Poorly phrased on my part, I meant your second sentence
I'd never heard of it either, I initially thought that you were just chucking a random word into your postsCope must be at least ten years old now surely? It’s more “you’re saying that because you want to believe it even though it’s not true”
Never heard it used in that context, but then again, i am rather older than 10.Cope must be at least ten years old now surely? It’s more “you’re saying that because you want to believe it even though it’s not true”
Correct that we should be reaching that small percentage while remembering that it is very much the minority. They need to try to get through to those young people though. That 9% (not 10) of those 18-24 out of work (studying or unemployed) in the poll I mentioned saying they never intend to work.
Also from same survey
‘As a result, there is a clear tranche of young people feeling disenfranchised and lacking the motivation – or ability – to progress within the workforce. One in ten (10%) young people never want to have a better or more interesting job and 16% of those currently working eight hours or less per week never want to progress at work’
I mean that 9% of those not working never intending to work plus the 16% of those in part time jobs doing less than 8 hours a week, never wanting to progress. WTF ?!!
Galloway has been sworn in then. I bet Sunak is dreading him being drawn to ask a question at PMQ’s. Got a feeling that Friday night’s press conference was as much to do with Sunak’s feelings being hurt by Galloway repeatedly referring to him as diminutive when being interviewed by press following his win.
What's wrong with 'wishful thinking'?Cope must be at least ten years old now surely? It’s more “you’re saying that because you want to believe it even though it’s not true”
What's wrong with 'wishful thinking'?
I think SBD was suggesting you use "wishful thinking" as a description of my ramblings rather than a street term that no-one has ever heard of, not that it was valid for me to adopt it (whether i did or not). It’s not the best basis for statistical criticism.
Yeah TBF I think it's very online, I've not heard it offlineHardly in common use though, I'd venture. Forgive me for not having a link to Urban Dictionary in my Bookmarks bar!

It is used in a subtly different context online, more as a noun than a verb but yes derived from that definition

So it’s sounding like Hunt intends to cut spending to by £8billion with the NHS taking the brunt to fund his tax cuts. The Guardian reporting that it will be the biggest cut to their budget in 50 years. Tax cuts no one is asking for and is highly unlikely to win them any praise from any quarter or gain them any votes in numbers that will make a difference to their chances at the GE. It’s a trap for the next government who will no doubt be forced to either put taxes up or borrow more money to reverse this budget.
What could possibly go wrong?
I said no one is asking for.If no one’s bothered why would anyone care if the next government puts the taxation back to pre budget levels?
I said no one is asking for.
Well if no one is asking for them they won’t care if they are reversed will they?
I think many people consider personal taxation to be too high. If they don’t and they value the services of the NHS as an example they will embrace higher taxation won’t they?
Also Ms Reeves (who really is a Tory) says no more borrowing and staying in fiscal rules. As you have a habit of voting for the austerity party I’m not surprised you’ve gone all Starmer Tony.
For starters I’m not all Starmer. If I do end up voting labour at the next GE it will be purely tactical to do everything I can to stop the Tories getting in. My instinct is to vote Green but there is unfortunately a bigger picture. If tactically voting LibbDems was the best chance I’d begrudgingly vote for them too, that wouldn’t make me all Ed Davey. If neither Labour or Lib Dem is the best tactical vote in my seat I’ll be voting Green regardless. I’m all Carla and Adrian if I’m all anything.Well if no one is asking for them they won’t care if they are reversed will they?

Why? We have a government who’s weaponised it and they have a compliant press who’s spent a good decade doing their dirty work for them.I’m surprised immigration is such a key issue
What we have is a deficit of workers, they've brought some in and have been using the others as distraction so we don't notice the official influx! Why? We have a government who’s weaponised it and they have a compliant press who’s spent a good decade doing their dirty work for them.
It's weird how Tories pretend to be libertarian when the reality is that they are extremely authoritarian.

And the boats aren’t even the biggest issue. By far the biggest cause of illegal immigration is visa overstay. It dwarfs the boat statistics. What we have is a deficit of workers, they've brought some in and have been using the others as distraction so we don't notice the official influx!
As above, trivial point but cope isn't a noun. Unless you're street. Bruv.
