Has Alan Nixon ever got anything right?

I think we underestimate how difficult it is to scout & recruit players at our level and that there will be the odd one that doesn't work out. It seems a lot easier for the big 6 in PL and teams like Barcelona, Real, Bayern etc as they always tend to buy established stars from teams in top 11/12 european leagues or top South American teams and even they make mistakes. Rory Smith was on about this on R5live and how teams like Man Utd don't buy players from championship or lower PL teams. To me Gyokeres looks a better player than Hojlund (?) and they should have bought him instead, I'm glad that they didn't as we probably wouldn't receive any additional money for him like we probably will in the next year or so. I like the way we are copying Brighton's model & so far this season it seems to be working OK.
Nixon is very good st EFL level

Well that’s a great tool to use, i’m not saying we should do similar but Villa pumped money into loaning in Tami Abraham’s bit of a risk but his goals helped get them promoted now look at them, wouldn’t have a clue who though.
Only 2 types of player become available to loan like this ….

Young foreign signings who need time to adapt to the English game ( Ayari ) or youth products who clubs feel need high level competitive football as their next step ( Cuffey )

In both cases they are gambles …..

The highest cost option is older playets who won’t make match day squads who clubs want in the shop window to move in the summer ( we have not traditionally done this but Forest did in their promotion yr )

Disagree, you've also got players with 6 months left on their contracts such as CH. If he isn't signing and a bid comes in that's acceptable he might be gone. There's lots of players running down contracts around Leagues, if a manager can get them now and the money men say OK why would you wait.

Has there been any chat re: Al-Hamadi moving in Jan to other clubs? With the CM signing costing less than we might have thought, assuming he's available for less than £3m, looks like he'd be such a good pick-up. Right age, covers all positions across a front three. Tall as well. MR has shown he'll rotate. You'd hope him, Wright, Simms and Sakamoto would all get enough minutes so keep them happy.

Interested to hear from anyone that's seen this guy play. Based on clips and stats, he seems ideal. Wright is two footed enough that he could move to the right, Simms left, Al-Hamadi down the middle. Feel like the three could be fairly interchangeable.

If Sakamoto isn't fit, off form, or we want physicality for a particular game, those three could work. That four pushing for three places could be a real statement of intent. I'd assume Godden becomes like Kelly and Fadz - there when needed.

O’Hare. He enjoys his football. However,if he’s not signing, then why let him take the place of a player who is staying.

Even with that I don’t know who, perhaps just Leicester that would be one in the eye wouldn’t it.
Not sure they would bother, looks like they will walk into the automatics this year already and Cals hardly going to be of the level of player they will be looking for to re-establish them in the prem

A Swedish friend of mine obviously follows the Allsvenskan religiously(AIK fan himself) and said he thinks we should go after Momodou Sonko from Hacken. Can play on either wing or up front and has 11 goals in 31 appearances this season and is only 18 years old. Apparently pretty rapid also and my friend thinks will be making his debut for Sweden men's team sooner rather than later.

I asked him how much he thought they would want for him and he said probably at least 2 to 3m. Too much?

Given our transfer policy, we could easily throw a couple of million at someone like this. In my opinion breaking down the big outgoing transfers into a variety of healthy spread out incomings is the right move.

As for the player, he has a lot of potential, but still very young. He's been one of the better plays this season. Häcken are a good club. One of the smallest in Göteborg, but despite bring minnows compared to GAIS and IFK 10 years ago, are now the best team in the city by far. Used to love watching them play when I lived there. Stadium was a cattle shed with an athletics track at the time!

January is not a good time really for transfers, manager has to judge if a player is good enough to help get us promotion and good enough to hold their one in the prem if they can’t you can be stuck with players on two/three year contracts and on Premiership wages

Somebody , of a football background, should be really having a stern word in Doug’s ear , as the same scenario was here with Gus …. I don’t think we can afford to lose somebody as good & infectious within our squad as he is & the money he wants is an investment , so let’s hope this isn’t another if only ?

Problem is if you break a wage structure for one player it leaves you wide open to agents pushing for more and more in the future. The pragmatic approach has to be sensible

No one player is bigger than the team.

But you can understand COH hanging back if that’s what he’s doing to see what others get especially any new ones, he’s amongst our best players proved his injury is okay and hit the ground running form wise.

Which one is this based on? Like me some Talk Talk but mainly the weirder stuff (Spirit of Eden).
Same here. I like Spirit Of Eden and Laughing Stock. The Mark Hollis solo album is good too. This is just the "Talk Talk" single.

Because proven premier league players have 2 issues for clubs like ours…. Their current wages, and their expected future wages as a Bosman.

COH doesn’t want to sign unless he doesn’t get a better offer, then he will do us the huge favour of accepting our offer.

I think we have to be looking at a wide player surely? Otherwise we’re an injury away from starting Palmer out wide every week which isn’t his natural position.

How many loan players did we have last season ? Around 5/6 , something the club have had to do most seasons. Makes a change not to have to rely on them even when some have been quality loan players.
watch what happens to Hull if they dont go up this year! I will have abet on them getting relegated.
