Surely though owning half the stadium adds many value streams such as...

Concerts and events
Better return on food and beverage sold
Less or no rent

Filled or not this is money we don't see today ?

And we would still not see any money from it even if we owned 50% as the arena company pay no dividends to shareholders until the mortgage is paid off.

Who knows if they are going to try their best to keep him? Should they say out loud they are willing to pay up to a certain price to keep him and give Forest and any other club interest in him our max price? Then do the fans heads in even more as they say they want to keep him but then fail?

I prefer to have them say they would like to keep him, but also say it is out of their hands. They are not as thick as some people like to make out. I would have thought they would have spoken to McGoldrick by now. They will have an idea what is needed. Nobody is saying we will be keeping him after January. Nobody can say for sure we won't though. If we can afford to keep him and he wants to stay then he will. They will know how important he is to us. They will also know that once he is under a contract his value will go up. A big reason why they will want to keep him.

yep can see the comparison. Goldie in last 6 months of his contract. Not wanted by his parent club and scoring goals in league one. - Ronaldo.

Maybe if Goldie tells forest he only wants to sign for Cov. That of course depends on him getting the right wages here.

Cov offer a token 100k.

Forest are left with a choice force him back when the manager does not want him. He sits on the bench for 6 months goes for free in the summer.

Accept the money and free up his wages for their manager.

Alternatively Goldie listens to offers wages wise from other clubs and decides he does not want to stay at cov.

We are not talking ronaldo here.

It will be a token fee as in 6 months he walks for free.

It just depends how happy he is at cov and who else comes in wages wise.

DAVID McGoldrick’s Coventry City team-mates are baffled that the in-form striker can’t get into Nottingham Forest’s first team.
The on-loan centre-forward chalked up his eighth goal for the Sky Blues at the weekend to give City a morale-boosting three points at Leyton Orient, prompting more calls from the fans for the club to "sign him up!"
And one of his closest pals during his loan spell at the Ricoh Arena, Steven Jennings, revealed he might well take matters into his own hands come January when the 24-year-old is due to go back to Nottingham.
"The lad’s on fire," said the Liverpudlian midfielder. "If you give him a chance he’s putting it away and all credit to him.

"He’s a fantastic footballer and it’s crazy how he can’t get in the Forest team at the moment.
"I don’t know what’s gone on there but from what we are seeing of him he could comfortably play in the Championship.
"We’d love to keep him here and I think he’d probably say the same himself, so unless Forest recall him I think he’d like to stay. He’s scoring goals, he’s getting in good positions and working his socks off for the team, so I don’t see why he wouldn’t want to carry on.
"I haven’t spoken to him about it yet but I’ll get him in a little headlock and scrunch his head and make him stay. I’m quite close to him and while he’s scoring goals I don’t see any reason why he would go unless he was to be called back and then it would be a big loss for us. But he’s got to put himself first."

Seemingly out of the picture at the City Ground, where he’s never had an extended run in the side, Jennings believes his spell with Coventry has transformed the player and given the club a major boost in the process.
"I think once anyone is playing with confidence they improve their game by 30-40 per cent and he seems to be doing that," he said.
"He’s putting chances away and not only scoring, he’s creating them, making runs into channels and dragging people here, there and everywhere and I’d hate to be a centre-half and have to play against him.
"I don’t really like bigging my own team-mates up but he really has set the place alight."

Where's the problem? Last season we lost our top scorer in January and that all ended ok didn't it?

Even Jennings is saying he could stay if Forest don't want him back, and Forest have already said they don't want him back. All down to money to me.

Maybe we can hold him to the comment about confidence and Improving by 30-40% when he and the rest find theirs:(

Shouldn't this read

' if they give him to us for free, and he'll accept minimum wages, then we will be able to keep him......but we can't be bothered to make a proper deal, so we are preparing the expectations of our fans to be resigned to another post-Christmas free fall'

Do something proactive for once, Sisu, give us something to look forward to, some hope, some reason to believe in you!

A free fall from the dizzy heights of 21st?

And if we can afford his wages and he is prepared to dig his heels in, it may not even require a fee.

1. If you read the OP....its actually Mcsheffrey that states its "out of our hands"...not Waggott.

2. He's a loanee....If he keeps scoring goals & playing well, he'll sign at a championship club anyway.

3. Unless you've been in a coma since 2001 or are "a bit slow", you'll have noticed we're a bit skint.

4. I don't know the exact figures, but i'm guessing we're already sailing pretty close to the wind with regards wage bill v turnover.

5. Moan all you like, but the only way we'll keep McGoldrick is if he "does an Eastwood" & becomes complete gash overnight.....

1, yes and.....

2, Not necessarily the forest manager said DMC is scoring at this level because it is league one.

3, & 4 Yep still maybe able to afford his wages otherwise how could we afford anyones this season.

5 Or he is happy here, we can agree wages for him. Forest are glad to get his wages off their books. He signs for us for the rest of the season for a nominal fee.

