Moved from the match thread, I stand by it:

I think Simms is a good target man. Absolutely needs to sort his confidence out and shoot but I actually thought his hold up play was good. Something none of our other strikers can do. Stick him in the middle with Tats and O'Hare running off him. Quality the way he held off that defender and laid the ball off perfectly for Allen who wasted it.

One thing I’ve noticed is he brings a bit of physicality in comparison to what Godden & Wright bring. That one shot where he put it straight into the keepers hands was bad. Hope he comes good, confidence can be an amazing thing

He never looks like he has any technique, just flat footed and laces it all the time, can't imagine Simms finessing a shot into a corner of the net.

What a bunch of absolute dumbasses. It's the same posters over and over again. Start of 2022/23 season, we're going to get relegated, start of 23/24 season, we're going to get relegated, Wright's shit, MVE's shit, Kitching's shit, Simms is shit. Have you not worked out that you're always wrong yet?

Robins dragged this small time club to the brink of the Premier League, and he's inexplicably got us in the play off positions after losing our best players. Happy to trust his judgement over a bunch of morons on the Internet.

Exactly , we haven't heard from some of these absolute idiots in weeks . We draw a game we should've won and they all come back . It's incredibly boring

Yeah it’s all upper body ey. He’s quite slow too. Both the Afro’s this season have been depressing for me personally.

The last Afro before him was Brown and he was also very merhhh

Simms is anything but slow unless Godden has suddenly grown a fro

His play on the whole is so passive. Tame efforts at goal, gets easily shrugged off the ball and rarely makes use of his pace.

He set up our two best chances of the game (Godden and Allen - both should’ve done better), put himself about a fair bit and held the ball up well. If he just had a bit of confidence in front of goal he could be a beast. Just hope it clicks for him soon

When the substitute board was about to go up he walked towards the bench as he presumed he was coming off as he knew he was that bad. He’s never going to score goals.

Hes shit

I've said this before but I still havent had anyone state what im saying is incorrect

First touch is shit
Cant run
When he manages to put his feet in front of the other he's like Bambi on ice
Cant shoot
So 1 footed its unbelievable
Never in the right place showing a 'strikers instinct'

Id only still start him because Goddens done

We need a striker or top 6 wont happen

This pretty much guarantees we finish top 6 and have the new Ian Rush on our hands

Honestly that Simms miss tonight was unbelievable, i have watched it back and i can't get my head around the decision making. He simply had to run forward and tap it home. Instead he turned into opposition danger and at this point he could have played it into Kasey Palmer who was unmarked and it's a goal, instead he runs into defenders turns and misses. I understand he is struggling massively with confidence and form but that tonight was shocking.

Godden for me needs to be moved on, a very one dimensional forward that is a player our club has outgrown. I feel Godden can still do some great work at the likes of Sheffield Wednesday, QPR, Cardiff, Rotherham or a Millwall, but we have without a doubt outgrown this player over the past 2 seasons.
Coventry City are playing incredibly quick football, we rely on technical players to find openings and ask questions. Godden cannot offer this, so what we end up with is Godden sitting inside the box while the likes of Sakamoto, Palmer, O'Hare, Wright, Milan and Sheaf try to create an opening. Godden needs to be a player that can join the 6 players just mentioned, simply he hasn't got the tools required.

Godden needs shifting, he has been an incredible servant for our football club but every dog has its day. We need to prioritize shifting Godden and bringing in someone who can slot right in to our tactical style opposed to being someone that plays their own game because of their limitations.

Both had half decent chances tonight

Half chances sums it up really. Two consecutive games v Sheff Wednesday have failed to produce a clear cut chance for our strikers.

Their movement is there, we’re just not finding them atm. We’re really good at creating opportunities in wide areas but centrally was been a problem.

I was not keen on signing him back in the summer, and was hopeful Ipswich would do so. However the chopping and changing of him in the starting line up has not helped. He performed admirably against Southampton and Leeds United, started to build a good understanding with Wright and was then dropped without good reason for the matches against two poorer sides. It’s all hypothetical now, but I wonder if he might have kept up that run and form going, maybe he might have scored in one of those games and his confidence would be higher.
Do you think Robins obsession with captain slow is harming Simms the same with what happened to Walker after scoring 2 goals he was dropped to the bench the game after and never seemed to really recover from that..!

At this rate people will be saying they hope it clicks for him on the last day of the season

If squad selection was left to some of the members of this forum, we'd have half a squad and still be languishing in L2. The negativity and piling on this forum generates is beyond a joke.

Wake up. If he's told beforehand that he'll play 60 mins (or whatever) and then Robins will swap it around, he'll know to walk. Don't let your negative attitude get in the way of common sense.

Do you ever post positives about the team you allegedly support ?

Simms and Walker very different - Simms gets in good positions but has not found the confidence to make himself room for the shot - Walker just moped about in my view -

positive points from last night - Wright back fit again , resting Saka , Torp looking good , still in the cup , Wednesday beatable - could hear the fans so loud on the radio - ready for Bristol with the A team - B team need improvement but all fit

He played the 90 mate, I’m struggling for any positives when it comes to simms, torp on the other hand showed more in 60 minutes than simms has in his whole time here.

Simms is so short of confidence it’s painful to watch BUT there is a player there. Robins treatment of him in recent weeks won’t have helped. Simms was just finding his feet, linking up a little with Hadji and then Godden moans to the manager about game time and scores two late goals against a tired and beaten lg1 side. …. Godden is in, Simms is out and his confidence and momentum lost again.

He might not be the answer but right now he’s the best option we have and we need to build his confidence and show some trust in him.

Robins treatment of Simms? You’re having a laugh right? He’s given him way more opportunity than he should have. How he dealt with that chance just after half time was shocking.

Nah, goddens was a snapshot. Simms on the other hand has all the time in the world and made the wrong decision at every point.
Snapshot or not , a finisher of his standard should of buried it.
Simms chance however, was a complete mess. Should of hit it early. Went down a cul de sac and ended up with a pass back.

You've got so much wrong in the past though. Writing players off as awful, who have then have proved you wrong, so it's hard to have any credence in what you say unfortunately.

Godden's missed loads of fantastic chances and so too, Wright.

I would give him until next season.

Actually agreed with Brummie Nick on the phone in last night after the game...

Simms is still young but needs a lot more consistent game time. He'll have a good game and then get about 10-15 minutes in the next couple which I imagine might be to give Godden some gametime if he's been at Mark Robins door asking to play more.

Agree we could do with another option up front though, Haji Wright is a lot more suited to that wide role than in the centre
