Michael Doyle, 300 ish Champ games, capped at international level was nowhere near the level of Josh Eccles.

You funny.
You seriously think Doyle was even remotely as good as Eccles? Hudlin level of ridiculousness.

Eccles has been one of our best players this season.
We’re 20th.

Josh is improving all the time but of the midfielders we’ve had in the champ this time round he’s average at best. Not saying he’s rubbish just we need top level midfielders to progress. One day he may be but not yet.

I had this debate with someone else the other day, I just don’t get it. I could be missing something and that’s fine, happy to be wrong, but I don’t see what Eccles has done that means he’s been our best player this season.

I get that he’s played a lot of minutes so he’s physically contributed a lot, fair enough, but in terms of quality on a per minute basis I’d easily put Binks, Lati, Simms, Sheaf and Sakamoto above him. I think we’ve had to play Eccles as we’ve got no other defensive midfielders to play, he’s alright but nothing special.

Well we've seen yesterday that he knows exactly how to stroke the Ball goalwards and then someone prospering from that

Yeah tbf to him he had a decent game from the bench yesterday, and I don’t dislike him, I just question his consistency in the long term. At the very least, and I think we can mostly agree, he shouldn’t be taking corners.

Hes played his role in an underperforming team very well , nothing more nothing less . He's not Gus and never will be but he is a very competent number 6 that would grace most sides in this division

Yeah fair enough, I’m still on the fence about him but I’m willing to give him a chance (not that my opinion means anything 😂), he looked decent last game so fair play to him. I don’t dislike him but he’s not my favourite player either. Always good to keep our opinions open though, I find too many people on here have strong opinions and are never willing to change them, fair enough I suppose, just not my personal outlook on things.

Also I would go as far to say he was the one player we missed most when Preston were cutting through our midfield at will
I doubt we would have lost the match had Eccles started, but I can understand why Robins would have wanted to rest him.
