The angle doesn't help, his trailing leg catches him not the leading one, he was going for a block not a tackle I think. In reality he barely touched him.

I get what you mean, it probably falls under the auspices of "not clear and obvious" although I do think it was.

Maybe they were deploying a different application of the laws. There was a elbow in the head at some point that looked a bit iffy too. I don't recall fully due to cider!

Maguire may have tried to touch the ball but he didn't and his action didn't affect anyone else so goal should have stood for me. VAR is only there for clear and obvious errors allegedly. It took over 3 minutes for the refereeing team to come up with a decision. Before we know it VAR will be used by these clowns to decide if a player's hair was offside and whether it should be a corner or goal kick.

Isn't the motion towards the ball itself enough to be counted as interfering though? Genuinely don't know with offside any more!

With the Newcastle goal VAR should surely have only been used to check there was no handball or offside before it was put in the net. It's not there to check if the ball went out of play or if there was a foul as that is up to the referee and linesman.
