Godden has played best when operating as the lone front man, in League One with the box formation, and (when he was fit) back n the Championship. Godden, supported by O'Hare & Palmer next season wouldn't be too shabby, although if Vik goes then there will be a new first choice striker I am sure. Robin's persistence with playing him with Vik (and out of position) is because we have no AM's. Godden is a fox in the box, and a clever footballer. He's never going to look good chasing balls down and competing for flick-on's miles from the box.

The problem is Godden gets injured every dozen games

12 consecutive games is his longest spell of being available while he's been here:

I don't feel like I can judge Godden this season, it's clear that Plan A was O'Hare behind Vik then Plan B was Palmer behind Vik. I'd imagine Godden was penciled in for a support role off the bench. He was then injured for ages and by the time he was fit he was suddenly 1st choice in a system that doesn't really suit him.

Vik is such an anomaly ofa player I don't see anyone who can replace him fully. But there is no denying that Godden is still the best finisher at the club and that is a hard skill to replace too

Still seeing people clamouring for him to be dropped despite 3 in 5 . Claims he doesn’t do enough off the ball. I’m more than happy for Wright to do allllll of Godden’s running if he’s striding onto the ball and bending it into the back of the net like he did for the equaliser.

Clubs throw endless cash at players who can stick the ball in the back of the net and he’s absolutely the best we have when it comes to that.

To be fair to Godden he keeps delivering goals - there are lots of computer based science around players but godden i suspect defied the science
Haven't seen the penalty save yet but lovely strike today for his goal and much more of the position I'd love to see him in running in to the penalty area for the cross to be played to him rather than further in to the box. Think he will score a hat full if he keeps that up. Wright can create a significant number of chances.

We're also at a point now where even goals are not enough to satisfy the mob on twitter .. I actually think people don't understand football infact I don't think I know.. a goalscorer will always be a hard thing to find .. any striker that can score a goal every 2 matches is worthy of a starting place Irrespective wether they miss 1 or 2 chances a match ..

For some it's become a weird ick they can't shift .. Matty godden 3 goals in 5 games , drop him 🤣🤣🤣

It’s a weird one, he’s always going to score goals when presented with chances and on that basis you have to keep him in the team, but on the flip side his all round game is so poor. Scoring goals will always be the priority so he has to stay in the side, but there will be games this season where he doesn’t get the chances and it’ll be like playing with 10 men.

Also, Simms has shown absolutely nothing to suggest he deserves the shirt so far.

The new strikers have probably meant he's raised his game to a certain extent and he's made himself very hard to drop. Fair play to him.

No what's weird is fans insisting that when godden doesn't score , its like playing with 10 men .. here's why .

I specifically made a point of checking how many touches most striker are having in this league per game and for the most part pretty much all the strikers are having between 18 and 30 touches per match ..

Godden had 20 today , would those extra 4 or 5 touches have propelled us as a team ?

The argument makes no sense

I’m not a modern day football scientist but given our midfield issues could we play Wright, Simms and Godden together and go more direct. Bypass midfield and this backwards, sideways possession altogether

Will keane Preston MOTM 20 touches , do we think preston fans think they're playing with 10 men if he doesn't score 🤔

4 goals in 5 games

Our fans are strange honestly

Mate, your views pretty much align with mine, but when your trawling Will Keanes stats for Preston it's time to call it a day!
You'll still have convinced no one come the morning, but you'll still be right!

He needs to take more photos 📸, that's the key to fan love ..

I agree , no more interacting on this subject

Modestly positive from you. Agreed. For once.
Let's not forget how much he moaned about us giving Godden the contract before last. And Sick Boy has been moaning about him almost non stop ever since.

Great goalscorer (despite a missed penalty and about 10 chances at Leicester) but I still think at some point this season he'll lose his place.

I think we'd do better with an extra man in midfield and, despite his improvements this season, would not want Godden up top alone.

I think the real key to the godden debate would be what we're those 20 touches like. They definitely wernt as good as Wright's touches today for e.g but that don't mean they were lost possession touches either

I can't be arsed to go back and watch whole game to check. We didn't lose. He scored. Move on for now.

Wright's a totally different type of player to be fair.
And one who is looking more impressive each game.
Another hook up between the 2 of them for the 3rd goal as well........
