VAR (10 Viewers)

Hardly the biggest takeaway from today’s result, but wondered if 99 minutes of The VAR Show has changed anyone’s minds on whether it’s a good thing for the game?

Is it making games more fair? Better to watch? Is it protecting refs from criticism?

It's not making it better to watch at all. Surely though more often than not the correct decision is being made . Isn't it ?
That decision today took an age.

I still like it. It's the way they administer it. How on earth they were supposed to unravel that today, God knows. Was never going to happen.

All it needed was a 20 seconds look and a decision made that there was nothing obvious and no obvious error, it should have just stayed with the onfield decision.

Nowt wrong with VAR. Something incredibly wrong in how they decipher the footage and implement the system.

The CoH kick to the face being deemed ok was ridiculous.

I didn't celebrate the equaliser cos I thought var gonna rule it out for offside. That's me being glass half empty but also the worry of var added in
And this is why it’s total shit for me - you can’t even properly celebrate the very best thing about football, because some dweeb in a control room might decide to tell you it didn’t actually happen once he’s slowed it down enough times on his monitor.

You can’t even watch a fucking replay of a goal on TV anymore without them freezing it mid-highlight to satisfy the nerds who would otherwise hop online to claim there’s a conspiracy against their shitty little club.

I think it is just not executed properly.

If it’s not clear and obvious, 30 seconds to 1 minute should be enough - you can’t just carry on looking to find an error with something.

Then when a check clearly shows an obvious error with a very short replay e.g. OHare gets studs in the face from a recklessly high challenge, nothing given.

I know these are decisions related to us, but I can see they baffled other supporters online as well.

It's just not consistent. Sometimes they will look in depth, some times they don't even bother looking.

How couldn't they see that O'Hare had been kicked in the face?
The only way it will ever be consistent is if they stop the game after literally all goals and contentious tackles (uhhh no thanks), or just scrap it altogether.

It's pointless if they can pick and choose which goals they want to spend 5 minutes trying to find a way to disallow and which they don't. Same with penalties etc

They spent no time at all looking at that it seemed!

Var spoils the atmosphere imo, I'd rather the ref was trusted to make the right/wrong decision, can't stand these long delays before you can celebrate properly.

Also, singing "the referees a bastard"
And "your not fit to referee" are part of every fans vocabulary, blaming VAR doesn't even get a song!

Had no issue before today’s game. Fuck waiting five minutes to celebrate a goal, get rid.
My only experience of VAR was at UEFA sanctioned matches (England internationals) and those checks are much more efficient.

It’s clear to me that the FA has really made a hash of VAR implementation. 5 minutes waiting was a joke.

Definitely heard "Fuck VAR" and "You can stick VAR up your arse" being sung previously

I have a problem with the principle of it, football is about debate, opinion and controversy.

I don't want 4 minute debates over marginal calls, let me argue with people about it.

Its to stop hand of god moments, Henry vs Ireland handballs and O'hare bing kicked in the face.

Not to slow down a scruffy back post goal where they're wrestling and trying to reach the ball.
