Solid, regular, back 5. (7 Viewers)

Next season we need to know who our best back 4 and regular goalkeeper is.

We've had too much chopping and changing this year which provides no stability in an area of the pitch you need it most.

99% of successful teams have a solid unchanged back 4 most games and a number 1 keeper.

That's the priority for me next season.

Could not agree more and I think MR would acknowledge this after our poor start! Consistent squad with hopefully no major injuries or red cards

Latibeaudiere is a CB, and in emergencies a holding midfielder. Burroughs to cover MVE at RB.
Collins to start as No 1, and bring in possibly a young up & coming keeper to push him. Wilson and Moore to go.
Not sure what's happening with Bidwell. Some saying he's off in the summer. Hopefully not.

So, based on that the Defensive squad should be
GK : Collins, New GK
CB : Thomas, Kitching, Latibeaudiere & a new LCB
RB : MVE, Burroughs
LB : Bidwell, Dasilva (if Bidwell goes, then a first choice LB)

I get the need to rotate in the Championship due to the number of games, but I would like to see a stat of some sort that shows out of all the Championship teams who changed their back 4/5 the most.

I bet we'd be up there near the top.

tbf, im really excited about the next transfer window.

Id like lukas jenson in goal. L1 i know, but hes got great stats, and is about 6"10

Bit of a fallacy we have rotated or chopped and changed isnt it? That makes out its through design but its injuries and suspensions that have dictated who played.

As soon as the switch to 4 was made it was MvE Thomas Kitchen Bidwell when we could.

Problem is losing Tats meant me needed to move Milan up the pitch. Kitchen has been out twice suspended and is just about to miss a few more.

for me the summer is about getting in quality cover or upgrades IF they are available. Id 100% give Bidwell a new deal, he wasnt the best at Wembley but the month or so before was some of his best form and he was excellent Vs Wolves.

Keep Lati and Dasilva as jack of all trades cover players. Dasilva has looked better on the wing for me anyway.

Ask about how much Binks would cost then make the call. also wouldnt be against seeing if Burnley want to offload McNally on the cheap, id back Robins to get a tune out of him again

Decent keeper is the absolute number 1 priority for me.
Don't think it will happen though, think we're stuck with the 3 stooges.
I agree. Moore's contract finishes in the summer so I assume we will try to sign another and hopefully he will be an upgrade on what we have.

It feels some people underestimate the importance of a good keeper.

How many points was it Ferguson said a good keeper was worth a season, 12, 15, something like that.

Who is this mythical keeper people want us to sign? Collins is already THE top goalkeeper in the league according to WhoScored. Where are we getting an upgrade that we could afford and would want to play for us.

A dip of form doesn't make a bad keeper.

To be fair, out of all keepers with 20+ appearances this season, WhoScored has the 2nd and 3rd ranked keepers from teams who are getting relegated.

No reason to rotate a defence imo. Perhaps someone so attacking who exerts a lot of energy like MVE, bit unless there's an injury keep them playing together and rotate your attacking options.

Apparently we’re after 2 CBs in the summer which would suggest that in a back 4, Lati would be considered a back up for MVE. Burroughs has been playing WB rather than full back so I doubt he’d be viewed as a second choice options next season.

Wouldnt surprise me

I've seen a few going on about Burroughs? Is he up to it? He hasn't been getting a game at Lincoln, so what's to say he will be good enough?

I always thought Burroughs was more of an attacking midfielder who has been playing wingback, rather than a specialist wingback/fullback. I can't see him being second choice right back, it will likely be Lati. I can see him being looked at as a back up wideman. Even the official describes him as a midfielder.

Il be surprised if Burroughs isnt looked at extensively over pre season

From your contacts, we’re also looking extensively at RW, CM and AM, correct? So it’s not immediately obvious where Burroughs fits in as an immediate 2nd choice option. Despite being talented by all accounts.

Me neither and to add to your point, Lati has rarely been used as a CB in a 4-2-3-1. He’s been used more as a RB so you’d expect he’d remain the 2nd choice

Being down 2 CBs going into the summer (McFadz & Binks), it would make sense that we’d go for 2 there.

Burroughs has apparently been good in that position for Lincoln so it’s possible he’ll have a position change.

This season
GK: Collins
RB: MvE
CB: Thomas
CB: Binks
LB: Bidwell

keep that next season and we’ll do really well, if we cant get Binks it will be a shame as he’s really happy here and wants to stay

Perhaps Burroughs is a bit of a ‘utility’ player himself, as well as Lati. As, so I’ve read, he’s naturally an AMF, but can play RWB. Probably RWF if he has that natural attacking ability.

Would be decent cover, when all is said and done. 👍🏻

Do we really see Wilson as our no.1? Collins has had a bad run of form, but in all honesty, he does seem a more capable option than Wilson, when he’s in form.

As for the establishment of a solid back four, well. That remains to be seen. It’s a bit ‘up in the air’ with Bidwell possibly leaving, and Kitching being…well, a bit erratic. Thomas, I feel, is a mainstay, as is MVE.

Would be curious to see if we signed Binks permanently. I think he has that potential, as does Kitching, it’s just a case of ironing out those ‘creases’.

Two footed as well. If he’s of the right quality he would be an excellent player to have around. Big if though. Really hope him, and Howley, kick on but we’ve been here so many times and so few make it through these days, I just wonder if both won’t be let go and we’ll bring a young RB in.

Surely it makes sense budget wise to keep Burroughs here as backup. Lati can always cover if he's not up to it. Would certainly be a lot cheaper than bringing in someone new.
