Yeah tbf maybe I’ve been a bit pessimistic as it’s not the £6-£8 mil big blow out signing I was hoping for but you’re right, we’ve got a solid squad going forward and if we can add to that again in the next window, maybe another winger or something, then we’d be in a great position for next season.

Not aimed at you specifically, but there were people on this forum that wet the bed when we actually did sign someone for £7-9m…

If it comes off it will be another young player on i imagine to be a long term contract that can be given time to bed in. Another piece of the jigsaw and another step up with the club following the model of bringing in young potential players in, with hope of having every aspect of the process to turn into a positive.

Gone are the days where we scatter gun and hope something sticks or a loan can turn into a perm. Could again be a smart investment, lets see if it comes off and only time will tell if its a good investment.
Loan to perm is a really good way to try before you buy. O'Hare, Sheaf and Big Vik were all loans first, and many fancied buying Walsh and McNally and would have liked Maatsen to stay.

To be fair back then we barely had a pot to piss in . I doubt many clubs would loan out a player with a reasonable transfer value

Higher up the football pyramid you go, it’s more difficult to do these types of deals. On that list, most players ended up not rejoining. My instinct is that had we tried to sign McNally permanently in Jan last year, we have had a chance before his successful loan spell increased his price. Likewise with Walsh.

with Walsh, I am glad we didn't sign him permanently as he's barely kicked a ball since

This post reminded me of the guy on here who thought that Wikipedia has special access to the FA’s player registration system and that Wikipedia pages would only update when a player was registered at a club on the FA’s backend server. One of my all time favourite SBT posts.

I still think we will look at the loan market and possibly bring one in before window closes. I just think we as a club now dont want 5 loans in the squad. Its going to be built mainly on our own players signed to long term contracts.

Just had a look at Cov live site and seems like a deal is imminent for a midfield player from the Danish league for £2.1 million .

Just a couple of notes. 1, Does this mean O'Hare is going with Palmer taking his spot and this guy playing the deeper role? 2, Can we stop talking about midfielder tackling its bollocks, all defensive midfielders do nowadays is disrupt the opposition, being over 50 means I haven't seen a proper tackle since the 80's.

Assuming this happens, add cover for Sakamoto and Wright (happy if it's one player) and with Binks an option in the summer based on the chat this week, that's a good window. Only pisser would be if O'Hare does a Hamer and leaves last minute without a chance to replace him. Palmer cushions the blow but ideally, you want a body even to replace him, even if it's a loan.

Definitely, I'd be ecstatic if we can bring in this guy plus a wide striker / winger that can play on the left and right. We would have some great depth, I mean even Da Silva & MvE could play further forward on the respected side.

Was hoping for a big signing (5 mill+) to replace Hamer, but from that YouTube video he looks good and exactly what we need, only concern is he's only played in relatively poor divisions. Sakamoto was the same and he's turned out alright.

Tbf it's harsh to compare the Belgian league to the Norwegian one. Nevertheless the Scandi market often bears fruit.

How he performs is more important than how much he cost and how well-known he is - he looks like he will fit in well and I trust Mark and Adi enough to anticipate that he will be a good addition

I think these £1m to £2m signings are the right tactic. Potential to develop but without putting all eggs in one basket.

Okay I may have been hasty with regards to Torp but I’m sure there was someone on here last night saying “we’re currently after no one this window”, or am I just imagining that? 😂
