We seen glimpses already that Thomas and Kitching aren't afraid to mix it, they might have stood in Sakas corner and said a few words had they been on the pitch at the time. Outside of those two we appear to have a relatively quiet team. But as someone above suggests, our football is doing the talking.

Would be if it was the Premier League.

Players know that they won't get away with it in the Prem. They have cameras watching for infringements.

In the Championship and below you have a lot of players that are not as skillful as the rest but they're on the pitch to stop the more skillful players. The lower down the table a side is the more it happens. Can't remember the game but we had a side this season taking it in turns to try and take lumps out of our players. Most of them got booked including the players subbed on.

Saka is definitely being targeted in the same way Gyokores was last season, and seems to get no protection whatsoever. His resilience in the face of this treatment is admirable, but it seems inevitable he will pick up a bad injury from one of these challenges sooner or later. I agree MR should highlight this now, maybe show a few video clips in a news conference and get it in the forefront of refs minds.

Napolimp cut me some slack at my age don't know 1 countries art from another and certainly could not do them.

The issue is that you went - Asian, must be good at martial arts. It's a boring and lazy stereotype that reinforces the view that Asia is a homogeneous place.

I've heard our fans make comments about Tatsu flying into tackles like a kamikaze, people saying he sent him for a 'chow mein' when he's gone past players, etc, etc, and I'm getting bored of it.

I'm sorry if you feel that I'm singling you out, but I think being an elder statesman means you have more responsibility to tackle this kind of thing rather than a 'Pass' because of it.

Not savvy to Pete’s connections, but surely someone on here can forward the clip to the right place so it’s seen. Then, let us know where to direct the evidence, because that absolute bastard can’t be allowed to just get away with nearly breaking Tatsu’s face.

As it’s been stated, the EFL can and should take action, as the referee missed it completely. Surprise surprise.

Who is the player anyway? So it’s a bit less vague than to keep referring to him as a selection of vulgarities.

What does it achieve in all honesty, critise the officials on the day by all means but it benifits everyone else apart from us with retrospective action?

Martial Arts are traditionally taught as part of a national curriculum in Japan. They’re optional now, but were mandatory until about 10-15 years ago.

This is customary in most of the Far East.

I get the point that Tatsu wouldn’t start putting opposing players in a Jiu Jitsu hold and snapping their arms off, but still.

Personally, I think the definition of racial stereotyping is being taken too far on here, especially considering it isn’t racist or offensive to assume that a Japanese man knows martial arts. 🤷‍♂️

Someone could suffer irreparable eye damage one day. It can't be allowed to just be forgotten about and that the player gets away with it, when the evidence is crystal clear.

What does it achieve?

To get a measure of justice for the player, who was elbowed viciously in the face. He’s not being looked after by referees or officials, which is their actual job, is it not?

How would a retrospective red card for violent conduct, premeditated no less, not be beneficial to the club and Tatsu? Would it not benefit the club to kick up a stink about it, so the publicity would ensure that referees would at least recognise players who are being targeted?

I agree 100%.

As someone who once had their eye socket fractured (and still suffers visual disturbance 12 years later because of it), by a thug who got away with it, the level of passivity and ‘oh well, nevermind, what can be done’ I’m seeing on this thread is baffling.

I'm not sure how any of this is relevant - looking for a tenuous explanation is counterproductive.

Nobody knows any of Tatsu's backstory. In fact, we don't know any of the players. We also have martial arts/combat sports in the West, meaning that some of our other players may have taken part in those activities in the past.

If it was known that he had vast experience there (like it was about Zlatan), then it's an acceptable conclusion to come to and an acceptable comment to make.

However, without knowledge and drawing a conclusion based on assumptions around heritage/culture/background, etc - it's at best a reductive stereotype and, at worst racist.

I think I possibly didn't explain my viewpoint accurately of course I don't wish to demean the consequence of retrospective action just that it will do to benifit us, afraid it's a byproduct of keeping the game moving at all costs.

So I've 'lost my head' by replying - Have you also? Or is that reserved for someone confronting your view?

It is not my 'ideology' it is indeed a fact that basing assumptions on heritage or physical characteristics is stereotyping.

To infer that because someone is Japanese, they must do martial arts, is to make a stereotype.

Must all Brits play Cricket? Take afternoon tea? Go Morris dancing? Must all French people eat snails? Smell of garlic? Be arrogant?

If we had knowledge that he is a Judoka, etc, then it is an acceptable comment. But assumption/stereotyping of 'The East' is reductive.

I don't need you to educate me on Japanese culture, I've spent time living and working there. I also have Japanese friends, none of whom are representative of your view.

They are individual people with individual values, interests, and traits, which is the crux of the issue.

We all know how this plays out. Will happen in another game. One of our players will stand up for who ever is elbowed and then get sent off. With nothing more Thant a yellow for the player who used the elbow
