Not strictly true, although the way we fell away so dramatically wasn't too much of a suprise.
Although for the record I was never impressed with Thomas, Kitching, Collins and Dasilva.

And (I know this is going to get me some shit) I'm not convinced by Wright and Simms. Wright was shit as a CF but fair play to him, he's impressed on the LW

Simms has had a purple patch in front of goal, after 2 goals in 25 appearances, he started scoring of his arm, his shin literally everything was flying in, but let's be honest, he can't trap a bag of cement, and yes, I know that's not the point if you score 20 goals a season, but for me the new season will be a big test for him.

True, but it's strange how the players I called "not good enough" at the start of the season are now the ones under the spotlight on here (Simms apart)

And for the record, I did say Sakamoto and MVE looked the real deal.

Give it another a season and we’ll see how this pans out. MR and his team have the long term in mind, not the here and now.

No idea if this is true, but would potentially be a good move for all parties.

He will struggle to get that LW spot ahead of EMC and he's one of the top earners here. If we get our money back or even a profit off him I'd let him go and use the money else where.
Fucking hell. He’s quality and will likely start up top with Simms; he’s also a better player than EMC.
Just admit you got this one wrong.

I'd just like to say a short piece on 'overspending on league 1 players'.
Premier League clubs are now in a place where they don't think twice about spending £15 million and quite far upwards of that for Championship players. In my mind this is a lot for a second tier player but we expect it for our players.. we benefit from the obscene money floating around in that league, we (rightly so) want our slice of that pie.
With that in mind, why the fuck shouldn't league 1 clubs get their slice of the pie from the filter down? Talk about forgetting where we came from. I bet there were some drips saying Wilson and Maddison were overpriced once upon a time.

It's a stupid argument. Firstly he doesn't really play as a winger. Secondly, he plays better in a position that suits him better... well yeh no shit Thirdly it's like saying Thierry Henry was shit because he wasn't that good as a winger (his original position) but he was outrageous as a striker. Yeh shit winger though mate, tear that statue down.

It’s trickle down, isn’t it?

Championship teams know Prem teams have money from their own player sales and TV revenue. So we will demand 10s of millions of pounds - plenty of Championship players have proven they can make the grade too.

Likewise, plenty of good players have come from League 1. Toney & our own Wilson came from L1, did a gap year in the Championship before establishing themselves as strong Prem players. There’s probably a lot more too. Rightfully, L1 teams shouldn’t sell their players for peanuts.

Stoke fans seem to think mccallun is agreed to go there. One for you @Saddlebrains

I think fans and journalists up and down the country are just spouting rumours and speculation at the moment? It always happens and most of them are wrong. If journalist put forward enough rumours they are bound to be right on one or two.

I'd be surprised. Would be purely financial if so. But as i said last week, we went forward on Browne, the Keeper and McCallum and then everyone went on holiday, apart from Doug so again; wouldn't expect to hear much on anything until after the back hols weekend

Well I know we finished 9th in a piss poor championship, so I guess we are a team packed with world class players.

Where you seem to offer absolutely no opinion on anything. If there's one person who knows nothing it looks like it's you.

Anyone can disagree with anyone else's opinions, but you can't even offer a reasonable debate, your like a petulant child in the playground.

There's an article suggesting that Stoke are after £5m-£7m rated Jake Clarke-Salter (but face competition from PL clubs). May have had a decent end to the season for QPR, but that's like throwing decent money at Liam Walsh (who has just been released at Swansea - sign him on a free?) with a suspect injury record. I can see the argument for taking a risk on the likes of Walsh if you're not paying a fee, but no way I'd be risking it on JC-S for a significant fee.

5 to 7 million pounds for Clarke salter bloody hell

makes 4.5 for Kitching look shrewd

If Stoke waste that on him I'd be delighted. I love seeing rival teams pissing money up the wall.

Stoke never learn. Would be interesting if everyone boycotted their gambling overlords to see if the owners would keep subsidising them

Wright is an excellent player at this level. His struggles early on were mostly due to having to receive the ball with his back to goal, which is not his strength. He could be successful centrally if he had more support and was given the ball ahead of him more.

Simms has come on leaps and bounds, even ignoring the goals his general centre forward play has improved. He uses his body much more and has become very good at holding the ball up and bringing others into play.

We should be asking for £20m from anyone interested in either.

You’ve suggested you’d be happy to just get our money back on a player who just scored 19 goals for us and spend it elsewhere. Wright is one of our best players and there was a reason why we’d have signed him had we beaten Luton.

He’d probably do better in the Prem than this league, like a number of other signings we made.

It’s incredible. Of all the shite we’ve had over the years and some sections have routinely lambasted our (almost) 20 goal a season fully fledged international striker. The mind boggles.

Oh for the days of Clive Platt and Freddie Eastwood.

@Nick we’ve got a weird bug of posts from October 2023 showing up as posted today??
