Almost up to half as bad as 2002/3 and 2003/4 now and that was when we had a growing, buoyant economy not post financial crash. I agree though it appears that car thefts were down a lot more under the coalition than both Labour before it and Tories since
Joking apart, I honestly can’t believe that we had a such a bigger car theft issue back then than now.
Ps I also know austerity wouldve negatively impacted police numbers and you’d think increased crime rates* but looking at the percentage of solved cases, in a country which has the most cameras per person/surveillanced in the world bar China, it’s an embarrassment
*crime rates were actually higher in early/mid 2000s than now but I think probably less gets reported these days as most know the police will do fuck all

What's the actual numbers, it's nothing new to me I've regularly been charged at the top rate for years, I've had one new screen across twenty years because drunkards, penalised for the address, being older now it's doesn't resemble a clean record of at least 30 yrs.

Its mostly a technology thing TBH. Same with phones, there’s been similar falls elsewhere in the world because it’s just harder to steal and sell on than it was 20 years ago.

The reason insurance companies give, is that being involved in an accident which isn't your fault, seemingly increases your risk of being involved in a future accident.
I know that sounds completely ridiculous, but that's the justification used.
Shop around is the only advice I can give you mate - there's usually a cheaper price out there somewhere. Can be worth a haggle on the phone too...

More likely people who are hit fall into those who will go to insurance and those who accept off the books. I went off the books and got burnt and now will always go through insurance to save the hassle.

Seems like the real story there is parents not trusting own brand baby formula and branded formula makers absolutely reaming them for it.

I'm not sure it is the real story. Who didn't know that long established and heavily marketed brands are often preferred over own brands? Especially for things like baby formula?

Well as the article says, people are switching down for other products but specifically not baby powder. So the price increases elsewhere aren’t as successful. I think people are less rational with this stuff. GF is always talking about people rejecting generic drugs despite them being chemically identical to the branded ones.
Elsewhere people seem to have been sensible enough to not buy branded stuff where they don’t need to and those being gouged are almost certainly those that aren’t price sensitive and can afford it. As the article says profit per unit is up but sales are down so the manufacturers probably aren’t better off, they’re just getting money from those who can afford it.
Unlike baby powder makers.
