Does Robins lack ambition ? (10 Viewers)

Robins has made many great changes , that's why we won so many late points in recent years
I just think this season the changes have been a bit flat, I suppose we’ve had a fair few injuries but generally this season I felt the changes were lacking of a bit dynamism (for want of a better word), lots of like for like changes, whereas yesterday I thought we tried something different with our subs and it definitely kept the tempo going.

Robins has made some mistakes the signings haven’t hit the ground running it will take time but signed too many defenders and not enough midfielders the squad is unbalanced

did robins really think Kelly and palmer would play all season?? The injuries have hurt us but we are a midtable side looking up and rebuilding a bit, I’d rather be rock bottom in the prem tho! Was always gonna be a hangover from last season

we’ve lost twice so are hard to beat turn a few draws into wins up the league we go we’ll improve
I think Robins signed players as they became available, I’m sure he had midfielders and strikers in his sights but for whatever reason didn’t happen.
As for this signing too many defenders are you forgetting counting returning loans five left in the summer add to Hyam who left earlier the only ones left were Bidwell and a 36 year old McFadzean

5 centre backs who are all first Teamers is too many especially now we are crippled in midfield

And yet Allen, Ayari, Sheaf, Kelly, Eccles, Palmer is too few first team midfielders, apparently.

That's not even counting O'Hare!

Kelly and palmer were never ever doing a full season

Allen we weren’t sure if he was going to play again

robins had to have seen this coming, we didn’t need kitching we needed a centre mid

As if it's an either/or, we don't sign a midfielder so we're not allowed to sign Kitching, and see ourselves short in defence just because we don't believe we can sign a defender without adding to our midfield!

We've only got three forwards atm too, whilst starting two of them...

It's not too many at all.
5 going for 3 positions is where we should be.
Being short in midfield is a separate issue and one that needs addressing.

20million quid and having an unbalanced squad is a problem

I think you can safely say Kelly and palmer are done

I’m not digging anyone out but all 5 centre backs at club deserve a start for different reasons and they can’t all play

People love a pile in on here, but I think it is fair game to ask questions of Robins when it comes to substitutions and game management. He does get it wrong, and whilst a fantastic manager, sticking with this formation through hell or high water and refusing to change it at any stage could be seen as a bit one dimensional, and a worthwhile criticism.

When does he change the formation?

We are 5 at the back permanently.

Back 5, with a couple of notable exceptions he has stuck to, yes.
But he's changed the midfield and forward formations fairly regularly.

I'm not sure playing 2 CBs is a good idea given it would mean either playing Fadz as one, not a good idea, or dropping him, also not a good idea.

So I'm not sure theres much wrong with keeping the back 5.

It never ceases to amaze me how many can't grasp that one injury, one suspension, and any fit centre back we own is playing regardless of form.

Meanwhile one of those can, we're told, play CM as well, so if we count him in there we have EIGHT of the buggers!

We are better off points wise now than we were this time last season, with basically a new team and some of our better players out injured. I agree we have probably chucked away 4/6 points but that’s probably the price of bedding in new players.
We will get better.
Like for like matches against the same teams (assuming Burnley = Leicester) we are 3 points down on last year. Played a lot of away matches early on last year. Still think we are a job in progress and missing the injured players.

Usually the players coming on are not as good as the ones going off. Just fresh legs. Yesterday the players who came on were usually in our first choice team. They had been rested due to 3 games in a week. You would expect them to make a difference and they did.

He changed our entire way of playing midway through last season to respond to the lack of squad depth, and took us to the play-off final.
I don’t think he’s stubborn or refusing to change, but maybe not quite so knee-jerk as some fans.

Yeah exactly, I thought the subs actually made a big difference yesterday, the depth we’ll have when O’Hare, Sheaf and Tavares are all back will be pretty special.
(I realise Tavares is not as high profile as those other two but I still think he could have a part to play now and again up front.)

When you're leading 1-0 with seconds to go I'd say caution is very much the order of the day.
Not sure. How often over many years have we seen City try to hold onto a win, only to be pegged back late on. There is also an argument to say that Robins bringing subs on during added time cost us the win against Huddersfield, as their goal came during ‘added’ added time. Rather we attacked and kept the ball in their half.

I do hope Obikwu gets a decent chance this season, thought he looked as if he he’d something about him at Exeter. Going to be difficult given the money we’ve spent on forwards.

I don’t find him a tactically brilliant manager and often I think he’s a little slow to react in games. I do think he’s a great man manager, knows how to build squad spirit and is excellent at improving raw players, which is one of the reasons I’m not worried about our new signings this year. He’s got Viveash for the tactical side anyway. They’re a great combination.

2 things.
1. It was a friendly
2. It was against forest green rovers

I've saw plenty of Obikwu to say that he definitely isn't ready for championship football yet.

We have drawn 6 matches this season giving us 6 points. We would have been better to have been less cautious, won2, drew 1 and lost 3…. Giving us 7 points.

yesterday with Norwich barely getting out of their own half we played 3 centre half’s , even bringing on Binks to freshen up that back 3. Why ? Who were they all supposed to mark ??

We could have brought Godden on in addition to Wright and Simms, we could have thrown on Ubika, but instead we added Joel and Binks …

In the end a Norwich own goal got us a much deserved point, frankly we deserved 3, but when you are at home and dominant surely we need to be less cautious, less rigid to a formation and crank the pressure up another notch or two ??

I am just glad some of our fans are not in charge of the team.

A bit to go yet, he has potential but top end of the championship is a big ask. I actually think he might have got loaned out but with only three strikers and Taveres still injured Robins had to keep him here.

I'm not sure why people want to change it , it's given us year on year improvement.

We've changed to 4 at the back a few times in recent years and it's always ended up being turgid

It's like asking Jurgen klopp why he doesn't change from 4 ATB , but he's played variations of 4ATB ..

We've played 343 , 3412 , 3421 , 532 , 5212 , 5221 , 541 .

We've changed up plenty
