For all this notion of the BBC not being impartial and left leaning, you might be interested to know that 8 BBC journalists have written a letter complaining about the BBC's pro Israel stance during this current war.

As for this stabbing incident, it seems an awful lot of people jumped the gun and to conclusions over there, listened to rumour and gossip on social media and went out on the streets to protest/cause trouble.

The perpetrator is seemingly a Irish citizen who has been in the country for 20 years .

I always think the sensible option is to wait until facts come to light and find out what really happened before simply jumping to conclusions.

Not much sense to be found these days though unfortunately.

We don't know if this was terror related or a mental health issue.

Best to wait and see rather than start polishing the pitchforks and frothing at the mouth, which many have clearly done.
Otis. I did see the BBC thing and it really does just confirm that although they are supposed to be impartial they aren’t and haven’t been although anyone watching their reports and bulletins could see that. It did amuse me as the report came out just as I was ‘rambling’ on about it earlier in the thread according to a couple of posters🤣.

I understand waiting for the facts to come out before reporting but my issue is with the language used when they are reporting in a lot of instances, not just the Dublin incident.
Part of the problem is that stuff is out on social media before the news in a lot of cases and people can see things for themselves rightly or wrongly before it’s reported.
This really puts more emphasis on the media to report things clearly when they do publish it to stop any ambiguity or misinformation.

For what its worth, if I hear or see something on social media or the news I’ll try to do a check on the other and usually find the truth or the root of it somewhere between the two. Plenty of people can’t or don’t which means only helps polarise opinions or views.

A lot of stuff reported in rhe media at the minute reminds me of the political spin doctors trying to twist things with their choice of words.
I used the reporting of Gaza to highlight this as its so clear.

For what its worth my money is on mental health issues for Thursdays attack as no sane person would do what that bloke has to 5 and 6 year old kids or any other human being for that matter.

As for the far right protesters, yes there were undoubtedly a few causing trouble but kids on scooters and chavs carrying boxes of trainers out weren’t them. The same could be said for a lot of ordinary people who attended the remembrance ceremonies but a lot of them were labelled far right too. I really don’t think it’s helpful.

But there is a problem right there isn't there?

SM reaction is instant. The news companies try to gather information and put it all together and that takes time. We have to allow the news agencies time to ascertain the true story

They publish or broadcast the wrong information and it can get them in trouble.

Using the BBC and Sky News as an example, they had to report something on the Dublin stabbings didn't they. They couldn't NOT report it. They are reporting while they are still trying to put together what has happened and whilst gathering facts.

That makes it much harder to report things with clarity and you can see why they temper their words and what they reveal to the public

So many these days get their facts from SM don't they. Stolen election in the US, anti vaxxers, Black Lives Matter, the Tommy Robinson like reaction to a Palestinian march etc

I am constantly reminded of the story back in 2020 when an angry mob attacked the home of a paediatrician, misinterpreting the word and believing him to be a paedophile.

That's truly how dumb some people can be unfortunately.

We still do not have a name, seems the Police have been around to where he lives, there is a picture of him pinned to the ground, seems very odd that something has not been said, his friends, neighbours, family? not questioned.

All the comments I have seen is that he is Algerian, and some information on his past history but no mention of where this came from.

The problem the Media/Authorities have is that if it turns out to be true and they have been hiding it well, does not look good. How long can they sit on it?

The one in Vegas a few years ago that was a nutter with a gun he couldn't care less who he killed, not a hate crime just spray and pray.
Fucking hell. Terrorists in general couldn’t care less about who they kill.

It takes less than a minute to find plenty of evidence of a growing far right in Ireland, theres been several incidents involving them.

Im going to go out on a limb and say his investigative prowess is one par with that of his doppeleganger.

Well they've both made it to Wikipedia! Nice to see conspiracy theorists being pushed here anyway. I haven't even looked at it, no idea if he'll end up right or wrong, but he's as worthy of airtime as Piers Corbyn

Well he said there's no such thing as the far right in Ireland, so hes wrong.
You can argue all day about how many were involved in the riots the other day, I wouldn't know but that they exist is beyond doubt.

Connor McGregor is becoming a bit of a figurehead for them.
Accused of multiple sexual assaults, beat up a pensioner and hangs round with members of the countries biggest drug cartel who recently flooded Dublin with a bad batch of heroin.
Again, I'll go out on a limb and say he concern for his fellow citizens isn't genuine.

There were about 500 people and half of them were kids who just wanted to smash things and nick so nikes, the pictures back this up.

Ireland does have a far right, it always have. The current lead government party's first lead was a fascist who fought in Spain for Franco.

It should have more of a far right issue though, there's a sizable conservative catholic minority who are politically homeless since the main parties moved to a more progressive ideology, this plus the extreme poverty and high living costs should have people flocking to them.

Luckily they are are such weird looking folk i guess people look and go "fuck that"

I'll say yet again, people who want to be associated with violence and destroying other people's property are clearly mad! Any respectable righty would be keen to call that behaviour a rogue element too, not be annoyed the police haven't classed them as violent racist bigots while they were at it!

Worth a watch.

Thing is there, he says most that came on to the streets were law-abiding citizens, but weren't they only out on the streets because of the story spreading all over social media?

Has to be because of what they heard on social media, surely.

Hoards of people don't usually go out on the streets and protest every time anyone is murdered or there is a terrorist attack.

Seems to me that they came out on to the streets because they believe the perpetrator was a foreign national/refugee/immigrant.

So I'm reading a post and then note 'seems to me' and suddenly I'm distracted and have Candle in the wind going round my head. I have the attention span of a toddler these days!

I totally agree Otis...and I'm aware that Ben Gilroy is "far right" i just shared it so you could hear that it was actually an Irish man that initially disarmed the murderer (y)

Does going out on the streets automatically make them non law abiding?

(Obviously, a lot weren't who were causing trouble)

If that is indeed true, then it really should have been reported.

I've noticed McGregor keeps talking politics recently. Wonder if he fancies himself as the next celeb turned politician.

But when there's a murder, usually people don't all pile on to the streets do they?

It makes them attention-seeking social media bandwagon jumpers usually, doesn’t it?

Yes it does. Especially when they are attacking police, looting etc. It looked to be people just using an incident as a reason to kick off and hide behind it as an "excuse".

Although if it's on here some of you have to check what colour they are to see whether it's ok.

George Floyd got a lot on the streets didnt it?
He did, and tbf just about everybody was determined to distance themselves from Abu violence, not be distraught they weren't classified as being part of it!

So it means they aren't law abiding? Better put that on the BLM thread.
Why were they on the streets? Protesting? Protesting against what?

There were trouble makers obviously. What were the law-abiding ones on the streets for? Genuine question.

I'm not saying everyone was causing trouble, but why were people piling on the streets? The only conclusion surely is because they heard it was a refugee/Albanian/Algerian (both the same aren't they)/ immigrant/ foreign national.

Using your logic, people on the streets over here because of a bloke being killed thousands of miles away were non law abiding.

That's not my logic at all. I am asking why they were on the streets.

They were angry. What were they angry about? People actually had placards with "I am angry" written on them .

The bloke said the vast majority were law-abiding. There seemed to be an awful lot of violence. I am just puzzled as to why there was so much violence yet the vast majority were law-abiding.

Again, genuine question, were the rest just watching?

He did. But it's not the norm
It's the normal every time a black person dies, my cousin was killed by police a few years ago and there's was protest over him but I didn't attend because the psycho was on his drugs acting like a lunatic Got stunned and died.
