I’ve been critical of him but two quality finishes are a reminder of what he’s about. Puts the Langstaff rumours to bed. Just need to give him the ball in the box, we know he doesn’t do much else but in the box he is superb.

Simms offers much more of a threat (see assist today) but he would not have finished either of those chances and that’s what the game is all about…goals.

2 good finishes

that’s godden for you, for me he doesn’t really do much from an attacking sense in terms of build up etc

but I know who I want those chances to fall to

100% agree.
The fucking weird thing is some people think Simms should start instead !!!

Hopefully today will convince them that, if Godden is best utilised from the bench, then we need to bring in another striker during this window to start games.

With Godden on instead of Simms we don’t score the second goal, which was far more important than 2 late goals against a beaten team.
This was the ideal use of both of them today; Simms starts, works his socks off, creates a goal, causes havoc, forces keeper into some good saves and then is replaced by Godden to finish the game. Perfect.

Bidwell looked like scoring more than Simms

You say. "Simms forces keeper into some good saves"

I say "Godden gave keeper no chance"

That sums the situation up for me.

Godden is by far the more clinical finisher but being objective and fair to Simms would Godden have had the pace and power to do what Simms did for the Sheaf goal?

All I will say is

Coventry fans have short memories , that's the bottom line
They do but hasn't Robins strength been over the years not listening to sentiment and upgrading the squads gradually.

I think he's done a decent job of phasing out the old guard.

Exactly , and godden still plays .. maybe that response is best suited for the fans that give him stick

No this elite professional sport.

Players are incredibly well paid for part time hours and hero worshipped along the way but every player has a sell buy date.

it is not unreasonable for fans to aspire for better players to help move the club forward.

It doesn’t mean we have short memories only we aspire for better.

Without hope and ambition what’s the point in being a fan ?

City fans are in for a shock if they think langstaff will come here and be anything more than a younger sharper godden ..

That's what he is a fox in the box that works hard .. like godden

The manager plays the player still ... he's an elite manager involved in elite sport it means that currently he disagrees with fans like yourself .. doesnt it ?

Time will tell won’t it.

Godden is 32 and has scored 32 goals and 8 assists at Championshio level.

I don’t have any doubts that Simms will have scored and made more at this level by the time he is 32.

Godden has been good for Coventry and we have been good for him but his goal record at championship level is just OK and his assist record is woeful. I gave no idea why people feel the need to pretend it’s better than it is.

I still think Godden is better than Simms anyway
Different players, Godden couldn't have done what Simms did to assist Sheaf today and Simms isn't as good a finisher as Godden.

One up front system in the championship, I would favour Simms as he can deal physically better with opposition centre backs and be more powerful running the channels than Godden and plus we need to invest time in Simms to develop him as he is on a long term contract and has his best years in front of him. Bring Godden on later on in the matches when he may get more space to pick the corners with his shots or when we are chasing a goal.

That is ideal for me but not sure Godden is ready for that conversation.

In 105 games .. I have huge reservations about wether ellis simms will score 1 in 3 by 105 games

50 goals in 140 games is only bettered by 4 players in the last 50 years I believe

I'm happy for Simms to start , I'm happy for godden to be phased out whatever , fact remains he deserves more respect from our wanker fans

Langstaff is quicker than Godden. I'd have both to be fair (assuming that option is on the table). Still think Godden is more than good enough to be a squad player, but in the current system don't think he works as a starting lone striker.

Simms has 3 in 28 so far, so it would have to be some turn around. I hope it happens.

What I would say is, it's completely wrong as I've said above and I know Evo gets upset when it's Godden but there's no way he's the only one who gets shit on social media. Wright, Simms, Eccles, Sheaf etc... they all get it. He probably does just need to get over it a bit.

Genuinely find it hard to believe he got it more that Wright at the peak, or Sheaf at his getting shit peak, or even Bidwell! There must be a league table for shit received on social media somewhere.

Anyway the reason I back godden is because I went all over the country watching us in the depths of this league pyramid and throughout those times there were several players gave everything and their contribution helped this club rise back to where it is now , made 30-40,000 miles of travelling worth it over several years and one of them was matty godden . Scored all the important goals in big games in league 1 , and scored 30 odd important championship goals too , still works his bollocks off every match
