Well, point 2 is only predicated on who the club wants to sell him to. If we reject offers from Championship clubs, Sheaf doesn't move to the club, only when he is unattached does he have that choice.

This has been explained several times before but in the event that Gyokeres is sold in a part exchange deal we still get money. Any players included are valued as part of the deal and we still get our percentage.

Like it or not, now is the right time to sell Sheaf.

We don’t know what’s happening but if Sheaf has told the club he wants to go or, at least, won’t sign a new contract, then absolutely the clock is ticking.

We can’t afford for him to wind his contract now, so it’s £12 million now. £8 million in January. Free in 2 years.

Sheaf holds all the cards. So let’s hope he will sign a new deal

Your argument about Sheaf's value automatically decreasing in a year's time isn't actually backed up previous experience. Plenty of posters on here were urging the club to sell Hamer and/ or Gyokeres a season before we did using the same argument, that it was too great a risk to wait a year and risk them going into the last year of their contract, with their values then decreasing. If we had sold at that time we would have been looking at £8m for Gyokores and £5m for Hamer, well below what we ended up getting for them!

If we are offered £12m for Sheaf the club need to balance whether he can improve still further (as Hamer and Gyokores did) and his value increase, or whether he is at his peak now and his value is therefore as high as it can go. There's also the uncertanty over whether Gyokores will provide us a windfall and move on, which could also lessen the need for us to sell Sheaf. I'm happy to trust MR's judgement on this, whatever it might be.

If someone owes you money and they give you something in exchange for that debt then you have bought that item for that value.

I have been a city fan for over 40 years and whilst it is still early days I don’t recall a better owner at the club. I know some might say John Poynton but frankly I was a teenager and only interested in the team not the ownership.

King could have banked almost all of the Vik and Hamer money and totally derisked his ownership. He didn’t. He invested it back in the club.

The club was a shambles off the field and in trying to modernise it quickly he has made some errors, listened, and made revisions. I’m ok with that.

Time will be the judge of King but he’s got off to a better start than I could have ever hoped for.

I think the club will have a decent sized kitty for transfers this summer, i also think the club will love the fact fans etc will believe we have nothing to spend. Why would any club want their fan base to believe we have a huge kitty, Man United forever get rinsed by other clubs because of this.

we're deffo in a better place than we were even a year ago. and there's a very real buzz about the place.

What do you mean exactly when you refer to this ‘acid test?’

The club is increasing its spending on infrastructure and is a loss making enterprise, we need to be realistic on what we can spend. Last season was a real treat because of the windfall we had from Hamer and Vik.

Naturally, we’re still reliant on bringing in transfer revenue to fund future transfers. A potentially £8-12m for sell on fees is equivalent to selling a star player in previous years.

As for Sheaf, he’s an our best player and at the peak of his value. It would pain me if we sold him but if it meant we got to spend 70-90% of the fee, I would accept that as the cost of doing business.

You see the attitude of ‘Doug needs to put his hand in his pocket’ in relation to transfers. Which, if you’re losing £4-7m (or more) a season, that’s the equivalent of a record signing (Haji Wright) just to keep the lights on.

As you say, us fans are doing our bit and the clubs messaging is optimistic too and no scaling back/tempering expectations yet.

When you say it like that it does make sense and have merit.

Season tickets, the kit, the exec boxes all last season were a disaster but I’ll give him benefit of the doubt as was first season doing it, if it’s the same this season I won’t.

Even the sponsor was a fiasco and by the looks of it we could be finding it the same this season if Monzo have pulled out or not.

I really admire the confidence in which you post this.

At our level, it’s necessary to sell players and use the funds to improve the team. So I don’t disagree that selling Sheaf could leave us better off if we bring several quality players.

Obviously gutted to have lost Hamer and Gyokeres, but we’re better off now that we’ve sold them.

But let’s not kid ourselves the alternatives were Sisu for longer or possibly William Storey ( ).

We didn’t have an emirate billionaire desperate to buy us, in fact any interest in buying us for the previous near decade was via Gary Hoffman trying to rescue us from Sisu.

sitting on the fence with King is like replacing Godden with Jota but not enjoying it because you would have preferred Harry Kane.

If we get back to the Premier League I doubt King will be the long term owner but for now for the first time in 20 years we are actually trying to do it.

The Doug takeover seemed a bit too good to be true so I get the initial stand-offishness. However he’s done a tremendous job since he took over and I’m not sure why anyone is still questioning him.

Is he not exactly what you want in an owner? Runs the club sensibly (albeit we are still loss making), backs the manager, engaged with the fan base and listens to feedback, and attends nearly every match.
