into games expecting three points now.

“It would be great if we could get our first home win in the league this weekend. It would keep that positive feeling going and with Bournemouth being without a manager at the moment, we are in a good position to take advantage of their unfortunate situation.”

After the draw against MK Dons in midweek, Robins said he wants to see his side move and use the ball better, much like the away side did in the second half.

The City midfielder is also hoping to see constant improvements in City’s passing game and says he still draws inspiration from the Capital One Cup game against Arsenal.

He added: “We know we still have a lot of work to do especially with the way we close down the ball so we aren't quite there yet.

“We also want to get the ball down on the floor more like we did for spells against Arsenal. We are constantly working on our shape and we are still realising just how much work there is to do here.

“The best thing is that every single one of us wants to work hard to impress the gaffer and that can only raise the level of performance in the starting XI.

“Everyone knows if you get in the side, you have to play well to keep it. There is healthy competition which brings a good competitive element to the club.”

Maybe he showed them the results under Shaw vs results under him. I''ve grown fond of Baker in the last few weeks - giving us the work ethic I always felt he lacked. Still has a few up and down performance but his effort has put others to shame. Hope him and the team can really push on.
