Cheers lad.

Let's try and sort something out.

Hey @shmmeee, your decent at pc stuff. Do you have access to a decent server?

What you building?

The GUI for any league has already been built... . Just need to run the site in the style of a Stat God...

Completely thankless job on here but you are making a positive contribution to Coventry as a whole

Interested?

And to be honest with everyone, the club and council need to work together. And now that one of the major roadblocks has been removed there is no better time to do this.

So just web hosting or some kind of app element? Is it just computing weekly/daily then displaying stats?

To be honest schmmeee we probably need a closed forum as well.

And if you are as good as I think you are, then this shouldn't be any problem. And, we can't take away any positivity that this site (SBT) offers. I think even though the negativites that this site brings to the local media. It is essentially a force for good.

I know from previous posts that you would of gone into sport science if you had the second chance, then this could well be your next step.

I think we could have a lot of people with the necessary skills that use this site who would want to contribute to any part of this project, if it gets off the ground.
It would need though to be built l under the ideas of Perpetual beta - Wikipedia and

Web 2.0 - Wikipedia

The advantages we have is that we have someone who ran the servers for the national Chess federations when they first tried to test this new model out. The knowledge is pretty unique 😎

In the basics though, all it is setting up the fixture list when there is a game, and then adding the results to the main site and also an other site, which gives the visual representation of what going on in the league, and then giffing the information you need from another site. The technology has never been close enough for one site to do this.

It's not too hard, a little time consuming though until you have the hang of it and then the ideas of finding workarounds start to save time.

There is a hell of a lot more to do though. We just have a basic idea to run multiple leagues in the new Glicko-2 format.

It has though, so much potential, it is scary. I can almost guarantee that no other football club in the pyramid or federation has this knowledge, and this gives us a huge advantage which we can exploit to the fullest advantage.

Is this again just giving football clubs Elo ratings? Seems like a lot of effort for little gain.

Ah, Brighton, good to see you are still here. I would actually make a few changes to what I was playing with.

For player (individual ratings) I would actually tie in glicko-2 with home advantage. Instead of just using elo

. I would reckon with the stuff I've been running here that there would be over 10% better accuracy in ratings.

Think we can blow anything ellae out of the water without even trying.

If you remember Chris Andersons book,.. "The Numbers Game", he talked about that he had a way of of objectively measuring individual ratings ie value, without giving further information.

I believe I can go one better by putting the technology together to see if this is true or not. 🤔

He did give Glicko-2 a decent write up in the book, and why not 😂

Yes but what is gained from an alternative ratings system being applied to football instead of the league table?

Despite its shortcoming as a raw tool for normalising disparities in games played in the league it worked out pretty well. Where it got hilariously bad was using team results to rank players. You’d need to find better ways to rank players but I’m not sure you can in the way a simple WLD does.

For hosting it seems like a short run batch job that needs to spin up and run when there’s new data, daily at most. Then a static site serving up the latest and whatever else you want. I’m guessing it’s fairly basic tabular data so could be stored in a hosted DB or even just updating a CSV on S3. Build something in Python like a lambda that scrapes the data/pulls from an API if there’s a reliable free one, then runs the algorithm, updates the ratings and drops them in a CSV. You could run this locally yourself to save hosting costs.

Static HTML site then reads and displays the CSV with standard JS graphing libraries. All seems fairly straightforward. If you want a forum then you’ll need to host that too using something like xenforo, but you’d be better off building community on twitter/FB first to show there’s a need IMO. Maybe not.

DM me some plans and I can probably knock something up

I’ll have a look when I get the chance. Though I only have access to a Mac so if it’s a windows program I’m screwed. Looks like Linux to me tho.

Yep Linux, Just been looking around the interface. 100% FICS coding on the server, which means all the stuff that we need is there but is currently set to the off position and not showing :D

Elo implemented, There's no access to the command line for users. No help files. Sparse and barren land to say the least.

This is perfect.

Just to give some information on what Schmmeee is trying to install.

It is not the site, that's if it comes with one, in which we are after. It's the complete framework of the coding on the ICS.

Some brief history is below.

It has very decent pedigree.
