Do The First Team Players Read This Forum? (4 Viewers)

I kinda assumed we are the only ones that read this forum? ;)

"I've written a new song called 'Simm-ply the best' that we should definitely all start singing."

"Shan't - you should have passed to me in the Boro game."

"But we are all agreed on 'going loco', right?"

"Right!"

[Nobody sings it]

Calista's take seems spot on to me. You think because they are footballers they are not interested in what people are saying about them? Bound to be at least the occasional view.

I mean, they surely see comments on the club/their own instagram and twitter posts which are almost guaranteed to include low effort abuse. This place is sunshine and rainbows in comparison.

That’s different for me. One is the player walking into a pub full of city fans and eavesdropping. The other is posting shot through their letterbox and calling them a c**t while they’re out shopping with the kids.

Clearly for their own mental well being they should stay well clear, but human nature and curiosity means some will end up being made aware of comments made on here, either directly or through mates. Consequently I am uncomfortable with the throwaway 'he's shit/ lazy' type comments made on here without any argued reasoning, as it can prove counter productive to the performance and motivation of players, that might be prone to taking in social media comment. An example was Shipley who really went into his shell after being ritually slaughtered on here, and who I'm pretty sure was aware of the negativity comments made about him at that time.

I am sure players are warned / educated not to look at forums, but I’d be amazed if they weren’t tempted, and even if they don’t read it personally, both praise and criticism will seep through to them. They don’t exist in a bubble, and some (especially younger players) are bound to take things to heart, it’s human nature. It’s their career and they won’t all be cocky and sure of themselves. Some stuff on here is unfair or even offensive if you look at it in that light, and definitely couldn’t be classed as support for CCFC.

Edit: I’m not of course referring to fair criticism of performances, I mean the small minority of people who think it’s fine to abuse a player from behind their keyboard. Every squad member at CCFC (or any other professional football club) has overcome hundreds of tough obstacles to make it as far as they have, and they deserve respect for that, online just the same as in person. Making it into a Championship squad is awesome. You can’t reduce all of that achievement to saying a guy is shit.
It's an interesting point. I've always presumed this was a place where you can safely vent about the football, get things off your chest, and I presumed that players would never see it, but maybe that's changed with social media so pervasive that we should now be more careful and considered.

Let’s hope the retail department don’t read this forum, the Samaritans will be busy if they do.

I’ve a vague recollection of Carl Baker’s Mrs posting on here during the depths of the Andy Thorn days, saying that things were so dire that CB was organising his own runs etc.

Can anyone else remember that?

I’m sure there are a fair few players or their families that have a nose on here.

One bizarre one: pre match presser before Huddersfield last season; MR doing his usual spiel:

“They’ve got some quality in their side, like Kyle Hudlin”

(check it out if you don’t believe me)

Now Kyle Hudlin hadn’t been anywhere near the Hudds first team, so maybe MR was taking the piss out of whatever fool on here thought signing Hudlin was a good idea…..

He’s probably been on here all week and forgotten about the transfer window
