@Saddlebrains is correct when he says we do need some experience too though

I like the signing though as back up/squad filler

It’s the first signing of the summer so I’m not concerned by the lack of experience so far. This signing is strikes me as a development piece, he’s versatile and good raw attributes. With Sakamoto, EMC and Wright filling the wide areas, it’s an area where can afford to pick up a player with the next few seasons in mind.

Completely agree, succession planning is important

we need leaders on the pitch. About three of them - Sheaf assuming he stays is one but not sure about our central defenders. No Kyle McF yet. Leaders tend to be experienced but have to have a close relationship with the manager.
Get Alan Browne and Paddy McNair in.
We need CB's if Binks doesn't join full time. Only leaves us with Thomas, Kitching & Lati

Although I doubt we can, I hope we can offload Lati. I previously thought he was good as a utility player but just don't think he's good enough anymore

What the fucks an ESC slot?
Special dispensation given to a foreign player who wouldn’t qualify for a work permit. Championship clubs get 4.

Last season we used two on Torp and Sakamoto. Saka played enough games so we got his ESC slot back to use this season. Torp did not so he still counts as ESC for this season.

MVE and Wright would have qualified for normal work permits due to international caps and league they were signed from.

People getting upset about this signing are like the people who slated Badlan for signing Bouwe Bosma.

Glad we signed this lad, have never seen him play other than the youtube clips which are all best bits of his campaign over in Australia.
While he looks an exciting player, direct and fearless in the youtube clips, the majority of oppositions looked like they were about the national league north level.

This isn't a knock on the lad, he can only play against who is in front of him, however there no doubt be a lengthy period of settling. He won't be tactically ready for the Championship when you consider the level this league is at. He will struggle with the the physicality and speed of the championship, the blistering runs at defenders just won't be successful to begin with because he will not be used to the lack of time on the ball in this division. I think we saw this with Haji Wright early on, he took a while to adjust to the physicality, speed and riggers the Championship requires from an individual.

Do i think he can be a success? i think our scouting network is incredible, so i have no doubts he will eventually be a success at the club. It is a relatively low risk signing, he won't have cost anywhere near £1 million and with the track record our coaching staff and scouts have, i feel we can see Raphael starting to show his ability towards to latter stages of the season.

He's obviously shown something that has brought him to the attention of several European clubs. Great news if we're beating the likes of Rangers to his signature, if true.