1....Just pointing it out as Waggott has said nothing negative, untoward or wrong in the OP as far as I can see....
2. Agreed....but there will be championship teams with money to spend on a goalscorer in the jan. window.....DMC ticks all the boxes to appease your average fan of a champ. team chasing the play-offs.
3 & 4. I've no idea how we can afford the current squad to be honest......
5. Fair enough......but I unfortunately have zero faith in any modern footballers....call me cynical but I reckon most would sign for dog-shit FC if they pay higher wages.....

David fell out with Forest's Gaffer. Forest will want a return on their initial £1m. So come January it will be an auction.

However, If David wants to stay with us he can see out his Contract & join on a free on 1/7/13 & enjoy pre season in preparation for L2 promotion campaign. :claping hands:

City do not have enough money to buy him in January without shifting may of the 'dross' guys.

The saviour that is Cody will have to step up im afraid.

VERY WORRIED INDEED

3. Yeah, we're a bit skint, but somehow do have the money to buy half the stadium.

This thread is going around in circles. If the board can afford to sign him they will but that may not be possible. Im sure MR is at the board to keep him and until jan we wont know any sooner if thats possible. I love the chap first Cov player in a long while that i have really liked.

In my opinion if he signed i really think he wopuld be the kind of player youy can build a team around. The kind of team that robbins will have looking at promotion next year. I am at a point now were i thinkthe season will have more wins than losses from this point so sit back and enjoy.

It's really down to the player. If he does not want to go to a different club you can't make him...he simply can find a way not to agree personal terms etc.

He can sign a pre contract with us and come here for free in July.

So Forest take him back january in spite of himself and stick him in the youh team to see his contract out. can you see him wanting to do that?

A small fee and I'm thinking £150/250k should get a deal done to keep him with us.
Lets not forget though IF a different club figures out doing the same thing and want him we may have to compete with a few slightly better off than us....though that's not so easy to find as every club has money issues and squad rules limiting their monouvreability.

There is a fine line in strikers...he is scoring now and looking good. a move may see that come to an end particularly if he is a sub elsewhere....think he has stated he has had enough of that.

We must remain favourites in my book.

Be nice if we were much higher up the league come Christmas.

Exactly. .....and I fully expect we will be Otis.
I watched the shambles on the Football League Show and still maintain we can beat the majority of teams in this league. When MR gets the balance and conditioning right soon we will climb up the league , no problem. Squads are small at most clubs and injuries will play a major part. We have a large squad we clearly will improve week in week out under Robins.

In the article it states they'd like to try and extend the deal. That could mean anything, not just loan. Signing him up on a 3 year contract would surely be extending the deal?

Common sense, however you may fined for expressing optimism

I'm sure you posted in the last week that you expect us to be comfortably sitting in the play offs by new year...

Of course not, I would be cockahoop but personally I don't think we'll close the 11 point gap over the remaining 31 games let alone 10.

IT'S OUT OF OUR HANDS, SAY CITY

COVENTRY City will do everything they can to upgrade David McGoldrick's loan deal into a long-term contract at the Ricoh Arena.
But the club admit there is nothing they can do until Nottingham Forest decide whether they want to recall the striker in January or put him up for sale to the highest bidder.

McGoldrick's eye-catching form has made him a hero with the Sky Blues' fans, who again chanted “sign him up“ when he slotted home his sixth goal in as many games to clinch Saturday's 1-0 win at Leyton Orient.

But development director Steve Waggott stressed: “We can't start talking publicly about all the scenarios surrounding David's future because there are lots of ifs, buts and maybes involved here.

“His form in front of goal has been out standing of late and, of course, it would be great if we could extend his stay beyond January when his loan deal is due to expire.

“But, while we are delighted with the goals he is scoring for Coventry City, he is still Nottingham Forest's player.“

McGoldrick cost Forest £1million when he arrived from Southampton in 2009 and if boss Sean O'Driscoll decides he is surplus to requirements at the City Ground they would want to recoup some of that outlay rather than allow him to leave as a free agent next summer.

But the Sky Blues are not well placed to compete in terms of transfer fees or wages and know that the more goals he scores the more competition they will face with several clubs, including Notts County and Charlton athletic, already keeping regular tabs on his performances.

“It's out of our hands,“ said Gary McSheffrey, who played just behind McGoldrick in a revamped attack at Brisbane Road.

“Forest have sent him out to get some games under his belt and the form he's in at the minute he would probably be a good asset to their squad in the Championship, “His goal on Saturday was a gift from their goalie but he was in that area to be composed, go round the keeper and slot it in and you tend to get those opportunities when you are on top of your game.

“Since he came here he has got his head down and worked really hard and wherever he ends up they will be getting a really good player.“

Its only out your hands if you dont have enough money!

We will just have to enjoy his goals until January......we havent a cat in hells chance of keeping him.

Cant imagine that a championship or a leading league one team arent keeping tabs on him. Seriously give it up :(
