If memory serves, like Leon McKenzie who was signed at a similar time he also had some personal problems going on which were later well publicised.
Indeed. And I suspect the vitriol directed at him didn't help!

In about 25 years of going to watch CCFC I can’t remember more hostility towards one of our own players at a game than Kyle against Burnley. People were genuinely cheering his red card…
I saw virtually the entire away end at QPR pleading for the ref to give Tim Sherwood a 2 Nd yellow card when we lost 4-1 at QPR . Sherwood clearly did not give a toss as his performance that evening was dire.

I think when he joined us he was 35 ? However he seemed to play like he was 55.
Mike McGinnity told me ("between these four walls") that we didn't give him a medical as we knew he'd fail it, but we needed a 'name' signing so he was coming in whatever!

L1 and L2 days saw some poor players. Ramage, Henderson etc. We also had some hard luck stories like Andreu and Hreidarrsson. But our scouting has had blips going back a very long way. I started going late 70’s / early 80’s. Scouting flops have to include Drinkell, Robertson, Evtushok, Lamptey etc. No-one gets it right all the time.

Atkinson bought Lamptey at Villa then brought him here after he joined us. Nothing to do with scouting.

For some reason myself my brother and cousin were summoned to see old Red Nose McGinnity once ( my brother had written to him saying we were not happy about the sacking of Eric Black and getting Peter Reid in ). Peter Reid was also there and quite a nice guy, talked to us about cricket and offered us beer. Red nose just said we don't need " fans like you" .We just said we've been here before you and will be here after you've gone lol.

Kyle Lightbourne, Julian Darby, that Italian keeper who plays one game in the 5-1 league cup defeat at Tranmere . The list is endless.

People weren't sure (and some still not) about Haji Wright but just seen this on the Opta website that is eye-opening. That darned xG again :p

He’s going to get better as well . He’s settled into the side now , he knows his role and you can see his body language is a million times better than it was . Great to see him smiling compared to one of the early games when he was subbed and was sat in the dugout looking completely lost and crestfallen

Wonder how much is CoH's return ? Heard Cal comment that they'd been practising goal celebrations together and saw them trying something after Cal put away the second goal from a Wrighty feed. Only a small thing but an extra buzz around a workplace can lift everyone to new heights.

They weren't practising goal celebrations, they were practising linking up down the left. That's why they celebrated like that because something they were doing in training paid off in the game.

To be honest, that sounds far more likely than what I thought I'd heard him say (y)

Who was the massive Jamaican forward who ended up in prison, played around 2004/5

Haji is a player I've been very negative about, I'll admit that. I've never written a player off before. The last half dozen games or so, it seems to have clicked with him. I want a lot more from him but I'm more confident that will come now.

He is getting stuck in and not waiting for things to happen for him. I cheered when Sunderland was on the break and I see Haji bomb into the screen. Win the ball, lose it :ROFLMAO: but then win it again. Yes Haji!!!!

I'm not getting over excited but it's great to see and he is worlds apart from the start of the season.

The only negative I can throw at Haji is that I do get concerned when teams attack us on our left. Wrighty isn't defensively minded and while Bidwell is a cracking LB, he can't do everything himself. Wright does come back to help but it's not his strength. But in those situations, I prefer Bidwell to JDC, 100 times out of 100. Once Wright gets subbed (for whatever reason), that can realise Bidwell and JDC can come on for his mixed defending/attacking prowess.

Generally Allen does a lot of the covering for wright I think when they get down our left.

had a hand in all three goals yesterday - took out O’Nien (well, was taken out by him) to allow o hare to get in, cracking assist for the second and held off the defender for palmers.
I agree his demeanour seems more confident - it’s coming with him. Exactly what robins has said about him finding out about the league.

he’s got the ability and pace that’s more than enough for this league.

In a weird place with him right now where on the one hand he’s clearly settling in, playing well and looking like our most dangerous striker. And on the other hand, I still think he’s got a long way to go to offer value for money at £8 million.

When you look at the players he’s doing similar to, a lot cost a lot more.

Like which ones?

Another thing to consider is that relegated teams flush with parachute payment cash and PL talent can afford for £8 million strikers to underperform; we don’t have that luxury.

Summerville, Rutter from Leeds, his stats are comparable to the best in the division.

I think £7.7m is a lot of money, I just think you pay a lot for strikers at this level.

Totally agree, he was absolutely shite before the last international break. (Yes I said absolutely shite, don't bother trying to sugar coat it anyone) but something appears to of clicked for him, maybe Ohare comming back, or the change of tactics, or maybe he's had a much needed rocket shoved up his hole, but whatever happened he's certainly looking a different player.

There's still a long way to go, but it's good to see his change of attitude. Fair play to him and credit where its due.

Now please take note Simms!!!

I am not sure what you expect to be honest. He's scoring at a good rate, assisting and one of our best performers especiallyin recent weeks. He played a key role in all three goals yesterday and has been covering at left midfield reasonably effectively despite clearly being a striker.

I know I am in a very small minority but I feel he has been considerably better than Simms and I find it amazing when people keep saying Simms will score more by the end of the season.

You accept he has been our most dangerous striker. I would say he has been our only dangerous striker for quite a while, which is why we desperately need to strengthen this area in January.

Teams in our division rarely pay that much for a striker unless they’ve recently come down from the PL with a wheelbarrow full of parachute payments - it’s not a lot of money for them in the same way it is for us.
