I have no idea about the release clause.
However there’s a semi-interesting article on BBC sports page ATM about transfer negotiations.
They mention Suarez’s contract having something akin to a release clause, but being vague. Therefore Liverpool weren’t contractually obliged to accept Arsenal’s £40m + £1 offer.

Not saying at all that Styles has a vague comment about £2m offers. Just that it’s not always black & white.
In reality though, what’s the point of having if it’s not explicitly clear?!
