I think people are being a bit harsh on him, hasn't been too bad as some are making out, had a couple bad performances but as a team, we have been pretty bad!

Clearly has talent and it is frustrating seeing him waste it a bit but to suggest he should be transfer listed is way ott and I think he coud, should come good!

Coventry fans over-reacting about a player?! Never! I'm with you, think he clearly has talent. But hey, if you're not as fast as Usain Bolt and run round for 90 minutes like a headless chicken then you're shite.

Very talented but goes missing too often for long periods of a game. Doesn't like getting stuck in and bottles out of a lot of tackles. But I suppose that is slightly understandable considering not so long ago he suffered a double leg break and an ankle dislocation in a tackle.

He looks off the pace, which is down to the lack of preseason. I think he is talented and will be an asset when he improves his match sharpness

I think people forget he has only just returned from a near career ending injury. He shows glimpses of what he can do - but I imagine that must play with your mind a bit.

I think Barton will come good. It's the same with Jennings as well, i think they're all down on match fitness and just need a little more time.

Robins will do what he does and we'll know within a few months whether they're going to be kicked out or not!

He needs the majority of this season to get up to speed, he has the talent, just needs games and of course not for our fans to get on his back at every single opportunity.

I'll just wait for otis to quote the PNE fans.

At this moment I think he's a luxury... respecting all points about his return from a career threatening injury.. his place in the team isn't warranted at this moment. CAnt be carrying passengers.. he may have talent.. but its not with him right now?

A couple of bad performances? With the exception of the first half vs Bury and the Birmingham game he has been very poor. He's a luxury player and not the right type of player for the rough and tumble of league one football.

Personally I would move him on.

yeah but i don't blame him about tackles he had a triple leg break i don't think many would go into tackles after that

I sincerely hope he comes good. He's been very poor thus far though apart from the odd flash here and there.

Hope Robins can do something with him because at times he appears to be on autopilot and just cruising through games and then disappearing for large periods.

I personally think he would be better playing at a higher level than League One, cos I just don't think he is the sort of player for this division. If you look at what MK Dons had, they had midfielders who had good engines, were quick, moved the ball around well and also got stuck in. Just don't think that is Barton at all.

A luxury player in my opinion. I do want him to come good though. Just not convinced he has it in his make-up.

He needs players around him that will do the dirty work for him, is he worth that level of commitment though? not sure he is. If you're not part of the cure you are part of the problem. so let's sign Robert Smith.

I think he is a very talented footballer and is being asked to do things he has probably never done as a player before in respects to his style. he is still finding his feet off a lay off and due to lack of games. i think he will be good for us. Ireland Under 21 as well so clearly a bit about him.

A luxary player, perhaps, but one worth sticking with. Most teams that do well have a few grafters and a class player or 2 who can create things out of nothing.
Personally I think Barton can be that player but that does mean bearing with him while he re-adjusts. I hope he comes good anyway.

Unfortunately, you know there will always be a certain percentage of fans who will not be happy with certain players no matter how hard they try.

A good example for this is Baker who has been our best player this season. Yes he's not been great and has had the odd dud game but his effort, compared to those around him has been superb.

But despite this, Fans expect instant results and they'll bitch and wine when they don't get what they want, like moany little children. They expect the players to suddenly become the best footballers in the world.

This unfortunately isn't possible. Doesn't stop them moaning though does it!! I'm willing to give players like Barton, Jennings, Baker, Bell etc the benefit of the doubt. Players like Bell, while not having the best track record at this club, haven't had the chance to show Robins what he's made.

Baker is doing well so far and improving every game. Jennings has been injured and I think his match fitness hasn't been where it should be and thats affected him on the pitch. Barton is the same, coming back from a triple leg break, he's gone missing in matches but he now has this chance to prove to Robins he can play in this team.

In the end we have no say on what players go and what players stay. Robins does and ill trust his judgement over a bunch of moaning fans anyday lol

Not being funny here, but just how much more benefit of the doubt is there left for David Bell? :(

The problem is we have too many 'luxury' players - Baker, McSheffrey, Fleck, Bell, Moussa, Bell and Barton.

personal view is that Barton is an up and coming class act.
Watch him as he receives the ball he s always looking for the pass, unfortunately
he s usually looking forward and theres no one there. He s got a good touch and a
good football brain, shame our other players in the main do nt.

Not sure I agree with Fleck or Baker recently but I agree the rest are a bit that mold. Thankfully most won't play at the same time and hopefully we'll see the best of Jennings which will back them up.

I think he is just down in cofidence with everything thats happened to him, we need to give him a chance till least january and see if he gets back to his best. i for one would like to see him keep playing its not exactly if the team is palying brillant at the moment robins needs to get the best out what he has got and im sure barton has it there just robins needs to get it out of him and see what happens!

I'm perplexed how people are judging someone as having clear talent and class. He's slow, can't dribble, can pass but only if it's a piece of piss, can't tackle and seems knackered after about 20 minutes of jogging about. He's not really shouting I'm the total midfielder or even a little bit of one. If, and it's a massive if, he can turn it around and progress then I'm all for it but at the moment I haven't seen anything remotely decent about him.

Reminds me a little bit of jack cork who i never thought got the appreciation he deserved, would be better placed in a well performing team, clearly a talented player but certainly not a grafter. Time will tell when robins thinks he contributes enough

Disagree about the comparison, although fans never really appreciated to Cork he was a busy midfielder worked hard and always on the ball trying to make things happen. Barton plays on the periphery of the game.

What on earth was that from him today? From the sublime to the very much ridiculous.

When he plays like this he is a liability and very much a luxury player. Can't see how anyone can argue with that and there have now been a number of these sorts of efforts from him.
