Transfer targets (52 Viewers)

If we'd been told we'd spend around £20m of £30m before the window, I doubt many reasonable posters would've been too critical. MR seems confident there's funds available for more. We can't buy what isn't available, or when others can pay more. Patience and perspective.

Well yes however fans should reign in their owner praise if he's only going to give back 65% of transfer fees ..

If we didn't put the money we did back in the squad would go down

I think most of us will be royally fucked off , more fucked off than we are about football shirt delays .. if we sold our best midfielder for 12-15 mill and couldn't get anybody in 3 weeks later still

I guess we need to see who’s coming in by a Friday. We don’t know who the targets are. But at the same time we won’t just spend millions on players Robins doesn’t really want.

Well that's true , but I also don't know wether he has made the hamer money available or not either .. I'm just going to be annoyed if we have to go Kelly sheaf and Eccles until January
We won't have to do that. It's quite clear funds have been made available, hence why we are looking at buying players rather than just loans.

I'm sure there will be funds in January aswell.

Robins wants another midfielder, he's said thay. And I'm confident we will.

Very reasonable post and agree.
In terms of the 30m though is that not slightly under estimating the revenue we have generated this summer?
Vik 20 and Hamer 15 alone are more than 30 and that is before you factor in Wembley and the extra season tickets.
I know some funds will have gone on infrastructure projects but I hope King will allow for a couple more to join in areas we are lacking, even if its on loan.

Clearly money is there as we’ve been bidding on players. Whatever happens I’m not sure you can blame King, unless he’s fucked up negotiations somehow. Which looking at this summer so far doesn’t seem likely. More likely it’s towards the end of the window and people know we’re desperate and have heavy pockets.

I don’t blame the club for the timing, but a lot of voices were saying we’d have planned for his departure. It really doesn’t look like it so far.

Fuckkkkk sake
Not really fuck sake , the squad needed substantial investment after losing the players we have , it received it but lets not pretend we wouldnt have struggled without it .. there is still 15 million available ..

That's a fact

We can write off a play off push this season for a start, people are way too easily pleased.

If nothing this window has taught us we no longer buy just for the sake of it . The whole window has seen a well structured plan of recruitment. We now own the vast majority of the squad , a squad which has been assembled with a long term view for once .
We probably have missed out on a few targets , possibly due to wage demands , fees , who knows but we have to trust in what we've seen. Even if it's just another loanee in midfield it will see us through to January .
I personally think we will sign another CB , hope for a permanent number 8/10 too

To state the obvious we've pretty much had to replace half the squad this summer. That has been added to by having to sell our two best players who outgrew the club. Was always going to be very difficult to completely overhaul the squad in one window. Most Championship clubs seem to want a striker before the window shuts. I'm glad we aren't in that hunt. There will be some terrible money spent over the next couple of days! Not against us waiting until January to see if we can get our main targets then if necessary.

Not sure we can , I still think of we sign a couple of good players by the end of the window we will be in an abouts again .. but I won't be happy for us to stay as we are until January
I meant if we don't make the signings we can write off a play off push

The transfer fees aren't the only thing needed to operate a football team. We've presumably increased our payroll considerably and we were a loss making business before he took over.

Besides, there's nothing wrong banking the money and either reinvesting in Jan and/or next summer. The journey our club is on is a 5 year journey, not a 'all or nothing' splurge in one year.

Well I guess we finish 10th then , il still be there next season but I'm sure the 19000 won't be

Won’t do us much good trying to blag it with Sheaf and Eccles for 4 months though
That's the concern really isn't it , I'm still hopeful we can get a couple in , but I'd be really dissapointed if we have to go to January with the current midfield options

We probably will get somebody , I'm just panicking

As much as I think it’s good to be rational and positive and trusting about the whole transfer situation, I do think there’s something to be said for getting a marquee player signed in this transfer window. The one big positive we have on our side for any potential signings is last season’s performance, we showed that we have the ability to make it to the play-off final, narrowly missing out on joining the prem. I don’t like being pessimistic about it all but I do think we have a much slimmer chance of making it to a play-off final this year than last year. If we wait and don’t finish in the top 6 then it will undoubtedly make a player think twice about joining us. That’s one massive thing we have over clubs like Norwich or Milwall or Boro etc atm, we can say to players “if you join us there’s a very good chance you’ll be playing in the prem next year”, I could be massively wrong but I don’t think we’ll have the luxury of saying that this time next year.

I think King should be striking whilst the iron’s hot, whilst there’s momentum and positivity throughout the club, whilst there’s 19,000 season ticket holders. Fair play it’s a very ballsy move saying “no I’m prepared to wait” but I’m not entirely sure it’s the right thing for us atm.
