The problem with Godden is he contributes little to team play. 10 assist in 120 games, often anonymous and isolated.
That costs the team. Although it’s hard to quantify.
Did you not watch the game Saturday? He flicked a header on that put simms clean through .He's shot from outside the box resulted in Eccles scoring he got in position for two tap-ins and did not receive the ball and you say he costs the team ?

He can't set them up as he's scoring them. 47 goals in 123 games for us.

Add on those 10 assists, 57 goals/assists in 123 games is nearly a goal contribution every other game. I suspect there's not many strikers currently in the Championship that can match that.

16 of those goals were not scored in the championship. He averages 8 or 9 goals per season in the championship, including some pens.
With very few assists.
At the minute I’d certainly play him ahead of Wright. He’s certainly earned that. But he has plenty of flaws in terms of being a good team player.

Ps. Godden was #41 on the Chanoionship striker list last season and #22 the year before.

Well we were not killed in the stampede of championship clubs looking to prize him away when we spent £10m on 2 strikers. Lg1 Derby was the only rumour.

Godden is a very good championship finisher and a lg 1 all round striker.

When he’s fit and firing his goals make up for the other deficiencies …. When he’s not firing he’s a passenger. That’s why he divides opinion.

But he is firing and has been all season. There shouldnt be a debate around whether he starts next game in all honesty.

True but he was out injured a lot of the time. Whatever his shortcomings Godden does have a good eye for goal.

I remember when Micky Quinn was our hero but he wasn't noted for his workrate or for providing assists :D

That’s an interesting comparison .

The game has moved on so much from then. Micky couldn’t run but neither could the defenders he played against !.

Knowing MR, he’ll stick with Godden until he’s injured. Note that I said ‘until’, because he’s putting in 90 minutes consistently, and it can’t be too long until his ankle gives way again.

Would be fairly happy to see the same team as Saturday, to be honest.

Prediction-wise…I think we may sneak this one, 0-1. If Thomas has his thinking head on. 👍🏻

Some of the stuff said about wright and Simms on this forum is nigh on bullying Clint.

Godden doesn't get the vitriol. Not from many anyway(no one should)
Total bollocks.

If you come to a club in the championship with a premier league or international level pedigree, and a multi million pound price tag, you've got to settle and show you can do the basics right very quickly.
Simms had a pre season here and should of hit the ground ready, but that display at Exeter was truelly shocking, and it continued into the start of the season.
There's taking time to settle and gel, and there's just not performing!

As for Wright he got a goal and an assist which got him up and running, but the fact that he can trap a ball further than I can kick it is very worrying, especially for a guy who cost over £7m. If he was a free from non league we'd say he wasn't good enough based on what we've seen so far.

Both need to step up quickly if they are to be worth their place. Hopefully Simms will be a different player now he's scored and finally got that monkey of his back.

What is unacceptable is the reaction from a few on here to what is justifiable criticism.
Words like "hatred" and "bullying" are pathetic, sometimes people need the kick up the arse.

It's weird with Godden. I am always happy when he scores and I really want him to do well but for some reason, despite his goals over the years, I have never regarded him as a hero or a favourite. I can't put my finger on why that is. I think maybe others are the same. He's definitely a good finisher but maybe it is those games when he isn't involved which colour my opinion. I also agree that 5 league goals and being second top scorer in the division makes him worth his place. If he goes another 3/4 games without a goal or assist then maybe we can consider dropping him but injuries aside I doubt that will happen.

Doesn’t justify its own thread and the ticket office/club twitter are ignoring me.

My daughter wants to use her JSB voucher to bring a mate for a quid on Saturday. If I get there early and go the ticket office tonight will they be able to sort it?

I’m sure I saw somewhere once that they only deal with match tickets for that particular fixture on match-days but may have imagined it or it may have been during one of the many season ticket fiascos.
