I meant with us to be fair. It’s a stupid comment to say he’s not worth as much as Simms and Wright as he clearly in the open market will be

I agree. I think he is definately worth that. He needs more goals and assists though but I can see clubs willing to offer that especially as there is no transfer fee involved.

I tend to agree but I think it doesn't matter anyway as he wants to play at a higher level. I suspect the only way he was staying was if we got promoted.

Do you think another club will think he’s worth £25k a week?
We’ll have to wait and see for when COH is in court and his salary disclosed… 😂

Joking aside, MR is working to a budget and without knowing our plans and the targets we’re pursuing, it’s an academic conversation.

It’s telling that the club haven’t given up on him re-signing a contract because they think a) it’s fair and b) he may not have as many options as previously thought.

Every manager works to a budget but King does decide what to do within that budget. It’s not down to Robins to decide.

Fair play to them if so but also says a lot about Doug in a way for me. Their best player is out of contract, they recognise he's a difference maker in their squad and offer him money accordingly

We, have offered Callum 18k a week when Simms and Wright are on 25. And wont go higher, and wonder why he then leaves.

No this isnt part of my 'vendetta' against Doug, its shows that even fucking Preston North End pay their best players accordingly, we dont/wont, and wonder why they never even entertain signing
Torn on this one.

we have to run club sustainability- that’s more important than short term gain (quick promotion with zero foundation)

issue with this approach is situations like this where for let’s say 2,3,4,5k more we could get player over the line, but it’s breaks structure etc - frustrating for us, but think sensible in long term.

Plus I also want players buying into us - we will have offfered him decent wedge - are we more likely to get promoted than Preston in next couple of years - hope so. surely that should excite.

given what we’ve all been through last 10 years at city - sustainable well run club is biggest priority over everything.

How are we sustainable? In our last accounts we lost £7 million operationally?

It’s not though is it? Besides, if we offer 25k and a Prem team does, he isn’t staying here. That’s a relatively cheap punt for a Prem team too.

Splitting hairs and they don’t agree he’s worth £25k a week or they would have sanctioned that deal.

COH between Dec-Feb was great. A real game changer and afterwards, not so much. This doesn’t apply just to COH, but he’s a player that we could’ve done with dragging us through games with league leading performances and he didn’t.

None of this is splitting hares

The club isn’t sustainable financially. That’s the Sisu model and it doesn’t work. So let’s forget that nonsense.

We do not adopt the Brentford model. If the manager wanted a player - say O Hare - he’d be allowed to offer what he wanted. The Brentford owner ploughed millions into the club and used profit on transfers to attract players on league busting wages. They had a wage bill approaching £50 million when promoted.

The notion we are like Brighton is for the birds. Their owner has put £400 million into them.

Budget is not the issue as king has a say in who to buy. Clubs who need the likes of godden and Tavares are not planning on promotion

Given that Browne has spent the last decade in Preston I think both Stoke and Coventry represent significant upgrades.
Of all the away games we've been two my lad has only ever commented on two places we've been, he described both as "awful": Blackpool and Preston.

A club with more ability to pay than us will certainly find it easier to come to that conclusion

How do you define having the ability to pay?

I heard Doug will not break the the higher payrate £25k PW for anyone.

I’m not sure it’s a concept that needs a precise definition - in crude terms, the more money a team has available to it for transfers and salary, and the smaller its other immediate obligations, the greater their ability to pay.

There are only 2 sustainable models in the Championship. Buy, develop and sell players for profits greater than the operating losses … or get promoted and don’t overspend when you go up. You then have the income plus parachute payments to fund a number of seasons in the Championship.

We appear to be pursuing option 1 with a view to achieving option 2.

It's also interesting logic. If Chelsea were willing to pay Kasey Palmer more in the 2010s than whoever O'Hare goes to is willing to pay him in 2024, does that mean Palmer was miles better as a player?

I guess we'll have to hope O'Hare ends up in court one day so we can finally decide who is better.

I believe there are court records which clearly show Kasey Palmer is one of the greatest players in modern football history.
Not that I wish to cast aspersions on this particular court but Judge Viveash also found in favour of Jay Dasilva and Brad Collins.

25 k a week for a Championship club is far too much too pay a player.Reading about 3 seasons ago had 10 players on £1 million a year each, no wonder they are fucked.
No team is going to get promoted from this division without paying players those kind of sums. If King isn’t prepared to do so, he’d have been better off buying a L1 or L2 team.

O’Hare isn’t signing. It’s cash based. I don’t blame him and we have to move on. In fairness we’re only looking to plug a gap of 10 decent games in 2 years so it’s not a problem. Browne is a huge miss in the likely event that Sheaf moves on. He would have been a serious acquisition and proven.

COH isn’t on the same level as Wright or Simms and I don’t think he’s worth £25k per week.

It’s best to avoid overpaying players - stick to your evaluation of a player and move on if they don’t sign.
That's not how things work financially.
We're paying Sims £25k a week AND we paid a significant fee to Everton for him.
So the cost spread over a 4 year deal equates to around £45k a week. Wright's deal is around £55k weeks. (Roughly)

O'hare is available on a free, so if we paid him £25k a week it's not bad value compared to Simms and Wright.
If we keep O'hare for 2 years and then sell him for £4 million we will actually make money on the deal.

So for fuck sake, pay him the money!!!

Taking money out of equation for a minute, for me it boils down to do we see O Hare as that instrumental in the team that he is worthy of matching the top earners of the club.

For me it’s difficult, we know when he’s on top form he’s one of the best in the division (his display against Leicester for example) but is he consistent in that level enough. I mean that pre and post injuries. If he was I’m certain the club would be willing to match his wages with the top earners but then he would have probably already announced he was moving to the prem by now if he was that good.

You look at some of the top players in the champ, Summerville, kdh, gnonto, Armstrong, Sara, etc it wouldn’t even be a hesitation to give them the best deal you could. Yet I hesitate when it comes to O hare.

Will it be a blow to lose him yes for sure, do I think we could get better for matching the pay of top earners…. yes I do.

How do you know it's about money for O'Hare rather than he wants to play at a higher level and feels he isn't going to achieve that here?
